This one is opening next month (April 13, 2019), and will be home to Houston's Major League Rugby team, the Houston SaberCats. It's currently in the construction phase (broke ground back in July 2018), and will have a modest capacity of 4,000. Overall project cost is $15.25 million, and was partially funded by a long-term loan from the City of Houston. The location here is city-owned land at a newly-developed addition to Houston Sports Park which will be visible along the South Freeway (SH 288) at its overpass at Sims Bayou. Principal naming rights were sold to current team sponsor AVEVA, who is a British-based multinational software company. MLS’ Columbus Crew seem intent on moving to Austin in time for 2019 season. While it was stated move would occur “if a stadium deal couldn’t be reached in Columbus,” owner Anthony Precourt has already conducted negotiations with Austin officials, surveyed the market, trademarked names (Austin FC & Austin Athletic), hired PR firms locally and begun a social media campaign aimed at the Austin market (mls2atx.com).
