So, I was talking to some coworkers today, and we got off on the topic of the flag on top of our building. One of the guys that had been there for many many years informed us that the US flag on the top of the building was once MUCH MUCH larger than it is today....he said that, in fact it used to drape over the building and cover up the windows of the 43rd and 42nd floors when the wind wasn't blowing. As to why we have a smaller flag now...well apparently when the wind was blowing at a good clip and 'ol glory was pulled out taut, it created so much force that it damaged the top 3 stories of the building that the pole mounts down through. The American General CEO flew the huge flag that he wanted, even though the engineers had told him it was a no no. Personally, I think the flag should be double or triple its current size....the mass of the building makes it look kinda puny.

The Houston Methodist Smith Tower was designed by Lloyd Jones & Brewers and was commercially developed by Century Development (and Hines?) and was named after Robert Smith. Here's a photo I took today.

The Parklane apartment tower was originally built as condos, but amid the 80's oil crash, they decided to go rental. "But as Houston’s demand for condo properties has increased, returning The Parklane to its original purpose seemed like a prime opportunity..." Sales will begin mid-June. https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2020/06/01/tema-development-parklane-apartments-condos.html?ana=e_me_prem&j=90511812&t=Morning B&mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTmpSaU9EQmxaVEJpWm1VeCIsInQiOiI0djU5Mjd6aEdCT1R6V2RrODNxV1YwcDFkRHRYcGtvVG1qU0UwYm01bTd2XC9NOHM4Y2pBaDFRNVZ3WisrRFJDcnoyQkRJVkFYbGxFeGV0SDB4VkcxSTdUTkd0cUtwU255ZE5LUUMwREZHVCtLdkdGZUxZcFF5NnY2bTltVXhRYWoifQ%3D%3D http://www.theparklane.com/

Hey all, We went on a driving tour of memorial yesterday. Sad state of affairs out there! 328 Buckingham is now gone, and 843 Friar Tuck is probably right behind. Had a good time though other than that... Here's 843 Friar Tuck - real bad shape. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v729/clockwatchers/DSC00464.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v729/clockwatchers/DSC00465.jpg By Ben Koush from the 2005 RDA tour (it was on the peripheral drive by only tour) 328 Buckingham Drive Liese House Lloyd & Morgan 1954 By the 1950s Lloyd & Morgan was known mostly for their commercial buildings. However, they continued to design a small number of houses for select clients. The gracious design of the Liese House was one of Hermon Lloyd

I've been researching a few things and I can't seem to find out the history of this building (even on here!) and was wondering if anyone had any clue about it? What was it before? Also was wondering if there was any truth of a rumor (I say more like grumbling) about a new HPD building might be in the works.

We have enjoyed staying at these condos and are looking at purchasing one. The prices are pretty shocking, and apparently have risen dramatically over the last year or two. They are sold privately, so there is no advice coming from a real estate agent. Does anyone have a feel for whether these are realistic prices: 2/2 1014 sq ft $495,000 3/3 1732 sq ft $675,000 I should note that these are asking prices and once a buyer and seller are connected, they negotiate the selling price.
