Subdude Posted July 20, 2007 Share Posted July 20, 2007 Houston-area green building movement blossomsMore developers and architects are getting into itBy NANCY SARNOFFCopyright 2007 Houston Chronicle More property developers, brokers and architects are participating in the nationwide green building movement.In fact, the Greater Houston Partnership on Thursday held the first of two symposiums scheduled for this year on green building, a growing environmental push involving the development of energy-efficient buildings.The partnership's president and chief executive, Jeff Moseley, and Mayor Bill White addressed several hundred business leaders, architects and developers at downtown's Hilton Americas-Houston hotel, followed by a panel discussion with the CEO of Houston-based Sysco and a real estate director from Shell Oil Co., which are building green campuses.The event focused on the issues of developing so-called "sustainable" buildings, which aim to lower energy costs, water usage and improve indoor air quality."Houston has not been known as the hotbed for sustainable activity in the past. ...
