  9. This thread was originally created September 18, 2019. I'm reposting / reupping this because this post and other content from me are no longer available on the forum due to a mod removing my account and its content in "error" (supposedly). The information may be outdated or no longer relevant, but reupping provides an archive to what was posted. It also provides a place to post future updates about this property if and when it's redeveloped An archive link of the thread before its deletion is coming. Moderator note: Removed your mod bashing. 923 Wakefield Dr in Garden Oaks, Houston (this is not in the Heights or part of the Greater Heights area) Ar Street View from March 2019:

  11. I created a thread for this a while back, but I can't find it in through Google cache since all of my contributions to this forum were deleted. So, I'm reupping the thread again minus the posts that were in the previous thread (since I didn't save it and it's been removed from Google cache). 1505 Oliver Street in the First Ward. An archive link of this thread before its deletion is here. Mods, please don't move this to the Heights forum where all of my other Washington Corridor posts were moved to this week. This is NOT in the Heights and it's not part of the Heights area. It's the Washington Corridor area, an entirely different area that as suggested and advocated for previously needs its own forum. There is lots of development happening here, much spurred by the Sawyer Yards and Buffalo Heights developments, which usually merits the creation of a new neighborhood fourm. Thanks. 15. Disappointing to see another historic demo (per HCAD this structure goes back to 1926), though IMO this building has been in fairly rough shape for years. New permits suggest a 4K sq foot c-store + kitchen. Hoping that with Caveza closing across the street this can bring some new life into the area - and it's something more than the c-store (Oscar's) that is already just a block north of here...

  22. https://houston.eater.com/2021/7/29/22599417/tony-mandolas-relocating-washington-corridor Days after stalwart Houston seafood restaurant Tony Mandola’s closed its doors, it looks as if the beloved spot has already found a new home. A sales tax permit application filed with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts indicates that Tony Mandola’s has plans to open at 1017 Houston Avenue, in the space formerly occupied by Avenue Grill. In a phone call with Eater, a representative for Laurenzo Restaurant Group confirmed that the Houston Avenue space would be the future home of Tony Mandola’s. According to LoopNet, where the property was previously available for lease, the 3,728 square foot space building has been closed since 2018, immediately after a “significant” remodel that included a new roof and extensive updates to the space’s kitchen. Tony Mandola’s permanently closed its doors on July 28 after a decade in the city’s culinary scene. Throughout the years, the restaurant developed a devoted clientele of regulars thanks to its bountiful raw bar and top-notch service. When the closure was announced, co-owner Phyllis Mandola announced that a new location for the restaurant was in the works, and would be announced “soon.” A timeline in which Houstonians can expect this longtime restaurant to make a comeback has not yet been announced. The sales tax permit is set to go into effect in October 2021.
  23. Looks like they have leased the spot on 19th Street that used to be Retropolis between Manready Mercantile and Teasip. Not much info on the website, but I am pretty sure it is the same people as in the Chron article. This is a breath of fresh air for the Heights. I would not have thought that anything like this would have even been a possibility at a time when everyone is fighting for a spot in the Heights for restaurants/bars/boutiques/spas, etc. https://houstontoymuseum.com/ https://www.chron.com/entertainment/article/Houston-Toy-Museum-looking-for-permanent-site-2004388.php
