I was wondering, are there any plans to build a light rail line to the "uptown houston" area? it would be really cool and with the west loop cursed by an ancient indian burial ground to have terrible traffic, i could see a lot of going to a park n ride and riding metrorail over there. got an email from the Montrose Management District-- Breaking News: the Texas Transportation Commission received their recommended list of projects from staff and voted to approve the Montrose Management District’s application for funding to re-light the bridges over US Hwy 59 at their meeting Thursday morning. This project will replace the non-functioning original light strands with a state-of-the-art LED lighting system that not only will bring back the illumination that has been missing from the US 59 corridor for almost ten years, but will also create a safer environment both below the bridge decking and also for vehicular & pedestrian traffic on the bridges. The linkage provided by the Montrose bridge cannot be understated. Montrose is the only north/south connector west of the Central Business District that connects traffic from the heavily traveled I-10 to the Medical Center. March 27, 2005, 10:12PM BUS STOP Medical Center transit center to get escalators Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Bus riders transferring to trains at the Texas Medical Center Transit Center will no longer have to walk up and down stairs to make the connection. ADVERTISEMENT The Metropolitan Transit Authority Board of Directors approved a contract Thursday with Satterfield & Pontikes Construction to install escalators at the transit center's skybridge, which connects bus loading areas with the rail station in the center of Fannin. Metro had planned to modify the skybridge in future years but said heavy ridership through the medical center justifies moving the escalator installation to this year. The $2.6 million project, 80 percent of which will be reimbursed by the federal government, is scheduled for completion in October. This contract also includes modifying the rail station to accommodate three-car trains. The Main Street line was built to handle only two-car trains because the short block lengths downtown will not accommodate anything longer. Bryan Pennington, Metro's vice president of planning, engineering and construction, said it makes sense to modify the rail platforms now rather than having to do another retrofit should three-car shuttle trains ever be considered. The transit authority has opened an online RideStore at www.ridemetro.org. Riders may purchase monthly and yearly passes plus Stored Value Cards. Worthing would also be rebuilt. Worthing parents are okay with the idea, but many Carnegie Vanguard parents do not like the idea at all and are vehemently against it. Why can't HISD simply rebuild Carnegie where it is and then rebuild Worthing off of 288?
