editor
It's been a rough Winter for United Airlines. It's cancelled over 1,200 flights at O'Hare Airport alone in December. The airline blames the weather, but the pilots union says it's understaffing (and points out that the other airlines aren't having similar problems). United ranked 20th in on-time performance for the big 20 airlines in December. Anyway, just when United passengers thought things couldn't get any worse, this happened. On December 14th a United flight from Shanghai to O'Hare was given priority clearance to land because of smoke. These are the pictures after the evacuation. Since they're international arrivals they can't just be let into the terminal, so the passengers and crew had to wait on the tarmac for quite a while until things could get sorted out. Everyone had to jump down those inflatable escape chutes. I hear they cost $40,000 each to pre-pack or replace after they've been deployed. Ouch. Not my pictures. They were passed on to me by the person who took them.
