I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire & Southwestern Texan dated December 29, 1965 and came across a business ad for Rettig’s Drive-In Restaurant located at 7205 Hillcroft Ave. Did anyone ever eat here? I unfortunately never gotten a chance to try it. How many locations in Houston did they have? I know of 1932 W. Gray St. 2410 W. Holcombe Blvd. 7205 Hillcroft Ave.

formerlly located @ the corner of Pierce & Loisiana where the City is currently bldg. a new super {9 bay} fire station. Does anyone have any old photos that they would share? I used to work there in my youth and really enjoyed when a customer would change there order AFTER we had began to make it to something else. Well now don't ja know that ice cream can't be thrown away. The consumtion of ice cream was just 1 of the bennies for a kid back then. And I'm here to tell you that even way back then {50's} when we had to go back to the plant to retreive a new 5 gallon tub of cream is was frozen hard as reinforced concrete 2day.

Penn Rettig Mansion At 1920 Woodbury St. I'm looking for the historic mansion owned by the Rettig's ice cream family. Any info? The 1920 Woodbury house was built in 1930 by Katharine and Harry Mott and belonged to the estate of Penn Rettig, of Rettig’s Ice Cream, until 1991. The next owner added several structures to the house, including a cave and Romanesque outdoor stage, and eventually purchased a demolition permit for the property in July, 2007, and the house was demolished. The property was sold to Moody National Bank, which plans to construct “Cambridge Tower” on the parcel of land.
