  1. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/7979-Fannin-St-Houston-TX/17303532/ NewQuest Properties has been retained as the exclusive Broker for the disposition of 7979 Fannin Street in Houston, Texas. The subject property is 3.23 acres and is improved with a 167 room exterior corridor Extended Stay America branded hotel built in 1995. The property will be sold free and clear of any encumbrances. The land value now far exceeds the improvements and the site is best suited for redevelopment to an alternative or upgraded use.
  2. I can't believe we don't have a thread for this! (or do we?) Here are a few photos I took yesterday. http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/gallery/1237377429/gallery_3613_2_91212.jpg http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/gallery/1237377429/gallery_3613_2_195305.jpg
  3. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any plans to renovate/rebuild the Kroger at Cambridge/OST? I live right down the street from it and find it really convenient, but really outdated and the layout a bit cramped. I'm hoping something similar to the Montrose (near Westheimer) renovation could happen at this location. An expanded "prepared meals" section and dairy section would be really nice. Also, a bigger entrance would be good too...My far-fetched wish is that they would buy some of the land next to them and build a brand new store like the Studemont location, and convert the existing into more parking and a Kroger gas station...I went to the Kirby store the other day and it looks like they could handle a larger store in the area.
  4. Someone please tell me more about this project. This would be for the Texas Medical Center at the corner of Main & Holcombe, where the Bank of America building sits. http://www.slideshare.net/QingjingZuo/smilodon-rendering-collection-20154-47319504

  6. Shriners Hospital for Children in Texas Medical Center is closing and parents are shocked https://www.khou.com/article/news/local/shriners-hospital-for-children-in-texas-medical-center-is-closing-and-parents-are-shocked/285-275e9430-e2e7-4939-aac0-5627a7566fac HOUSTON — A big change is coming to the Texas Medical Center, the Shriners Hospital for Children will be closing that location and consolidating with the Galveston branch in 2021. Mel Bower, Director of Marketing for Shriners, confirms the Houston Shriners hospital will consolidate with the Shriner’s hospital in Galveston. Bowers says they are consolidating to make services more efficient for patients, who he says shuttle back and forth between the hospitals. Bowers says one reason the Galveston location was chosen is, “The presence of the burns center in Galveston was an important consideration.” Shriners says they hope to bring as many of their current team as possible and that all services offered in the Med Center location will be offered in Galveston. "We will continue to offer all of our existing services, the benefit is that now they will all exist under one roof,” Bowers said. As for what will become of the building that one the Houston Shriners moves out, Bowers says they just don’t know yet.
  7. MD Anderson South Campus is located within the UT Research Park Complex. M.D. Anderson, Health Science Center break ground on research facility Houston Business Journal - 1:46 PM CDT Tuesday, April 10, 2007 The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston are collaborating on a new imaging research facility. The organizations broke ground Tuesday at The University of Texas Research Park on what will become the Center for Advanced Biomedical Imaging Research, dedicated to developing technologies that will detect heart disease, cancer and other illnesses at their earliest stages. The facility, scheduled for completion in late 2009, is being built in cooperation with GE Healthcare and the Texas Enterprise Fund. Link to article. Wow, not only am I getting a 1.1-million-square-foot teaching hospital within walking distance of my condo and a connection to N. Macgregor via Cambridge, but I'm also getting a 315,000-square-foot facility just down the street! I was hoping for more verticality, but I can live with it.
  8. Parkwood is at OST and Cambridge, just west of the VA Hospital. I understand that it's owned by Baylor, and is a large brick garden apartment complex with over 100 live oaks on the property, hardwoods, good square footage, and very reasonable rents (try $690 for 1233 sq. ft. 2 BR + den apt.) Most of the residents work in the Med Center, obviously. Many of them are post-docs and researchers, lots of Asian families. Lots of the families planted gardens there. Residents were given notice on September 1 to vacate by November 1. It's going to be demolished. Anybody know the history of this place? I think it was built around 1948. Who designed it? What's going up instead? I assume all the live oaks are history, they are already cutting them down on the VA's eastern border. If you want any free landscaping (crepe myrtles, wisteria, rubber trees, etc. ), now's the time to dig 'em up. Any good suggestions for apartment alternatives in the area?
  9. MD Anderson to demolish MacKie & Kamrath dental school. MD Anderson Cancer Center has informed Texas Historical Commission of its plans to demolish the former University of Texas Dental Branch, 6516 MD Anderson Boulevard in the Texas Medical Center. MacKie & Kamrath were the architects for the original five-story building, completed in 1955, as well as later additions constructed through the 1980s. Neither Houston’s historic preservation ordinance nor the Texas Antiquities Code apply to the property because the building is not located in a historic district and is not a designated landmark. Preservation Houston is encouraging MD Anderson to document the building before it is demolished. The historic building has been vacant since the UT Dental Branch (now UT School of Dentistry) opened its new facility at 7500 Cambridge earlier this year. The dental school was founded as the Texas Dental College in 1905 and became part of the UT System in 1943.

  11. Erm, HOK has this listed as an ongoing project. Can anyone confirm?

  13. Menninger Clinic At 12301 South Main Street. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2011/03/menninger-clinic-to-break-ground-on.html This may have already been posted but I coudln't find it.
  14. I didn't know where to post my random thought about the Texas Medical Center. Thought I'd create a thread dedicated to random things related to the TMC. This afternoon, I thought to myself how many vacant parcels are there left in the TMC? What exactly is taking developers so long to buy and build on these high-profile lots? - 7200 Main - 7100 Fannin - 1500 Old Spanish Trail Does Hines or Hanover have a luxury residential tower in the TMC? Hanover TMC sounds so good! 7200 Main: 7100 Fannin: 1500 Old Spanish Trail, includes the parking garage:
  15. The most infamous green space in the Texas Medical Center. Whoever the landscape architect was did an outstanding job! The small description listed on MD Anderson's parks and gardens webpage: https://www.mdanderson.org/patients-family/becoming-our-patient/while-youre-here/parks-gardens.html The Prairie Enjoy winding trails, trees, benches and birds. This setting features a 2-acre native prairie and wetland restoration, complete with educational signage. Here are some photos that I took today. Prairie Pothole Wetlands, Oasis and Nursery. Flowers and Flyers, MD Anderson Prairie Wildlife Oasis. Return of the Natives, Prairie Returns to the Texas Medical Center. Photo of the week! The TMC skyline with fresh spring bluebonnets. An aerial photograph that I took a few years ago. It is worth noting that there is two proposed buildings planned for this site. I don't think the green space will last much longer.
  16. Today I stopped by MD Anderson's Healthy Living Garden that is located on the west side of the Dan L. Duncan Building. I agree that it's nice to see park land next to all these hospitals. It really does feel peaceful being amongst the grass and flowers. A lot of the parks have uplifting quotes as well. Keep your spirit up! The small description listed on their parks and gardens webpage: https://www.mdanderson.org/patients-family/becoming-our-patient/while-youre-here/parks-gardens.html Healthy Living Garden Observe seasonal herbs and vegetables growing in this demonstration garden. Educational signage provides tips for healthy nutrition. Here are two photos that I took today:

  19. The Extended Stay America Suites Hotel located at 1301 South Braeswood Boulevard has a limited time. Located practically across the street from TMC Helix Park and some vacant MD Anderson land. MD Anderson will need this hotel parcel in order to build. Although, it is nice to have some budget (regular) hotel options when you are sick. Maybe it's a good thing that this hotel is here. Here's some photos that I took today:
  20. Dr. Carmen J. Kamas, DDS has her office in this tiny office building that's surrounded by MD Anderson parcels. In due time this will be undoubtedly controlled my MDA and it will be demolished. Here's a photo that I took today:
  21. The newest Texas Medical Center Parking Garage (that is freestanding) is now officially listed on TMC's Visitor Parking Brochure! Such a beautiful building. Elkus Manfredi really did excellent work here. For reference, the Texas Medical Center Garages 23 and 25 are in the basement of their respective buildings. The newest TMC map: https://www.tmc.edu/parking/visitor-parking/#MapGuideDownloads Photo of the garage that I took today:
  22. This is such a small space to own. They would have to buy the Extended Stay hotel next door in order to build anything.
  23. The TMC Mid Campus is really unique. The institutions have yet to take ownership of all these 1-story, 30-year old buildings. Here is one business that's located in an MD-Anderson dominated area. MDA will soon buy this small automotive shop and add it to their land holdings. 24. Today I stopped by to take photos of the Houston Fire Station No. 33 located at 7117 Fannin Street. The building is very well kept. I hardly remember the demolished one that was located across the street. Here are the two pictures I took today.
