dfwcre8tive
Here's an article that describes some of the lights going up on buildings in Downtown Dallas: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...ne.2f6447f.html Skyline lights drawing attention to new downtown Dallas buildings 09:27 PM CST on Sunday, November 11, 2007 By HOLLY YAN / The Dallas Morning News hyan@dallasnews.com It looks like a colossal video screen or some kind of futuristic entryway. [Click image for a larger version] GUY REYNOLDS/DMN GUY REYNOLDS/DMN One Arts Plaza's signature square lighting stands out on the Dallas skyline at night. The giant, white lighted squares on two sides of One Arts Plaza – Dallas' latest pieces of skyline bling – have illuminated the curiosity of people near downtown at night. Downtown resident Philip Pleasant said the building's giant squares are baffling. "Most people, when they first see it, they think it's like a TV screen," he said. "But then when you don't see anything on it ... it just looks weird." ... "I think it's a case of developers drawing attention to their buildings and competing with other buildings that have lights," said Willis Winters, the city's assistant director for park planning, design and construction. ... The Mercantile spire is actually one of the most practical pieces of downtown bling. In the coming months, its new LED tubing will indicate what the weather is like based on the colors of the spire. "The top needle portion of the spire is a series of rings of white light that will blink upward for rising temperatures and downward for falling temperatures," Mr. Hughes said. "Directly below the needle is a star. That will be green for fair weather and orange for inclement weather." ... Azure, a high-rise condominium complex scheduled to open to its first residents on Nov. 27, will have a lighted blue panel at the top, a company spokeswoman said. And the new Hunt building on the north side of downtown is expected to cast a multicolored light display visible to motorists on Woodall Rodgers. C2H
I already expressed my take on this in this thread http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...showtopic=12346. I think the lighting thing is starting to look overdone in Dallas now. I hope this topic doesn't get closed for no reason like mine did.
Metro Matt
No one, nor this article has ever mentioned the Trammel Crow building, which has recently illuminated its pyramid like spire with green & white lights visible in the far right side of the picture. TxDave
Most of the new buildings downtown seem to be incorporating some type of decorative lighting - the Hunt building is the extreme, but One Arts Plaza's square, the Cirque's blue balconies, and Azure's blue center spire add additional interest to the night skyline - not to mention the restored Merc spire and Republic Tower "rocket". If done well, this lighting could become a signature for Dallas

FindCRE
Downtown Dallas has just expanded tremendously the last few years. You cant even believe how much its grown. Hopefully loans will still clear, so that skyline will continue to grow.
totheskies
I love it. And yet Houston has a GREAT lighting scheme, and won't use it b/c they're trying to conserve energy
