No need to apologize. I have no clue where it is either! I just figured it was east of downtown in 2nd ward somewhere.

This tunnel is on the East Side of down town next to Prairie and Texas Ave. It runs between Prairie and Congress. It was built for the old Houston electric railroad so that they could get under the main railroad tracks. Everything is still there just back filled in with the tracks still running over head.

Since it is so narrow the city decided to replace it by building and expanding Dowling road and connecting it to Navigation road on the other side. If the Houston Metro wanted to they could most likely reopen this underpass and use it for the new Navigation road metro rail line.

there is a non-profit that is turning this into income based housing for artists. as a local photographer, i am really salivating at the thought of having affordable housing and studio space. i think they will have the unveiling later this year or early 2006.
