I was dismayed to find out that Huntsville's Cafe Texan, long a landmark of the downtown area, is no more after 83 years in business. Both the maternal and paternal sides of my family hail from deep East Texas, and I've eaten many meals at the Texan over the years on the way to visit relatives, attend weddings and funerals, and so on. Texas loses a landmark to COVID-19 The headline is somewhat misleading - although COVID was certainly a significant factor in its closure, it appears the owner either got some bad advice or didn't realize the code-related ramifications that would result from having the water turned off. Either way, it's disappointing that the city wasn't willing to compromise a bit more to avoid closure, considering the tremendous financial stress that the pandemic has already placed on businesses. Perhaps there's more to the story than what's been disclosed here.

Thought the topic was worthy of it's own thread. The BSA announced the sale of the camp in September. Curious to see what “develops” in the future of Camp Strake. The Courier article: http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/courier/news/conroe-mayor-excited-about-camp-strake-development/article_8d1a921b-d2d7-59d9-be7c-728cf6f72276.html

I am a graduate student at SHSU, and I've noticed a few quite large construction projects going on around campus. The one large enough to cause a furor in some places in Houston in the South Residential Complex, which I snapped a few pictures of today. Though doing some research I found some renderings and pictures. (http://www.shsu.edu/dept/facilities-management/south-residential-complex.html) My pictures are of a much more finished structure.

Anyone remember or attend the Texas Prison Rodeo up in Huntsville? I was a little young at the time I guess, but I heard stories over the years that it was quite a show.
