Howdy HAIF Family. Here's a newly-created Discussion Mega-Thread on the No. 1 TV News station in the Lone Star State: ABC 13 KTRK-TV Houston. We get right off the bat with news that Elyse Smith will be joining ABC 13 KTRK-TV Houston. According to Alan Pergament of the Buffalo News, ABC 13 hadn't told the person that Smith is replacing the person in question which brings a guessing game on which one of the meteorologists is likely heading for the exits. Tom Koch is retiring from Ch. 13 KTRK-TV Houston after 39 years with the ABC O&O Station he announced at the end of yesterday's weekday morning newscast. His final newscast will be on May 28th. "For nearly 40 years, I've been honored & humbled that so many people welcomed me into their homes every day," Koch said in a statement emailed to mikemcguff.com. "It's been a dream come true for a small-town Wisconsin kid to be part of this incredible station & truly great city of Houston. But I've decided it's time to step aside, turn off that early morning alarm & wake up to a new adventure." The station tells Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com the week of May 24th, will be featuring an on-air celebration featuring Koch & his many achievements will begin, with a final goodbye on May 28th, 2021. Yesterday, Weekday Traffic Anchor Katherine Whaley left Ch. 13 to spend time with her family. But something tells me we'll see her back on TV in a few years. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com is reporting that after 22 years with the ABC O&O Station, sports anchor Bob Slovak (whom I strongly felt was wrongly passed over for the Sports Director job a few years back) is leaving Ch. 13 KTRK-TV Houston's sports department after more than two decades. Slovak joined Ch. 13 in 1998 as the sports reporter alongside longtime Houston sports anchors Tim Melton & the late Bob Allen. In 2013, when Melton suffered a stroke & had to retire from the TV biz, Slovak moved from sports reporter to weekend sports anchor. Before coming to Ch. 13, Slovak worked at KNXV-TV Phoenix, AZ, KOTV-TV Tulsa, OK, KFDM-TV Beaumont, TX & KTEN-TV Ada, OK. Native of Dallas, Slovak graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. Slovak's final day with Ch. 13 is going to be in a few weeks, so stay tuned for when that occurs.

Beloved Ch. 13 reporter Deborah Wrigley is leaving the ABC O&O Station on September 4th according to Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com & other social media. "Deborah is an icon of broadcasting & a true journalist Houstonians will always remember," News Director Rehan Aslam said in an internal memo obtained by mikemcguff.com. "We wanted to thank Deborah for her countless stories that made such an impact on thousands & thousands of people. She served our city & our communities with grace & professionalism." Sad news from the Ch. 13 Eyewitness News family. Photojournalist Willie Dixon died last night at the age of 52. He joined the ABC O&O station in 2006 from WFTV in Orlando, FL. It's been 16 days & nobody hasn't seen or heard from Ch. 13 KTRK-TV Houston Weekday Morning Anchor Samica Knight, who hasn't been on the air in weeks, nor has she posted to her Social Media accounts since January 7th. According to Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com, he also hadn't heard anything regarding Knight's whereabouts. McGuff also mentioned several Ch. 13 viewers had been emailing him, hitting him up with questions from those concerned about Knight's whereabouts. From what I can tell, Brhe Berry & Mayra Moreno had been filing-in for Knight on the weekday morning newscasts lately. This isn't the first time Knight has been missing from the Ch. 13 airwaves. Tom Koch & Melanie Lawson celebrated their 37 year anniversaries with Ch. 13, both beginning their careers with the Houston ABC O&O Station on September 17th, 1982. Gina Gaston is celebrating 25 years with Ch. 13: beginning her first stint in 1992 as the Weekday Morning Anchor with Koch & later anchored with MSNBC NYC, NY St in 1999. She later returned to Ch. 13 in 2001, where she's been ever since. Unless some of y'all have been living under a rock or a secret beach retreat in the West Coast, Ch. 13 brought in Brheanna Berry to join the ABC O&O Station back in early February. She came from News 3 WTKR-TV Norfolk, VA (she had been there since August of 2017). Plus Berry worked with KELO-TV Sioux Falls, SD as the Morning Anchor/Reporter from March 2016 to 2017; she was also the station's heathbeat reporter. She began her TV News career at KLFY-TV News 10 Lafayette, LA as the Weekend Anchor/Reporter/Multimedia Journalist from November 2014 to March 2016. Ch. 13 Reporter Christine Dobbyn is leaving the Houston ABC O&O Station after nearly 14 years... According to mikemcguff.com & the Houston Chronicle, Dobbyn said on Twitter that she's hanging up "my reporting cleats" to pursue a new chapter in life. From what McGuff heard, Dobbyn's "new chapter in life" doesn't include the TV Biz. Plus in her LinkedIn profile, she's in the middle of getting a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Rice University's Jones Graduate School of Business. Dobbyn has been with Ch. 13 since 2005 & before she came to Houston, she was Reporter & back-up Anchor at WBNS-TV Columbus, OH. She got her start in the TV Biz at WEHT-TV Evansville, IN, where Dobbyn worked as Reporter & back-up Anchor. She also made it to the finals of Miss IN; also held titles like Indianapolis 500 Princess & Miss Heart of IN.
