GREASER
So my new wife will soon be able to work (waiting on legal status). Her degree and profession (in Sweden) was a archeologist/museum curator. Does anyone know of some niche markets that the degree could be used in? (other than the museum...seems they just want volunteers)...Any advise is appreciated, she just doesnt want to be a school teacher.
musicman
does she WANT to be a museum curator?
GREASER
She would love to work there...volunteering now...but its kinda different going from a hands on person (interactive sites with kids/adults), to just standing there. Funny with the Roman exhibit now, she has actually excavated Roman soldiers/battlefields, but they didnt care to much for her additional imput. woolie
bttThere is some archaeological work ongoing in Brazoria county. You should contact the Brazoria County Historical Museum. My dad was at one time (early 80s) the curator (he's an anthropologist.)
LarryDallas
I was on the Levi Jordan dig in 2002 when they got started and they needed slaves....um..volunteers to find things and then not touch anything but only call in the find to a person on staff that could doccument it.The contact person is Professor Ken Brown of U of H; he is the director of the whole project. Since your wife has a background in this maybe she can go to work with his people.http://www.publicarchaeology.org/webarchae...ml/kennethl.htmhttp://www.anthropology.uh.edu/faculty.htm

I always told myself that if other things didnt work out I would do that. I love excavating old ruins and the stories that go with them. Solving the mystery is the best part. I would go to Rice University and bang on as many doors as possible for starters!
GREASER
Ya she digs (ha) the job...but she realizes there is not much demand here. She was actually wandering about other professions that are out of the norm that use archaeologist. Like site prep work for foundations or maybe inspections for digging? Something along those lines. brucesw
She might contact the Texas Historical Commission. They should know of or be involved in just about anything concerning archeological projects going on in the state.
