In case anybody else has been living under rocks during the Summer, TX Governor Greg Abbott (R) has pretty much all but announced his reelection campaign for a 3rd term in 2022, which means if he pulls this off, Abbott will become the Lone Star State's 2nd longest-serving TX Governor with 12 years in the TX Governor's Mansion by January 19th, 2027. https://www.statesman.com/news/20190614/tilove-abbott-says-biden-will-fade-and-trump-will-win-texas
The revolving door from Capitol Hill continues.... US Rep. Gene Green (D-TX), who has represented the 29th Congressional District since 1993, announced he will not be seeking reelection to another term in 2018, ending almost 46 years of public service. He previously served in the TX State Senate in the 6th District from 1985 until his election to Congress in 1992 & the TX House of Representatives in the 95th & 140th Districts from 1973 to 1985. This will open the doors for several ambitious politicos, could we see former Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia (D) running for this US House seat again ? https://www.texastribune.org/2017/11/13/us-rep-gene-green-democrat-retire-congress/
With the new sheriff in town, comes in the new policies of a new administration at the Harris County Sheriff's Office. In terms of how Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman [R] has been handling staff changes, etc., it won't make the diversity advocates very happy at all as he's cleaning out the Garcia staffers including African American, Latino & Asian appointees to either civilian posts or fired them altogether! There's also rumblings among minority deputies that Hickman's moves are going back to the days of then-Sheriff Tommy Thomas [R], who escalated the Good Ol' Boy System inside the Sheriff's Department so bad, it's not even funny! Hickman, of course, has flatly denied these accusations of being hostile to minority deputies, etc., saying he hasn't even finish assembling his entire staff yet. I'd like to hear from y'all including your reaction & thoughts on these developments! http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Critics-say-diversity-lacking-in-new-sheriff-s-6284551.php http://www.houstonmatters.org/segments/segment-b/2015/06/17/new-sheriff-ron-hickman-discusses-changes-to-his-department-and-diversity-of-his-staff
