  1. I am sure this is somewhere on the going up, but I couldn't find it. Does anyone know how tall the new complex will be? I would guess Avalon Diner will be next to go.
  2. Noticed this on Loopnet. 2828 Southwest Fwy - Four Points by Sheraton Greenway Plaza https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2828-Southwest-Fwy-Houston-TX/23923870/ The Property is situated on 2.38 acres (103,569 square feet) of land, presenting a rare opportunity for a developer with flexibility to reposition or redevelop the Property into a different asset type. Alternatively, a new hotel investor will have the opportunity to realize the significant upside of acquiring and renovating an asset in a highly desirable submarket, substantially below replacement cost.
  3. The site was expected to be the last phase of Kirby Commmons Townhomes, Pelican Builders has revised plans for a 7-story condo building. http://www.westmorehouston.com/
  4. I was reading the newspaper The Houston Post dated October 30, 1921 and noticed a public school on Westheimer Road called John Smith School. I then found a library item that has more details. 2503 Westheimer Houston Forum of Civics of River Oaks Garden Club. Built about 1880 until 1920 The John Smith School. Restored in 1927 by Will Hogg. A memorial since 1942 to Will and Mike Hogg. Gardens added in 1955. Open to public. I just looked on Google satellite. The River Oaks Garden Club Forum is still there! Do they own that whole parcel? Can't even imagine how much that RO parcel is worth!! I bet Hines or Hanover could build something tall here
  5. This??? http://www.thorequities.com/portfolio/the-kirby-collection/ Latest renderings and info as of 9/2015: http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2015/09/massive-kirby-mixed-use-project-to-break-ground.html
  6. Fresh on Loopnet. Site sits on 0.92 acres. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/3334-Richmond-Ave-Houston-TX/24287602/
  7. Midway is planning on redeveloping the current Levey Park on Richmond between Eastside and Wakeforest into a mini CityCentre-type development that will include a 16-story office, lofts, retail and a park. i've heard additional development is possible as well. renderings should be floating around soon i'm sure.
  8. I was browsing the The Southwest Citizen magazine dated December 3, 1964 and noticed this business listing for Chuc Wagun Hamburgers located at 5210 Kirby Dr. Anyone ever eat here? Why did the Chuc Wagun brand go out of business? Merged with a bigger company?
  9. Went to Little Pappasitos of Richmond and Kirby and they said they lost there lease. Walked to Office Depot and Supercuts they said the whole lot will be torn down! They just have till the end of the year. Urbannizer or Subdue have you heard anything?
  10. I thought there was already a thread about this, but I can't find one, so I will include all the information I know. At 2715 Bissonnet in West U, diagonally across the street from the old Coca Cola bottling plant, there is a two-story shopping center from the 1960s or 1970s, which is being torn down for redevelopment. Plans for redevelopment have been going on for a while; this flyer was posted in 2017 when a company called Edge was marketing it. More recently, BPI realty has been marketing it, with the following rendering common to both flyers, showing a one-story strip mall: And here is the site plan: In November, the city of West University Place had a hearing to replat it. The existing development is called The Upper Kirby Building, not to be confused with a building of the same name on Richmond, and other places have referred to it as the Shoppes at Upper Kirby and the Shops at West U, so I am uncertain of what the name of the final development will be. Swamplot reported on the imminent demolition of the existing buildings, including this pre-demolition photo: Here are some photos I took of it today during demolition:
  11. A multifamily building is proposed for the River Oaks area at the corner of Mimosa & Revere. SubdivisionPlatPDF_1031-14.pdf
  12. Jalapenos, the colorful restaurant near the corner of Kirby and Westheimer, will close its doors a the end of the year to make way for a huge new development on the land where the eatery has stood for 18 years. Recent Company News
  13. This boutique office building is where DC Partners is located. Here's the Loopnet listing:
  14. Does anyone remember the Winterland Ice Skating Rink located at 2400 Norfolk? This is right off of Kirby kind of behind the Ninfas. The owners name was Charles or Chuck Rolland, I believe. If anyone has a pic to share that would be cool. I would really like to see what the place looked like. I am doing some research on the early 60s in Houston and that place plays a big part. Thanks a bunch!
  15. Proposed multifamily project in River Oaks on Mimosa Street, near Spann Street. SubdivisionPlatPDF_MimosaTerrace.pdf
  16. Here's the history of the iconic River Oaks Bank Building located at 2001 Kirby Drive in Houston. It was built in 1970 and the architects were Wilson, Morris, Crain and Anderson. Here's the Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2001-Kirby-Dr-Houston-TX/18010069/
  17. Noticed this on Loopnet just now. I know there is activity down the street at 3314 Branard St. It's under contract so we will see what happens here. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/3262-Branard-St-Houston-TX/25580094/ JNK Property Group is pleased to present Tarleton Square Apartments. A well maintained, garden style apartment community located in the highly desirable Upper Kirby in Houston, TX. Built in 1962, this 18 unit community consists of three buildings with a mix of 10 one bedroom units, 4 two bedroom one bathroom units & 4 two bedroom two bathroom units. The property is 100% occupied and significant upside in increasing upcoming rents.
  18. yesterday, i noticed that they finally tore down the former pub/club on the corner there -- the mismatched one that looked as if it were from a grimm's tale. i never took a photo of it because it irritated me so. its been empty for a good while and housing scary folks & lots of neighborhood mischief. does anyone know what's "going up" there? i can only assume something is since it has been empty for so long. does anyone remember that place for some reason i think it had pig in the name --or maybe it's that nursery tale it reminds me of.
  19. I saw online a few months back that this was closing. I spy a tower crane, I wonder what it's building? I had it in my mind it might be the Solvay Hotel. It's not, it's Amazing Spaces.
  20. Demolition permit issued. Small office for a prefab concrete company?
  21. According to my salesman, Momentum Audi is going to be building a new 7-story dealership between Farnham and S Shepherd at 59 (the area behind 59 Diner) -- construction to start sometime in 2012 with completion in 2013
  22. There was discussion about this 1.87-acres of land in the Hanover River Oaks thread. Fresh on Loopnet, listing created yesterday. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2801-Kirby-Dr-Houston-TX/21177891/
  23. Noticed a plan review permit this morning. Might be a very small apartment building. Definitely will take out some old 1960 buildings. We will see if this turns into anything big.
