  1. That's a funny story. Does anyone remember the Delman theater at Main and Wheeler? It burnt down a couple of years ago. It was boarded up but I think for a while you could get in the front area at least. It looked and smelled so bad it wasn't worth it though.
  2. Does ANYONE have info on this movie house? Its on jensen drive...just south of Tidwell. It looks like it mightve been a big deal...back when the neighborhood in that area maybe wasnt so ghetto. Its locked up. Been boarded up for years: anyone ever remember going there? How old is it? It looks like an old style movie palace...relatively speaking...at least from the outside.
  3. There's been a lot of interest in preserving River Oaks Plaza, River Oaks Theater and the Alabama Theater buildings. I hope that the same attention will be given to the Tower Theater, on Westheimer. IMO it's just as worthy of preservation.
  4. http://www.city-data...-forgotten.html While looking at sevfiv's theater map/list above post #222, I ran across the Wayside theater. Don't recall ever seeing that one, growing up. Good pics on the link above, includes Eastwood, Wayside, other good ones.
  5. Does anybody know the story on the abandoned building about 3800 N. Main? Who owns it, any proposed construction? It's been sitting there for a while and I was wondering if there were any plans for it.
  6. The Eastwood Theater in Near East End of downtown. Now just a patch or fake man-made hillside with grass. You would have to have seen the classic photos of this beauty to appreciate it. Again, only Bob Bailey has captured its original splendor in pictures. The McClendon Triple Drive-In Theaters in far South Main...just a rusty old flea market/field or junk yard? and how can we not mention The Shamrock Hotel? Ok, who has some Prozac?
  7. Palace Theatre At 807-811 Texas Ave. This is an earlier second Majestic Theatre in the city, which opened on February 21, 1910 as a vaudeville theatre, with movies as part of the program. It was built by Karl St. John Hoblitzelle for his Interstate Theatres Inc. circuit.
