On Sunday the 13th there will be a mod of the month open house in Glenbrook Valley at 8015 Arletta.

The motm choice is a roman brick mod with vaulted ceilings in all the rooms. It features formals with clerestory windows, large kitchen, den with fireplace, cedar closets, vintage tile baths, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths in the main house and a half bath in the garage. It is located on a great cul de sac street.

Houston Mod

At the same time a number of other homes will be held open, so it creates an opportunity to see a lot of different Glenbrook Valley home styles. There is a large Tudor style home backing up to Sims at 7707 Lakewind that was designed by Ben F. Greenwood that may be open, I still need to confirm with the agent. It is priced at $325,000. Others that will be open in addition to the Arletta house include:

7831 Santa Elena at Broadway - A one-owner very original colonial with extensive poured terrazzo flooring, formals, den, triple masters, and a detached 2 room home office suite, second mini-kitchen off the breakfast room. $239,900

8119 Stony Dell - boom a rang shaped roman brick ranch on a very hilly lot. Formals, den, open kitchen concept, 2 full baths. $199,900

8206 Glencrest - corner lot ranch over 3,300 sq ft per appraisal. Formals, den, bonus room, 3 br/2.5 baths. $245,000

8211 Colgate - Clean lined mid-century ranch with 20' square main living area, beautiful sunroom, 3 br/3 ba. $239,900

If you like older houses and neighborhoods, this is a good chance to get out and tour this area.

It is not a "mod" house but the Ben F. Greenwood designed Tudor (He designed that mod church right on Broadway at Sims I think), is also going to be open as well. It is an interesting house too, on a nice lot backing up to Sims Bayou.

7707 Lakewind

That will make a total of 6 houses open next Sunday in the area.

That house on Arletta sure is cool-looking--should attract a good crowd!

The people that own it originally bought it with the intent of tearing it down. So I would really like to see it get sold. The photos really don't capture it, it is a lot better in person. The owners have recently been using it for storage, so I am still pressing them to get it cleaned out before this weekend, otherwise I may be slingin' stuff into the garage myself later this week.

The Mod of the Month on Arletta is at the end of a culdesac on a secluded street. It's a desirable location in Glenbrook Valley that's booming with new modsters. The Rancho Deluxe on Stony Dell has gigantic rooms, and is on a street with topography that is rare in Houston. It's similiar to the lots in Idylwood that overlook the golfcourse. If you go inside the Stony Dell house do yourself a favor and walk around the yard. From the backyard there's a view of the back of one of Glenbrooks finest mods, one of the Glenview Parade of Homes House from 1954, and also next door to the "Multi Levels of Living House".

Don't miss this chance to see several different styles of homes in Glenbrook. The residents of the hood will be out in force. Several of us have set up private tours of our homes at the request of other HAIFERS. You might see us walking around with Peach Mimosa's !

Looking forward to seeing you all !

We might even share mimosas with HAIFers. Is there some kind of HAIF gang sign so we can identify each other.

It all sounds great!!! I will be there! I may have missed it, but what are the hours on this special event? With so much to see I hope we have all afternoon! Fortified on Mimosas, this should really be a treat. The weather is going to be dry and clear too. Thanks...see you tomorrow.

2 to 4, but they usually go on a little longer.

It sounds like there will be a lot to see at this event. I understand some vintage cars owned by neighbors will be displayed at some of the houses. It is nice to see these events are encouraging neighborhoods to become more involved in showing their communities in a favorable way. At the last Mod of the Month in Sharpstown, neighbors were concerned that some people had already placed their heavy trash at the curb for pickup the next day. Neighbors got together and moved all the items so the street would look its best for the visitors.

A lot of people came out, seems there is always something to see in Glenbrook, like the various flag displays.

In response to the comment by Matt, on the Swamplot link: This isn't just "any" Houston neighborhood. Those crumbling driveway retaining-wall bricks & rotting woodwork make me sad. Glad to hear there was such a good turnout.

That was fun! I just moved to Houston from the San Francisco Bay area. I've been lurking on this site for months now. The trip to Glenbrook Valley was a thrill. The houses were really amazing and it was great to see the wide variety of possibilities in a mod neighborhood. Of course, the showstopper was the redone mod. It was just impeccable. My favorite rooms I have to say were the bathrooms. the tile and fixtures were pristine. And the kitchen mixed some new and some old perfectly for great aesthetic and funtionality.

While I didn't see anyone with peach mimosas, I was welcomed by many of the GV neighborhood association in many of these houses. Thanks for the ride folks! Hope to do it again soon.

Welcome Sarvey...we can never have too many mod lovers  on HAIF. The Mod topic was what enticed me to join.

I got a couple of pics but only of the 1959 Turquoise Cadillac in my driveway. I'm very camera challenged...but as soon as I get the disposable camera developed I'll post the Caddy.

I had a blast at this event.....over 25 Glenbrook residents met at Stolitx's for brunch prior to the open houses. Stolitx and the owners of the Precipitron House on Glenview definitely overserved us their refreshing Peach and Orange Mimosa's. A couple of fellow HAIFer's asked for a tour of my house during the event. About 15 toured my house and caught a glimpse of the Kit Kat Lounge upstairs. Based on their feedback..the day in Glenbrook appears to have been enjoyed by all. Next time I'll serve refreshments for HAIFer's in the Kit Kat Lounge !
