  1. Nov. 24, 2004, 4:10AM Creative juices flow with Brays Bayou design Group planning to beautify banks with park, bridges By HEATHER SAUCIER Chronicle Correspondent RESOURCES Preliminary sketches for the proposed project show:
  2. Lockmat discovered this development from a link that TheNiche posted in the "Dome over Houston" thread. Europa at Houstonian Lakes, a 500-acre master planned community. LandQuest development group (or L Star, they've recently partnered with Starwood development) is the developer. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm99/YahTrickYah57/22.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm99/YahTrickYah57/23.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm99/YahTrickYah57/25.jpg http://www.enzoinv.com/brochure/brochure.htm (pg. 20-23) Edit: TMC BioPort:
  3. Here is something recently mentioned on Swamplot. Does anyone know anything about this project? http://www.kirksey.com/project/buffalo_lakes_master_plan Page 10 of this PDF http://www.ridemetro.org/ProjectsPrograms/PDFs/90A_Media_Briefing_020711.pdf shows rail going through the project.
  4. Greetings. Wondering if anyone is aware of a link to an aerial of the old South Main Drive In near Stella Link and what is now Willowbend? Or any other old photos of it for that matter. Thanks in advance, Neil
  5. Menninger Clinic At 12301 South Main Street. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2011/03/menninger-clinic-to-break-ground-on.html This may have already been posted but I coudln't find it.
  6. I drove by the other day and thought to myself what could go here instead of a laundry facility? This is located on South Main bordering Stella Link and Willowbend. The property has an interesting parcel shape. Maybe a midrise condominium if the area ever gets denser. I know there are many industrial business parks just a few miles away on Highway 288. Maybe Ace will eventually move out towards a dedicated business park? Ace takes good care of their property. The street signage flower beds are always kept up, and just recently trees were trimmed. Although, that could have been a city thing.
  7. I live in the dreaded Fondren Southwest area.. and have been checking out these streets I pass all the time around there.. a couple of weeks ago.. west on South Willow off S Post Oak.. turned onto this street called Clematis.. it dead ended onto Gasmer and this rather large pond/lake(?) or extremely huge mud puddle goes along Gasmer at Clematis. Wondering if anyone knows what the heck this is? My husband took these.
  8. Can we discuss this small road that forms a loop from Buffalo Speedway to Holmes Road? The road is sandwiched in between the University of Texas controlled 307-acres and the Texas Medical Center controlled 500-acres. When travelling on Holmes Road, the loop road is a short cut to Buffalo Speedway. The loop makes a lot of sense and saves time when driving. All of the land in the immediate area is vacant. Since the Buffalo Speedway Connector is road that is off the beaten path, in the middle of inhabited land, the area is a prime spot for illegal dumping. The illegal dumping is mostly large items such as tires, contractor supplies, and lawn clipping bags. The illegal dumping is so bad the city setup 2 cameras to try and catch the dumpers. Since then, the dumping has gotten better but it is still a problem. It is still unclear if the TMC 500-acre land grab contains this parcel. 6 months ago I noticed some civil work within the Buffalo Speedway Connector land. I assume the construction activity was in preparation of the closing sale of the 500-acres. I think the 500-acres is everything south of Holmes Road on Buffalo Speedway to Airport Blvd. Which, if that's the case, the land is covered under their purchase. My question is, I wonder if TMC has the power to clean this place up. Could the TMC prevent illegal dumping? What would work is if the TMC developed the land in and around the Buffalo Speedway Connector and had grounds-maintenance on a daily basis. I know in some Hines buildings, the Hines Property Management team has a cleaning crew that spans the entire day. Someone is cleaning from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Then the overnight cleaning crew comes in and cleans the individual offices and suites. The TMC Medical Campus is always very clean with great landscaping and flowery medians. I'd hope to see the same here, when the TMC BioPort development gains traction and occupancy. Not much is known about this loop road. I wanted to create a thread for more visibility and information for people. Google Maps lists the road as "Buffalo Speedway" and omits the "Connector" part.

  12. In the early 60's Willow Creek Little League that had been playing behind Red Elementary was given land across South Main from the South Main Drive Inn and Homeco Field was built. Due to the lights from the baseball fields the Little League had to pay to have a large sheet metal wall built to keep the lights from disrupting the movies. Growing up in Willow Bend I remember driving up Willow Bend Blvd and always checking out what movie was playing on the South Main Drive Inn screen.

  18. Found this advertisement in the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated February 8, 1961. Does anyone on HAIF recall this place? It's a niche market, a beauty salon, so maybe nobody is familiar. Maybe someone, out there, has memories of this place! Well known in this area . . . . 19. I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated April 13, 1960 and came across this business advertisement. Does anyone remember this? Looks like it was yet another light-industrial development a long South Main and Willowbend. I believe a restaurant was eventually located here, but I'm not sure of the decade. Maybe the restaurant went in when the warehouses were demolished? Auction Sat. April 16th, 10 A.M. / Sun. April 17th, 10 A.M. 20. Maybe I am posting this in the wrong section, but I live in Meyerland and I have often wondered why we do not have a Super Walmart in the SW Houston/Meyerland area. We have a normal Walmart off of South Post Oak and 610 (which is always REALLY crowded), but not a Super WM. Anyone else think there needs to be one?
  21. Advance Meyerland is the small retail strip center next to the Kroger's on South Post Oak at West Bellfort. Was browsing permits and noticed a proposed building going up here.
  22. Does anyone have experience with the senior living memory care facility? I believe this was once called Autumn Leaves but since changed hands? This memory care residential living could come in handly for me in the next 10 to 20 years. I wonder how this stacks up against other memory care, assisted living, and senior living options around town. Although, with the way things are going, I'm sure most children have their ederly parents live with them to save money. I believe senior care is expensive! Although, professionals might do a better job than the kids playing nursing. Thanks Website: https://www.theheritagetexas.com/senior-living/tx/houston/w-bellfort-ave/
  23. The Westbury Square thread reminded me about this article which I had not exposed to the web. It provides history of the airport from its origins in 1941 to the article date in 1947. As noted in the Westbury Square thread, the airport property is bounded by present-day South Main, Chimney Rock, Hillcroft and West Bellfort. http://houstonfreeways.com/images/sam_hous...ew_complete.jpg
  24. wow!! I found the first located of the WCC! Cool history here. I wonder if anyone on HAIF knows about this place? Who was the architect?
