  4. On Tuesday, March 21st, 2006, KinkaidAlum posted: "The antenna at One Shell Plaza reaches to around 1,000 feet. There are several photos on emporis.com that show the antenna to reach almost the exact same height as Wells Fargo. The one building that has always confused me is the St Luke's Medical Tower. It's official height is listed at 316 feet. Apparently, the needle spires aren't counted in the height, but even without them, 316 feet seems way too short. Especially when you consider that the nearby Marriott Hotel is listed at 265 feet. There's NO WAY St Luke's is only 51 feet taller than the Marriott even without the spires!" I checked this out from multiple angles tonight. The question is not whether or not St Luke's is over 316 feet; it is whether or not (including spires) it is under or over 440'. With the spires I am certain that it is no shorter than the recent Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza. Edit: skyscraperpage and E______ both quote 316/25st., but Baylor College of Medicine says 29 storeys. The architect's website doesn't indicate one way or the other, saying only, "The Tower is a sophisticated, state-of-the-art medical facility and teaching hospital which captures the spirit and character of Houston and the adjacent Texas Medical Center. Twin octagonal towers respond to this dual frontage and help define the urban environment. The circular roofs and spires bring each tower to a dynamic terminus." There's a nice picture, though, of St Luke's as the only building visible from Hermann Park. A much more personable presence than the hulking Memorial Hermann.
  5. https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2023/09/08/kelsey-seybold-cypress-expansion-renovation.html "The new building will be 120,000 square feet and will include space for an ambulatory surgery center, Kelsey-Seybold said Sept. 7. When all construction projects are complete, the campus will include a five-story building and will have space for 40 providers in a variety of specialties, including comprehensive adult and pediatric care. The expansion will allow for a bigger on-site Kelsey Pharmacy and additional diagnostic imaging and testing services The entire Northwest Campus at 19926 Northwest Freeway is planned to open in fall 2024. A Kelsey-Seybold spokesperson confirmed two Houston-based companies were tapped for the new building project: Powers Brown Architecture and Gamma Construction."
  6. wow! I had no idea this was here! I thought there was a K&L clinic a long the side of Fannin Street? The information was found on the 1955 Sanborn Map and the Texas State Journal of Medicine, Volume 51, Number 7, July 1955. 10. One of the founders of Kelsey Seybold lived in a fancy River Oaks estate at 2136 Brentwood Drive. It's now a City of Houston protected landmark. https://www.houstontx.gov/planning/HistoricPres/landmarks/07L174_Dr_Mavis_P_Kelsey_Sr_House_2136_Brentwood.pdf The Dr. Mavis P. Kelsey , Sr., House at 2136 Brentwood Drive was built in 1940. It is an impressive example of the Greek Revival style home, built as a speculative house by C. C. Rouse in River Oaks. It was first occupied by the Wollmer family. The home was later owned and inhabited by Dr. Mavis P. Kelsey, Sr., for many years. Dr. Kelsey is most notable as the founder of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. The original cost summary prepared by C. C. Rouse and dated October 9, 1940 estimated the cost of building at $11,486. Records show that the actual cost was $12,241. The home’s first owners, the Wollmar family, purchased the home for $24,500. The sale was made by George P. Wright of the River Oaks Corporation. https://spencerhoward.net/portfolio_item/brentwood-residence

  12. When I was shooting progress at the Gateway at Spring Valley project, I noticed a sign for a building of similar size called 1001 Campbell just across the road. Couldn't find much about it online. Most refers to a project being developed by Lincoln Property, but with a different design. This is the only one I see at present with the rendering on the sign: https://www.vts.com/spaces/1001-campbell-1001-campbell-rd-3rd-floor-suite-300 http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w208/houtosme/DSC04232_zpsa7hhlskz.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w208/houtosme/DSC04242_zpszdnnhb79.jpg

Berthelsen, M.D., F.A.C.P., Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic (left) and Pearland Mayor Tom Reid. Posted: Friday, June 29, 2012 2:29 pm By JIM MOLONY Construction has started on Kelsey-Seybold’s new administration building at an 18-acre site at the northeast corner of Kirby Drive and Shadow Creek Parkway in Pearland. City and Kelsey-Seybold officials were on site last Wednesday for the official ground breaking on the $21 million project, which will include a 170,000 square feet building and eventually mean 800-1,200 jobs in Pearland. “We’re excited to be moving our administrative offices here,” Spencer R. Berthelsen, M.D., F.A.C.P. Chairman of the Board and Managing DirectorKelsey-Seybold Clinic, told The Journal. “I think Pearland is a very good fit for us, a lot of our employees already live in the area and we have a lot of patients that live out here.” Mayor Tom Reid welcomed Kelsey-Seybold officials to the community. “I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for Pearland to have a world renowned medical association like Kelsey-Seybold in the community,” Reid said. “I am delighted to have them here in Pearland. “I’ve been a long-time admirer of Kelsey-Seybold. I met Dr. Seybold many years ago and as we both served in the military around the same time we shared stories of that. It’s a pleasure to see the firm that he started coming to Pearland, it’s a great thing for our city.” The facility is expected to be completed during the summer of 2013. Kelsey-Seybold officials cited geographic location, a talented pool of workers locally and the efforts of the city to work with the firm on the project among the reasons Pearland was selected. “Mayor Tom Reid and (City Manager) Bill Eisen have been very proactive in helping bring this project along and I want to thank them as well as the people of Pearland,” Berthelsen said. “They made it very easy for us to be a part of the community.” The facility, which will have entrances in the 11500 block of Shadow Creek Parkway (across from Nolan Ryan Junior High) and on Kirby Drive, backs up against a wooded area and will have ample parking. “We wanted to take advantage of the natural landscaping,” Ro explained. The new administrative offices will support Kelsey-Seybold’s 370 physicians providing primary care and specialty care at 20 clinic locations throughout the region, including two already in operation in Pearland. “Initially this will hold 800 employees with a capacity for 1,200,” Kelsey-Seybold’s Nicholas Ro said. The facility was designed by Powers Brown Architecture and is being built by E.E. Reed Construction, L.P. TGB Crosswell, formerly CG Commercial Development, developed the property and coordinated the sale with CG-Shadow Creek Ranch Village, L.P., owner of the Shadow Creek Ranch commercial site. TGB Crosswell Managing Partners Allen Crosswell and Tod Greenwood, and Director of Construction Stan Beard, worked on the sale. Thad Armstrong of Thompson & Knight LLP provided legal representation for Kelsey-Seybold on all aspects of the project.
