Lots and lots of cars have hit the train, but in the Summer there were two strangely close together incidents of buses hitting the train. One happened smack dab in front of the Metro administration building.

Not to be confused with the nearby Manvel Town Center... City page for project: http://cityofmanvel.com/454/Manvel-Municipal-and-Athletic-Center-MAC Feasibility report from December 2022: http://cityofmanvel.com/DocumentCenter/View/2159/Manvel-Sports-Complex-Feasibility-Report-PDF?bidId= https://communityimpact.com/houston/pearland-friendswood/development/2023/04/17/city-on-the-rise-manvel-focuses-on-infrastructure-growth-as-population-soars/ "Finally, city officials highlighted a proposed future downtown area adjacent to Valencia that would feature a new city hall and main city service buildings and an expansive sports complex. The 160-acre area would feature a series of multiuse sports fields alongside retail space for hotels, an amphitheater and other community spaces, according to a Dec. 5 feasibility study for the project. The study, conducted by The Sports Facilities Advisory for architecture design client PGAL, shows an estimated investment of $63.9 million from the city for the complex, which has no stated timeline yet. Current council officials touted the project as an opportunity to create a sports tourism destination that will attract visitors from across the state, boosting the local economy and providing a walkable downtown space for current residents. Davison said the project, which had its design recently approved and may see ground work start in the summer, is facing some criticism from citizens and council candidates."

Houston Community College unveils disaster-mitigation initiative, plans $30M flood-simulation training center https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2022/04/26/houston-community-college-disaster-resiliency-plan.html Houston Community College's new Resiliency Initiative will include a $30 million flood-simulation center and a disaster mitigation curriculum to train first responders, businesses and community members to prepare for catastrophic events, the school announced April 26. This plan has been in the works for five years, since Hurricane Harvey hit Houston in 2017 and flooded 200,000 homes while causing $73.5 billion in property destruction and loss of output, HCC said. The focal point of the initiative is the $30 million Resiliency Operations Center, which will be a 5-acre training space on HCC's Northeast Campus near the East Freeway and 610 Loop. Engineering plans are slated to be complete in September, and construction is expected to last from 18 to 22 months.

Went to Houston Baptist University today to visit the Lee and Grant exhibit. http://www.hbu.edu/hbu/About_HBU.asp?SnID=141925366 http://www.hbu.edu/hbu/MOSH_Lee_Grant_Exhibit.asp To be honest, I was not aware that this campus even existed until I looked up where the exhibit was located. I'm not from here originally. They would not let me take any photos of the exhibit. Pissed me off because this was the reason why I took my camera. So, afterwards I walked around this small campus and took some photos of the buildings. (the campus is located in the middle of the triangle created by the intersections of Beechnut, Fondren and I-59) Here they are: http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3197.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3196.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3195.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3194.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3193.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3192.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3191.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3189.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3188.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3186.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3185.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3184.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3183.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3182.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3181.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3179.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3180.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3178.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3177.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/issaaa/Houston Baptist University 7-09/IMG_3176.jpg Adios

Hey, I've been a guest to this site for a year or two now so i decided i'd finally join. Anyway, I browsed through the topics but i didn't see this topic discussed. But what is the huge building being built on the Allen Pkwy just west of downtown? Where the "new" jefferson davis hospital stood? I heard it was going to be a US Mint, but thought that may just be a rumor? anyone know?

Howdy all, This is my second post here, been lurking for a while. So, if this is a double post please forgive, I searched a bit but nothing turned up Houston Community College Central is constructing a few new buildings in the midtown area, and performing a much-needed renovation of the San Jacinto Memorial Building among others on the campus. 1300 Holman Street. The renovation seems to be throwing out parking space in exchange for a nice green space in front of SJAC. The most prominent new construction is the Learning Hub, which will house their technology and science classes. http://learning.cc.hccs.edu/future/ http://learning.cc.hccs.edu/future/future.swf In my opinion, the Learning Hub resembles an ice cube sitting on the historic SJAC building's front lawn. I have mixed feelings about it, and am questioning whether it fits in with the area. What are your thoughts and opinions on the construction? Are our bonds going to good use?

Anyone know the story on the proposed Harris County Jail that was defeated in the bond election last November? Apparently it would have covered much of the north bank of the bayou downtown... so much so that the Buffalo Bayou Partnership's planned trail would have had to veer away from the bayou and circle around the building. So is it dead for good, or only postponed? And why are we lining Buffalo Bayou with jails anyway? Don't most counties put jails in out-of-the-way locations? As in, not the city's main waterfront?

The Houston Chronicle has an article about this: http://search.chron.com/chronicle/openDocu...p;selectedPath= The new Pershing Middle School campus will open on Wednesday, January 17, 2006. Pershing, a Houston ISD school, serves the cities of Southside Place, West University Place, and Bellaire as well as sections of Houston around the areas, such as Braeswood Place, Southgate, Old Braeswood, Westwood, and a sliver of Meyerland. The kids were allowed to tag the old 1948 campus with graffiti (such as "Name" was here).
