Biloxi-Post Katrina

Recommended Posts

We are planning a few stops on the way back to Houston from the kids camp. We want to stop at the Beau Rivage for a day or two. I noticed on the net that so many of the historical places are now gone. Has anyone been there lately? ANything restored?

Oh yes, there is tons of redevelopment. My firm even merged with a local firm in Biloxi to work on casinos. They are actually breaking revenue records. I get a publication called Mississippi Gaming News, www.msgamingnews.com, they have all the info about the casinos, etc.

I'm finding that out, I will let you know.

The stop was a total bust and we checked out after one night.

We arrived and checked in, the hotel looked like Bellagio light. I was pleased. We get our key and go to the room, insert card......and walla........someone was already occupying the room and had been smoking up a cigar storm in a no-smoking room.

Ok so we get the room situation fixed and we get the kid in a suit and we were off to the pool. After ten hours of driving and the last being the most boring stretch of highway in the southeast,I-65, we were looking forward to Ritas by the pool and watching the kids swim.It was 6pm. Pool closed. They were setting up for "The Club by the Pool."

Ok...so then we changed and had a very nice Sushi dinner and Martinis. The boys and I went to the room and went to bed. Hubby gambled for a few hours.

So, we get up at the crack of dawn, as normal, and head to the pool for coffee and watch the kid swim. Its 7am. Pool Closed. It opens at 8am.........

So we head off to the beach.................Biloxi makes Galveston look like Hawaii. SO after passing several bums sleeping under the boardwalk, we found a ton of hermit crabs and let the boys build a Hermittage for them. We didn't allow him to go in the water. It was full of trash and beer cans. Pretty much when I saw one take a stick and start poking at a "jelly fish" it was all over. It was a

prophylactic jellyfish............

So we checked out of our 275 dollar a night room and boogied on home.

Vegas is more our speed, open always and clean. But we didn't want to go out of our way east to Alabama for the beaches still under repair............so there you go.

oh, then we got home to find Katrina Collie had broken off his canine tooth in a panic attack that we left him and it now has to be pulled............

Katie, THAT is a friggin' MOVIE ! I am tellin' ya. We can sell that script easy. Sorry you had a bad experience. I think everyone is still shellshocked around there. I have yet to go back to see it for myself, don't know that I want to now. It sounds as if I would be VERY disappointed.

A friend of mine lives in Biloxi and had his house destroyed. Needless to say, he was very upset with all the p.r. that New Orleans received and not a whole lot said about Biloxi. He sent me this website with pictures of the devastation that area suffered. It shows what happened to some of the historical structures there.
