  4. Houston Sports Radio is undergoing another shake-up. Longtime On-Air Talent & native Houstonian Lance Zierlein has decided NOT to renew his contract with KBME-AM (790 Houston) & announced it on Tuesday of this week. He's been a fixture of Houston Sports Radio for 20 years will be leaving KBME-AM later this year to focus on duties with NFL.com & other future projects. Zierlein, who has had the top-ranked Sports Talk Shows in the Space City since 1997 on KILT-AM (Sports Radio 610), KGOW (1560 AM), & KBME (where he's currently with since 2011), the latter with co-host Matt Thomas, said he's ready for a break from the grinding of morning radio & will leave the iHeartRadio station on good terms with station management. "They offered me a contract, & as time progressed I realized I was a little tired of doing morning radio & getting early wake-up calls," he said. "Since I'm doing the NFL, I decided to step away from radio." http://www.chron.com/sports/article/Lance-Zierlein-to-leave-KBME-11217366.php Like to know your personal thoughts on Zierlein leaving KBME-AM's morning radio show. A.) Like It: He needs a fresh challenge in life. B.) Hate It.
  5. Since coming back to Houston, Josh Innes has seen the ratings of his afternoon drive show on KMBE (790 AM): according to the Houston Chronicle, they reported the afternoon host has seen a noticeable audience uptick in the February book, posting the first month-to-month increase of his tenure there. Innes currently remains 3rd in the time slot among sports stations, & he will require at least 4 more months of comparable growth to gain back what KMBE had lost in that time slot since his arrival, but anything's possible. http://www.chron.com/sports/article/Josh-Innes-radio-ratings-increase-in-February-11020426.php Thoughts on Innes' afternoon drive show's ratings & audience increase ? A.) Love It B.) Hate It C.) Too Soon to Tell
  6. Not only is Sam Malone the host of AM 1070 The Answer KNTH, he's also doing video & radio production as well. Any thoughts ? http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2015/03/sam-malone-512-new-media.html http://512newmedia.com/
  7. According to Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com, 93Q KKBQ's new billboard on Interstate Loop 610 across from NRG Stadium has alerted everyone on the fact it's almost Rodeo Houston time. It's going to be a war between The New 93Q & The New Bull 100.3 KILT on who can out-country radio the other during the rodeo. Reaction from anyone else on this development? http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2015/02/93q-says-its-almost-rodeo-houston-time.html?m=1

  9. Houston Chronicle reporting KCOH, which bills itself as the oldest black-formatted radio station in Texas, is in the midst of upheaval less than 2 years after changing its frequency of 6 decades. In the latest twist, Ben Hall-former Houston mayoral candidate, who recently announced his 2nd campaign for Houston Mayor with self-financed ads already airing -may have control of the historic radio station during his 2015 campaign. KCOH, which began broadcasting in 1953 at 1430 AM, has been a key outlet for news & talk for Houston's African American residents. Now, a partnership between Hall & his wife, Saundra, has exercised an option to buy the land & building from which KCOH now operates on 1230 AM "with all the contents," according to Hall. http://www.chron.com/ http://www.kcoh.com/ Reaction from anyone on this development?
  10. In case y'all didn't know, J.P. Pritchard, the former News 92 FM KROI & NewsRadio 740 KTRH morning anchor J.P. 11. For anyone, who's been listening to 100.3 KILT over the years, it appears that Greg Thunder is no longer with the station which CBS Radio confirmed to mikemcguff.com. Listeners started reporting to McGuff that Thunder wasn't on air this week & there wasn't any mention of him being on vacation. Plus, his information had also been pulled from the station's website. He's been doing solo since co-host Corey Foley left KILT last April. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/11/greg-thunder-leaves-new-bull-1003-kilt.html?m=1 Reaction from anyone on this development?
  12. 93Q KKBQ skyrocketed all the way towards #1 in ratings (12 +) earlier this year & now the Houston country music radio station received some big honors. Owner Cox Media Group announced the New 93Q was named 2014 Major Market Station of the Year at the 2014 National Association of Broadcasters' Marconi Radio Awards. The awards were announced on Thursday night at the annual NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show held during the Radio Show in Indianapolis, Ind., http://www.thenew93q.com/ http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-new-93q-kkbq-wins-marconi-award-for.html?m=1 Reaction from anyone regarding this achievement by KKBQ 93Q ?
  13. Craig Shelton of Houston Media Watch Blog, reported that while Lance Zierlein was "filing in" for Charlie Pallilo on one of the station's talk shows, one of the callers asked Lance if Houston Chronicle's John McClain had filed a complaint to the NFL about Texans RB Arian Foster. Following the caller's questions, Lance immediately rebuffed the incident, saying that the caller was wrong (code for being stupid) and there are things out there, which aren't correct. Shelton reports, that Lance had went on to say that Brian T. Smith (one of the Chronicle employees) reported that it was wrong information. McClain even confirmed that he reported Foster twice and will continue to do so. Shelton also says that Zierlein is hell-bent on discrediting HMW because in Lance's view, he believes he's the smartest person in the room. http://sheltonmedia.blogspot.com/2014/08/lance-zierlein-busted-coverage-on-john.html Reaction or thoughts ?
  14. Houston Chronicle is reporting newly acquired Texans media contributor John Harris will be replacing Rich Lord as sideline reporter for the football team's radio broadcasts this fall, Texans broadcasting director Marc Vandermeer said Thursday. Harris, the former KGOW (1560 AM) and Yahoo!Sports Radio host who signed on recently as a contributor to the team's website and broadcast properties, will join play-by-play announcer Vandermeer on the team's radio network. Analyst Andre Ware also is expected to return to the radio network, which includes flagship KILT(610 AM). Lord, a longtime KILT talk show host, was the second station employee to hold the sideline reporter's job. Former KILT talk show host John Granato held the job from 2002-2006. This will be the first time in the team's history that the on-air radio game broadcast crew will be made up entirely of broadcasters not employed by KILT. Vandermeer said the decision was "no reflection" on Lord (YEAH RIGHT) but an effort to boost Harris' profile with the Texans broadcast group. "John Harris is going to be a big part of what we are doing on radio, TV and the website," Vandermeer said. Any reaction to these new developments?
  15. The Houston Chronicle's David Barron has reported this story: Josh Innes, the polarizing but popular co-host of the afternoon drive-time show on KILT since December 2010, has left the station for a similar position in Philadelphia and will be replaced in January by longtime KGOW host Sean Pendergast. Pendergast, who has worked for KGOW (1560 AM) since the station launched in 2007, will join Rich Lord on KILT's afternoon drive show beginning on January 3rd, said KILT program director Ryan McCredden. Innes will begin work that same day at WIP-FM, one of the country's longest-running sports-talk radio stations. His final show on KILT (610 AM) was Thursday. Innes, who had been at KILT since December 2009, said he was leaving Houston because of the challenge of working in a hard-core sports market like Philadelphia and because he no longer wanted to work alongside Lord. "The main reason I decided not to stay here is that I didn't want to do that show with Rich anymore," he said. "I don't really like him. I'm not going to say that I'll miss him or that he's a friend of mine." Innes, however, had high praise for his other KILT co-workers and for McCredden and former CBS Radio Houston executives Brian Purdy and Gavin Spittle, who hired him for his first major-market radio job. http://blog.chron.com/sportsupdate/2013/12/josh-innes-leaving-kilt-for-job-in-philadelphia/ Any reactions from anyone on Innes leaving 610.
