  1. It recently came to my attention that one owner controls the entire 1,750-acre stretch from El Dorado Blvd. at the Gulf Freeway, down and around Baybrook Mall, across NASA Road One, and south to where Grissom Street ends, less than a half mile from Clear Creek. From its northernmost point to its southernmost point is 3.8 miles. One owner, CDC Houston Inc., has control of the entire property. They are affiliated with Southbrook Corporation, Coventry Development Corporation, Eastfield Realty, and Clearfield Realty, all with ties to NYC. Anybody know what is planned on this site, which is practically infill?
  2. The Randall's stores at 9660 Westheimer (near Gessner), 1407 Voss (between Woodway and San Felipe), and 14610 Memorial (at Dairy Ashford) were all Handy Andy stores.
  3. Weslayan Plaza announcement: Goodbye Chuck E., hello Torchy http://www.instantnewsbellaire.com/weslayan-plaza-announcement-goodbye-chuck-e-hello-torchy/ Weslayan Plaza is going to lose a longtime family favorite, Chuck E. Cheese, but gain an outlet of the growing Torchy’s Taco chain, Instant News learned Monday (May 21). A spokeswoman for Regency Centers said Torchy’s is poised to open in the east section of the plaza in summer of 2019. There was no immediate word about whether Chuck E. Cheese will relocate in the Bellaire-West U-southwest Houston area, but InstantNews has contacted the chain’s corporate media relations department for a comment. UPDATE: A Chuck E. Cheese rep says the company will have no comment at this time, but Regency Centers has said the restaurant will close in September. Torchy’s began in Austin. Its menu of non-traditional taco combinations and sides for breakfast, lunch and dinner has expanded successfully into 11 Texas cities, with 14 locations in the Houston area alone, including one in Rice Village. The chain also has multiple locations in Oklahoma and Colorado. The new Torchy’s will be just a few doors down from the 30-year-old Weslayan Plaza family mainstay, Skeeter’s, which features tacos and other Tex-Mex and southwestern specialties but offers a broader menu.
  4. This was originally posted May 21, 2017 in the previous thread for West 19th Retail Center @ 19th & Shepherd. It's being reposted / reupped since the original thread and other content from me were removed. Tarka Indian Kitchen is opening in phase III in June. From Eater Houston: The Heights will have a brand new option for Indian cuisine when Austin-based restaurant Tarka Indian Kitchen makes its debut next month. A representative for the restaurant tells Eater that the first Houston outpost of Tarka Indian Kitchen will open at 19th & Shepherd in the coming days. Construction is almost completed on the space, which will feature a hand-painted mandala mural and walls painted in bright red and yellow hues. According to Eater Austin, Tarka serves up quality fast-casual fare, including curries, chaat, and kabobs. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options will also be on offer, like paneer in coconut sauce served over steamed basmati rice. For sopping up all those spicy sauces, naan and roti are baked daily on premises. The Heights is just the first Houston outpost of Tarka Indian Kitchen in the works. In early fall, a second location will open at The Market at Springwoods Village. The chain currently operates five restaurants in Austin, Round Rock, and San Antonio. Tarka Indian Kitchen expects to kick open the doors on June 14. The Spring location is set to arrive by September. https://houston.eater.com/2017/5/18/15656772/tarka-indian-kitchen-houston-heights-opening-june-2017
  5. I have heard a rumor going around that now they are going to build a Super Target across from the New Walmart on FM 2978. Has anyone heard of this or has knowledge of it? I would have been fine with only a Super Target, but doing a Walmart and a Target this close to our house has us very concerned. If its true, I truly think we will sell. I am very sad about what has happened to what we thought the Woodlands would be.
  6. We're moving next month and I'm going to go ahead and bite the bullet and join a place for the first time since I quit my corporate job and lost access to the company gym. I need a place mostly for free weights and some machines, although I usually get my cardio exercise outside running or biking. I read on Yelp that the Lifetime Fitness on Hwy 6 is really nice but expensive. I've also read that the LA Fitness in River Park is also pretty good, but sometimes pretty crowded. Any other recommendations?
  7. What is going up on the corner of 99 and Mason across from Sonic? When are they going to finally build the Kroger? I see 2 banks and part of a shopping being built now.
  8. New Casa Rico's location keeps the good food coming. First Alden Bridge, then Research Forest and now just outside of Grogan's Mill on Sawdust. Casa Rico's food quality and cleanliness might just… Click here to view the full review at Yelp.com
  9. I was returning home from school in Austin over Thanksgiving by way of 2978 and Woodlands Parkway and I was appalled at everything that had been built there since I left. Perhaps it's just that I've been gone from The Woods long enough to lose my rose-colored glasses and in reality it was always bad and I just never noticed, but the retail development at that intersection is terrible! I know that it isn't the first time that freestanding retail has been built in The Woods - 242, or should I say 1960-With-Trees, is terrible too - but at least 242 isn't as residential as Terramont. What happened to "Village Centers" like Panther Creek or Cochran's Crossing where the shopping is consolidated and actually hidden behind trees? I remember when the Wal-Mart was being built and the Development Company told us that it was "specially designed for The Woodlands." Turns out the only thing special about is is perhaps the colors. Every Wal-Mart I've driven by in Austin either already looks like that one or is being renovated to look like it. The worst offender in Terramont, though, has got to be that public storage bulding. Ugliest building in all of The Woodlands, anyone? In my architecture class our professor used The Woodlands as an example of designing with nature and topography, etc. but I thought that it was funny that he was careful to stipulate that he meant The Woodlands circa the 1970's. He didn't include "all the trash they're building now." It really made me sad returning home, though, because what had started out as such a novel plan has turned into someplace that's hardly any better than every other master planned development in Houston. A brilliant idea sacrificed to TWDC's profits.
  10. Talk is flying around that two armed black males attempted to abduct a female in broad daylight near the Randalls. Is this true? The Woodlands never reports the dirty truth in the Watch area so its hard to confirm. If its true, I guess the bubble is bursting.
  11. One aspect of this new planned center at Kuykendahl and Flintridge is often overlooked. It was designed to be environmentally friendly. It is the first to gain certification. http://www.thewoodlandsgreen.org/
  12. We have enjoyed the Nit Noi in Rice Village and in Tanglewood for years. I am so glad to see them opening one up here.
  13. Well, if you are even in Sugarland, try Thai Cottage II, located in the Sweetwater Shopping center. The food is good, and the prices are not bad! (bring 10$, and you can get an order of something, a drink, and enough change for a good tip!)
