Figured I'd go ahead and start a new official thread on this. Coming Spring 2014 Midtown Superblock Park http://innerlooped.com/1653/midtown-superblock-first-look/ It's going to have underground parking too! There is a link to the full document on InnerLooped. • Includes a balance of program items that support the overall goals of the Midtown District • Includes over 140 underground parking spaces that support park activities, nearby retail destination and the Main Street rail line • Includes over 7,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space Renderings and info as of 5/2015: http://i.imgur.com/JJVD97D.jpg http://i.imgur.com/HnlSiO5h.jpg

This could be worthy of a new topic, but regardless I found out what the 2nd midrise will be... There's an ugly, overgrown lot at North Braeswood & Main (east side of Main) that I walk by almost daily on my way to the trails - they've been using it as a staging ground for the re-surfacing on Main, and I noticed there was no longer a for sale sign. "AHC South Main LLC" closed on the property on 5/19/16. I couldn't figure out what exactly that was but a managing director for Allen Harrison Co. (AHC) signed one of the documents. I'm not sure if this will be deleted, but I was able to read the article Urbannizer referenced from March without a subscription (just had to put in my email): I kept reading that as 7 stories, but sounds like it will actually be 11 floors total Edit: Sorry, that's just 1 of 2 midrises. The other will be a 5-story complex on 3 acres in the Heights (per the article)

The variance was approved, the Hanover group is building apartments on the sight. The city was concerned that the variance would interfere with the Fulton to downtown crossings, apparently Hanover assuaged those concerned. The City did push back so apparently the development will continue. There are also plans to build a brewery on Burnett, and land was cleared in the last two weeks on Burnett to build a large set of Condominiums or townhomes. Unless there is a significant economic downturn, next year will be a big one for the Hardy Yards. The title 3 Apartment complex should be complete in 2019 as well.

I know that there was a thread that discussed the fate of the Park Memorial Condos on Memorial Drive at Detering, but I suppose it was a subtopic of another discussion. As many know, this complex made the rather rare decision to put all 108 units up for sale en masse. This apparently infuriated at least one resident, who retaliated by notifying the City of an engineers report that there were structural problems in the complex. The City responded by condemning the property based on the report, and ordered everyone out. The owners sued the City, and the court found that the City could not condemn a structure without getting their own reports. The owners finally found a buyer who plans to raze the buildings and put up 372 apartments. The demolition began immediately, and is nearly complete already. I used to own one of these units. As I drove down Memorial this evening, I saw the demo, and stopped to get a few pics. Here is one of my former condo... This is from the back entrance. In the background, you can see Memorial. Previously, these condos soared as high as 4 storeys, 3 floors of living area over a parking area. You couldn't see Memorial from here. My unit was that slab directly to the right of the excavator. Kinda sad to see my old home disappear.
