So many long gone malls in the Houston area some I got to experience before they went away. Anyone remember these shopping centers when they were “malls” exterior/interior color and style would be appreciated

I remember one of the department stores in The Gulfgate Mall having a made of wood place where they hung blue jeans. I remember thinking how cool it was. It was during the 1970s. It really looked 70s style too. It kind of reminded me of something that came out of a television series or sitcom from the 1970s. I wish that was still there in The Gulfgate Mall. So many memories are not there anymore, how sad!

In the latest round of Sears that are closing, Sears' parent company, Sears Holdings, has announced that the Baybrook store is next on the chopping block (while the Mall of the Mainland location continues to survive). The Sears at Baybrook has been there in its current location since the mall opened in 1978. Despite never going to Sears, it's still kinda sad. Does anyone have memories of this Sears? Supposedly there used to be a McDonald's inside, but I wasn't sure if it was true.

Hi, I've noticed that Willowbrook Mall recently tore down what used to be Lord & Taylor. There's a sign that reads "FUTURE COURT." Does anyone know what Future Court is or will be? Please reply.....

I grabbed these from the 1983 made-for-tv movie "Adam". it's YouTube quality, but there's some entirely decent nostalgia to be had. I found the last black and white pic in an ebay auction listing from the Baltimore Sun, of all places. Enjoy!

I was born on June 13, 1972 in Houston Texas! I was born and raised in Houston Texas (I still live in Houston Texas), but I have traveled a lot though. My grandfather (my mother's stepfather) died on Friday October 02, 2009 and my grandmother (my mother's mother) died on November 15, 2011 (I believe that is the correct date). But all my grandparents has passed away. Let's get started on my topic! I remember going to the Gulfgate Movie Theater in the 1970s and the 1980s, and I remember the stain glassed window (pardon my grammar and spelling), does anyone remember that beautiful stain glassed window? I also remember that fun video game with the race cars at the Gulfgate Movie Theater, too. I do remember going to the Women Restroom in the Gulfgate Movie Theater and remember that neat tile work throughout the Gulfgate Movie Theater too. And in the Women Restroom they had a sink and a place to wash your hands in the stall (pardon my spelling, again). How about that neat orange round couch or sofa in the middle of the lobby, where you can look at that beautiful stain glassed window while sitting on that circlar sofa/couch. I remember a lot of beautiful and neat stuff from the Gulfgate Movie Theater. How about when you drove on I-45 and you could see the Carousel Hotel/Motel Sign? That was a very neat sign, in my opinion. I miss seeing that sign, now. All these things reminds me of my mother's parents (my grandparents). I was especially close to my grandfather (my mother's stepfather). We spent every waking hour with each other. He was such a good man! I also remember Peppermint Park, too. I didn't realize that Peppermint Park was located in the Gulfgate Area. I remember seeing both the 1970s movie 10 with Dudley Moore and the 1970s movie Saturday Fever with John Travolta at the Gulfgate Movie Theater. We stop going to the Gulfgate Movie Theater in the mid-1980s or the late-1980s, because the Gulfgate Movie Theater got to be a danger place. A lot of scary people hangout there.

I just read about a mall called Deauville Fashion Mall! http://www.levcor.com/Internal.aspx?sSecti...tudies&Id=6 It was near Baybrook Mall, was anchored by a theatre and a hardware store, lasted from 1984-1992, and had space for 40 stores, but had 12 stores when it closed. Anyone have more information?

Just came across this info on the new plans for the Sharpstown Mall property: Monday, December 21, 2009, 12:37pm CST

Sharpstown Center to be PlazAmericas Houston Business Journal Sharpstown Center will get a new face and name as part of a $10 million revitalization and rebranding plan. The property’s owner, Sharpstown Mall Texas LLC, and its manager, Grupo Zocalo, a subsidiary of Houston-based Boxer Property Management Corp., plan to rename the center PlazAmericas to reflect the area’s community. Sharpstown Mall opened in 1961 as Houston’s first enclosed mall, and has since gone through periods of ownership changes, bankruptcy and neighborhood issues. Revitilization plans include huge children’s play area and an 83,000-square-foot mercado (marketplace) that will have multiple stages for live entertainment, a large family lounge and play area.

Am I mistaken or did the Sharpstown Mall recently disappear? I went down to Sears there last week and wondered why the parking lot was empty. It looks like it recently changed into the Southwest Corporate Center or something like that and Sears is the only retail tenant left. I didn't hear anything about this and was surprised when I noticed. What's the story?
