(curtain wall) Photographer: Tim Griffiths Floor Plan The design of the ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company Technical Training Center, completed in May 2004, blends the old with the new. The two-story 98,000-sf facility responds to the materials and horizontality of the existing Buffalo Speedway campus, but applies a new combination of forms and material relationships. The new building's design becomes more creative as it moves away from its junction with the 1950s-era McKie and Kamrath building, notable for its strips of brick, glass and shading devices. The new facility's facade steps toward the street in a series of layers composed of Central Texas limestone, glass, and brick. Another material - a canted curved metal panel - is introduced to represent ExxonMobil's innovative technology. The facility houses a grand lobby and gallery, classrooms of various sizes, two large areas for breakout sessions, as well as support and office spaces for training staff. The terrazzo floor in the lobby is an abstract pattern representing fluvial systems studied within the training center. Classrooms are equipped for the latest media, and a visualization classroom takes advantage of a large projection screen that can be configured in several ways, including as four sides of a cube. Parking for approximately 458 cars is provided adjacent to the training facility. The project distinguishes itself by covering a wide range of subject matter, from the tactile nature of oil field hardware and geologic material to the virtual world of computer models and simulations. All elements combine to create a training tool which will serve thousands of students annually from around the world who are involved in ExxonMobil's exploration, development, production, and research enterprises. --Courtney Mahaffey Link

Midway is planning on redeveloping the current Levey Park on Richmond between Eastside and Wakeforest into a mini CityCentre-type development that will include a 16-story office, lofts, retail and a park. i've heard additional development is possible as well. renderings should be floating around soon i'm sure.
  12. Maybe I'm being a bit naive and believing the hype, but Colliers International is putting this site up for sale and pumping it up (as they all do, no?). Maybe it's not as great as they say since they reveal that the property is only 45% leased as of now. Still, it does seem like a pretty good location. It reminds me of nw corner Weslayan & 59 b/c of the gas station on the corner. Are apartments the destiny of this location as well? Is this location really as unique as they claim it will be and truly the last site of it's kind to become available for years to come? I doubt I guess, but it's a place for us to keep an eye on.   13. So, I just heard from someone this afternoon that the entire block bounded by Bammel, Sackett, Earl and Philfall is under contract with Borlenghi. No confirmation if that is who actually has it under contract (I hope so) but supposedly the tenants have until the end of the year to vacate. This is the block of bungalows that have been used for years as offices. Would be a great location for a highrise. Can someone confirm?

  16. I received this email yesterday - I have no idea how I'm even on the list but... Apparently Randall Davis is building a new property behind the Carraba's on Kirby, starting in April 2012. It looks to be about six stories (five residential and probably one lobby/garage). The details, per the email, are below. I've also attached a rendering, which was sent with the email. I have no interest in violating their intellectual property by posting this here, but since the email was sent as an advertisement, I imagine they wouldn't mind the publicity. Here's the body of the email. It came from an email advertisement, so a warning up front that it's marketing-speak. Randall Davis here, wanting to capture a little of your time to discuss a new vision inspired by a recent trip to NYC. Visiting a friend in Soho, I was mesmerized by a design and style of living not found in Houston. I'm putting the finishing touches on a new development on W Main; right behind Carraba's new restaurant on Kirby. Living here, you can walk to Whole Foods or West Avenue, or order food from Johnny Carrabba's three new restaurants. It will house ONLY 10, 3 bedroom - 3 1/2 bath residences, each with 3,000 square feet including a large terrace. I believe there are Houstonians who want mid-rise living in a small exclusive building with low maintenance fees. I estimate maintenance fees will be $450 monthly ($.15 per sq ft). How? This is a finely designed home for ONLY 10 residents. An elevator splits the building and opens directly into your residence (2 units per floor), no hallways, excellent privacy and access by code or reader. Parking is underneath the mid-rise tower. There is no concierge or guard, but this type of living requires none in my opinion. The property named Chateau 10 will have an urban European design; this is not a glass box high rise. Living room views are pointed west at the Galleria area. Ceiling heights are 10 feet, 11 feet on the top penthouse floor. I'm working toward the following amenities but admittedly they are a work in progress.
