  2. One of the things I've been kind of curious about is the history of The Woodlands, Texas, which doesn't seem to be very well-documented since it was only built in the 1970s. Some tidbits I've gleaned include the Wharf, which was actually built (something I doubted initially) and contained an ice rink and boutique shops. It was eventually renovated into a conference/resort center, but I have seen no pictures of the inside as it was. An article I read on George Mitchell mentioned how The Woodlands didn't have a lot of grocery stores (if any) at first, but the Chron refers to (through article searches) that an upscale local grocery chain called Jamail's sold out two stores to Randalls in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Apparently the shopping center at Sawdust and Interstate 45 had both a Wal-Mart and a Kmart in there at some point (the Kmart being one of the extra-small late 1970s prototypes). Is there a place where I could find out more of the history of these types of things?
  3. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital will break ground on a new, seven-story patient tower early next year. The cost of the project is roughly $104 million. http://www.ultimatewoodlands.com/2009/10/hospital-plans-new-104-million-facility

  5. A new midrise apartment complex is proposed in the woodlands. This is not part of Hughes Landing which is why I've made a new thread. It is being developed by Howard Hughes Corp which is responsible for Hughes Landing. This doesn't have a name yet. Apparently its already broken ground. Developer: Howard Hughes Corp Architect: Shepley Bulfinch Estimated Complettion: Q4 2020 From HBJ (June 21, 2019): Location on Development Map: Image from article:
  6. swamplot reports: Anadarko Petroleum announced to its employees last week that the company is ready to begin constructing a second office tower just west of its existing headquarters building in The Woodlands Town Center, a source tells Swamplot. The new building will fit on the corner of Lake Robbins Dr. and Woodloch Forest Dr., just south of The Woodlands Mall, and like the current tower will be visible from miles south on I-45. At the announced 31 stories, the new structure would be one floor "shorter taller." http://swamplot.com/...rst/2012-01-17/ works for me!
  7. Major development announcement for The Woodlands. New mixed-use plan is on the northern east shore of Lake Woodlands on Lake Woodlands Drive. The development will be across the street (Lake Front Circle) from The Woodlands United Methodist Church. http://www.woodlandsonline.com/npps/story.cfm?nppage=48249 Sounds like the Hughes Corporation is cashing in, infrastructure be damned. Can we get timed lights in Town Center already? Widen Grogan's Mill?

  11. Seems like this flew under the radar. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/bizfeed/article/Louis-Vuitton-is-coming-to-The-Woodlands-14284471.php Pretty impressive how The Woodlands continues to expand its luxury retail options.
  12. Article from Woodlands Online: The Woodlands Township and The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion look at possibility of Performing Arts Center https://www.woodlandsonline.com/npps/story.cfm?nppage=63185 "At its May 22, 2019, Board of Directors Meeting, The Woodlands Township unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands (CWMP) regarding the possibility of creating a Performing Arts Center in The Woodlands.CWMP, better known as The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, and the Township are discussing the possibility of entering into an agreement to build, maintain and operate a Performing Arts Center near the current location of the Pavilion. In the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), members of the Pavilion Board of Directors and The Woodlands Township agree that they desire to explore further options to ascertain whether the construction, maintenance and operation of such a Center is a viable project for the Pavilion and Township to jointly pursue. The MOU is a non-binding approach such that due diligence may be conducted by the parties to determine viability of the joint development of the Center.“This is a major step in furthering the development of performing arts in The Woodlands,” said Township Chairman Gordy Bunch. “It feels right that on the day after acknowledging our founder George Mitchell’s 100th birthday this week, we are moving forward with one of his wishes to have a performing arts theater in The Woodlands.”

What do you all think about The Woodlands & Spring Texas for a place to buy a home and settle down? Do you all think that those two areas are nice, safe or open minded and tolerant? ---Travis & Stephen travisbernard.hunt@gmail.com
  18. Fresh from the rumor mill: It is my understanding that the shopping strip where Popeye's, Crabby Daddy's and others will be torn down in 2015 to make way for a high rise. How do I know this? Well, my aunt got to chit chatting with one of the owners of a business in that strip center and they said that they were going to be moving soon to a new location because the landlord of that strip center is no longer signing long-term leases. They, the businesses, were notified a few weeks back that the center will be razed and replaced with a high rise office building. I have nothing more on this but upon hearing it I had two immediate thoughts. 1: it couldn't be in a more awkward spot. 2. Traffic is already horrendous at the 45/Rayford intersection. It'll be a total cluster in that area if this is true. Seems like such a strange spot for a tower, yes?
  19. http://www.yourconroenews.com/news/article/The-Woodlands-Loop-New-traffic-study-recommends-11092125.php#photo-12776242 Montgomery County study recommends creating a loop road around The Woodlands to combat thru-traffic. It also recommends expanding Sawdust to 8 lanes. Perhaps expediting the connection of Holzwarth and Sawmill over Spring Creek would help reduce the traffic that exits I-45 at Rayford/Sawdust.
  20. This one blew me away! On the front page of the Villager is an article about them imploding the relatively new 11-story Timberloch Tower. At first I thought maybe it was because Anadarko was going to move forward with it's third tower but alas the site will be prepped for reforestation. *eyes watering* Not that there's anything architectually spectacular about the building, it's still going to take away from The Woodlands skyline. The building was built in 1998 and apparently has been vacant over a year! I find it hard to believe they couldn't find a tenant to fill the building or to get somebody to buy it. I'm sad. http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/woodlands/news/article/Timberloch-Tower-in-The-Woodlands-to-be-demolished-11001852.php

  22. Wow...more growing pains for The Woodlands. In the Houston Chronicle, it was announced that the Condo tower being planned for The Woodlands Waterway will stand at 20+ floors. It didn't give an exact number, but said it would top out higher than 20. Not only this, but several other mid-rises are planned for Woodloch Forest drive and The Woodlands Parkway. Read the article below. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nb/woo...ws/5644653.html

  24. Always offering the very latest, The Woodlands Mall recently welcomed five new, sought-after retailers to the shopping center. Additionally, a number of retailers have been moving to new locations and improving shopping environments for visitors. Recent additions to the list of retailers include: Oil & Vinegar, described as a fashion food for food, opened earlier this year on the lower level near the Courtyard Shops. A fun shopping experience for the novice or the gourmet cook, the shelves at Oil & Vinegar are filled with treats such as Italian white truffle oil, raspberry vinegar, pastas, relish, dip and more. Sona MedSpa, a nationally known luxury spa recently opened in the office component of the shopping center. Sona provides laser hair removal and anti-aging services. The Woodlands Mall is only the second Houston location for one of the nation
