  1. A new midrise apartment complex is proposed in the woodlands. This is not part of Hughes Landing which is why I've made a new thread. It is being developed by Howard Hughes Corp which is responsible for Hughes Landing. This doesn't have a name yet. Apparently its already broken ground. Developer: Howard Hughes Corp Architect: Shepley Bulfinch Estimated Complettion: Q4 2020 From HBJ (June 21, 2019): Location on Development Map: Image from article:
  2. Finally, someone is reusing this building. This entire corner of Westheimer and Mulberry has been dead for some time. This is that building with the famous multi-colored art wall with the dripping paint that every girl has to take an instagram photo in front of haha. The main tenant looks to be a niche thrift store called "Out of the Closet". Apparently there will also be offices for a Pharmacy and some kind of Healthcare foundation. Biscuit is on the wall, so are they involved? Is this there project? @CrockpotandGravel Anyway you would be able to fix this mess of uses? haha A lot seems to be going on here. Here are some images:
  3. EDIT: @ekdrm2d1 Originally broke this story back on June 24th on the "Holy Places" subforum. This will be a thread discussing the actual construction taking place regarding the master plan. The other topic in "Holy Places" will be dedicated to St Anne in general. **Original Post** Seems the big churchs all around Houston are getting upgrades. First I posted about St. Martins and now St. Anne. Developer: St. Anne Catholic Community Architect: (Unknown) Phase I Completion: Spring 2020 While investgating HBJ I found this: Did some more digging and I found this from Vaughn Construction: http://www.vaughnconstruction.com/news/2018/03/02/st.-anne-catholic-community-selects-vaughn-for-campus-addition Image from Vaughn: I remember walking along Shepherd a couple weeks ago and seeing that they were building a drive. Didn't know it was part of a much bigger deal. From St. Anne's website (construction photos) from 7/19/2019: https://www.saintanne.org/news-events
  4. I've come to term this building the "Merry-go-round" of uses building. This was originally home to a small business called "Flower Vault" which was a weird concept of fancy art walls were people can go and take pics of themselves or products? It catered to the instagram scene. Was there for maybe a year. Now that is out the window. Then about a month ago I saw Flower Vault disappeared. It had a sign for a fancy upscale barbershop, which would have been cool since Cutloose Hair is down the street (one place for girls and another for guys), but last week the temporary sign got pulled even after they painted over the Flower Vault letters. This week in the "Merry-go-round" of uses building is Joshua Caleb Art. I don't know if this is permanent or again if its going to be a popup retail space. If you don't know who Joshua Caleb is, he used to be a linebacker for the Houston Texans. I'm probably going to go to the opening event which is on August 16th and see what this is all about. This is also, apparently, in tandem with the Boys & Girls Club.
  5. Weird that a project of this scale hasn't made going up, but with it being near Greenspoint I'm not surprised. This is well into construction and actually is supposed to be finished August 16th. In 2016 Houston was selected to host the BMX World Championships, but we didn't have a facility to host, so instead we built one, of course! Really neat project outside the loop. Because of its size and importance I thought it was "going up" material. If you are a BMX or skateboarder this will definitely be your thing. This is located on Greens Bayou. Really awesome project. Developer: Greater Greenspoint Redevelopment Authority Architect: Endrestudio + Office of James Burnett Budget: $26,000,000 Estimated Completion: August 16, 2019 From HBJ: https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2019/07/10/new-20-acre-bike-park-in-north-houston-sets.html Images from article:
  6. New apartment complex going up near Lake Houston in Atascocita. Developer: GenCap Partners Inc Architect: JHP Architects + SJL Design Group Estimated Completion: 2Q 2020 From HBJ (July 3, 2019): Development Map Location: Render from Article:
  7. EDIT: Story was originally broke by @ekdrm2d1 Friday, July 26th, 2019. If you want to go and read more about prior discussions about this site then you can find it in "Holy Places" subforum. This thread is to discuss the current renovations/master plan of the church. **Original Post** Didn't know this, but this is apparently the "biggest Episcopal church" in the United States. The more you know I guess. This going to be quite the extensive renovation/remodel of the entire facility. Developer: St. Martin's Episcopal Church + Tellepsen Architect: Jackson & Ryan Architects Estimated Completion: 20-24 Months from July 2019 (so possibly Q3 2021) Budget: $55,000,000 From Houston Business Journal: Images from article:
  8. Seems we missed this renovation. Per this report by BISNOW extensive renovations are set to finish end of summer. Looks like all these new urban core projects all of the city are setting off an arms race among the older crop of towers and office buildings. Its exciting to see because that kind of competition only means better things for us all. Its about time too because these buildings from the early to late 90's need to start updating and market pressures seeing to it that they do. Developer: Transwestern Architect: CDI Douglass Pye Inc Estimated Completion: End of Summer From BISNOW: (image of the existing building)
  9. Since we Don't have Subforums for various "Villages" or Spring Branch, so I'll be putting these here for now. In 2017 the residents of Spring Branch ISD passed a Bond Referendum. One of the projects is a renovation/reuse of spaces in Spring Woods High School. Plans call for changes to the Dining Commons, a refreshed outdoor plaza stage, and changes to the library. Developer: SBISD Architect: PBK Estimated Completion: 3Q 2020 Bond Info: https://www.springbranchisd.com/about/bond-2017/campus-bond-work/spring-woods-high-school This is supposed to be under construction, but we are still waiting to see photo updates on the website SBISD Presentation (March 4, 2019): https://v3.boardbook.org/Public/PublicItemDownload.aspx?ik=44002225 Images from Presentation:
  10. After years and years of back and forth between HISD, the architects, the school, and the community, this one finally broke ground in late March early April. This is a reconstruction of Bellaire's existing school. Originally part of the 2012 Bond referendum, this is anticipated to finally bring this massive bond to a close. Personally, I'm amazed this one ever got built. Lets just say this wasn't an easy project for those involved to develop, and there was a lot of chaos, but all of that aside the important thing is that its happening. Developer: HISD Architect: PBK Estimated Completion: 2021 (students will move back in), 2022 (final completion) Budget: $106,724,000 Article about groundbreaking (March 28th): https://blogs.houstonisd.org/news/2019/03/28/bellaire-hs-gathers-to-celebrate-start-of-construction-on-new-building/ Site Plan: Render (for some reason the only publicly avaiable render...is of the parking garage portion...oh well)
  11. Can't find a forum thread for this, and because there isn't a subforum for Near Northside I'm going to put it in The Heights for now @editor This is well into construction and per the calendar provided by HISD, it should be completed sometime early next year. This is a large expansion project + renovation/reuse of the existing building on campus. Northside High School was part of the 2012 Bond Referendum. Project link: https://www.houstonisd.org/Page/71972 Developer: HISD Architect: IBI Group Architects Estimated Completion: mid-2019 Budget: $46,764,000 Original Render: Latest Photos from HISD:
