MAYOR'S GOALS

Here are excerpts from Mayor Tom Leppert's inauguration speech Monday:

CRIME

"I am committed to doing what it takes to make Dallas safe again – without raising your taxes."

EDUCATION

"Our children deserve schools that will empower them to achieve their dreams."

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

"Our competition is no longer Plano, Fort Worth or even Houston. It's New York, Chicago and LA ... and London, Shanghai and Dubai."

TRINITY RIVER PROJECT

"We need to get it completed in a style that will make every one of us proud."

DOWNTOWN

The center city "will further come alive as we encourage mixed-use development, shopping, entertainment, restaurants, sports venues and, very importantly, put in place a convention center hotel."

THE ENVIRONMENT

Pursue cleaner air, lead the nation in green building standards and secure water resources. "Without those basics, we have nothing."

What the hell, Dallas' competition is now London, Shanghai, and Dubai? Yeah right. Hopefully his guy can help Dallas out more than Mayor Miller did though.

Woah there buddy! Laura was great! It was the city coucil, silly city managers, and bumbling ex police cheif that made her job difficult. Every time she tried to propose something former councilman Alcorn would claim that she forgot south Dallas and would call her a racist, then the rest of the south Dallas coucilmembers would join in. She didn't drop the ball with the Cowboy's stadium, Dallas County did. Dallas County has been notorious for dropping balls on serious items. For instance, Texas Motor Speedway was going to be constructed along 1-20 and Lancaster Rd, but the county wanted to play hard ball instead. Same thing with the stadium. They finally got their act together on the logistics hub that's going in the s.w. Dallas county. It's reportedly going to be the largest industrial development in the country. It inludes enlarging the Lancaster Municiple Airport and connecting to the U.P. railroad intermodal along Belt Line and 1-45. I'm curious to see how Leppart is going to do the job. Laura was definately a liberal who cared about the people of Dallas (even though some will argue) and Leppert is a conservative. Dallas has been a conservative city (for Texas) for many, many years. That's why Ms. Connally turned to JFK and said (See Jack, Dallas does love you!). JKF thought Dallas was a conservative town. The ironic thing is that Nelly Connally said that within a minute of him being assassinated.
