  1. 4 buildings that were originally part of the wooded HP Campus in northwest Harris County on 249 are going to be redeveloped into corporate office buildings as part of a $100M, 44.5 acre project headed up by Macfarlan Capital Partners and Buchanan Street Partners. It is being marketed as the largest block of office space available for a corporate campus in Houston. The project, to be named the Centre at Cypress Creek will include: 3 interconnected 4-story office buildings and 1 computer manufacturing facility 630,000 sq ft of space 4 Parking Garages Complete in 2008 http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/5020331.html *This may have been the portion that UH was hoping to buy before having to postpone their plans for a NW Harris County campus.
  2. The new Main Event on 249 (near Regal theaters, formerly Silverado) is nearing completion. Given the considerable growth, the area has been lacking in amusement options. This should be a good addition to the area.
  3. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/5473590.html The replies are hilarious, too.
  4. When I was a young woman in the late 60s to mid 70s we used to frequent a country western bar and dance hall called Champions Ballroom. It was located on then Hwy. 149 now called 249. The address was 14005 W. Montgomery Rd. Looking at Google maps it would have been right where the Firestone tire store and the Lone Star Title Loan store is located. When you view it from above you can see the remainder of a concrete slab behind and between the two stores. That is what is left of the dance hall area. There was a lot of parking area in the front of the building. Are there any older kickers out there they used to haunt this place or possible remember it? I have many fond memories from that era.
  5. My first post. Does anyone know what is going up by the Cathholic Church on 249 near cypresswood? Also, I wonder who bought the land by the welding supply on Perry Road? I have lived in this area 40 years and have enjoyed watching the progress!
  6. more clear cutting. Hotel? 249 at Perry
  7. I couldn't find an actual topic on SH 249 (Tomball parkway) and its expansion up to ~ Navasota. So here's some background for anyone interested: HCTRA expanded SH249 to Tomball as Phase 1 of a multi-phase extension of SH249. This was completed and opened in 2015. https://hctra.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=527d9322e2244039b0bc3e93fe2c4fc1 The plan is for SH249 to ultimately terminate at SH 105 roughly close to Navasota, hence the nickname the "Aggie Tollway" or "Aggie Highway". This extension seems to be broken up between the Houston TxDOT office and the Bryan TxDOT office. The Houston office is over the section from the current terminus to Todd's Mission. http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/projects/studies/houston/sh249-extension.html The Bryan office is over the section from Todd's Mission to ~ Navasota... well actually SH 105 east of Navasota and west of Plantersville / Stoneham. http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/projects/studies/bryan/sh249.html However, it seems as if there is "significant" local opposition to the last segment of the project from Todd's Mission to SH 105: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/transportation/article/Texas-249-growth-proceeding-despite-vocal-6234179.php http://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/2015/05/01/59957/txdot-to-move-ahead-with-249-toll-road-despite-local-opposition-2/ https://communityimpact.com/houston/news/2015/12/11/txdot-holds-public-meeting-on-updated-hwy-249-extension-plan/ Here are two more recent articles as well: https://www.texastribune.org/2016/07/03/grimes-county-residents-turn-out-against-toll-road/ https://www.texastribune.org/2016/07/21/rural-land-owner-preps-sue-state-transportation-de/

  9. So they're opening the new 249 toll road this Sunday. My question is, who paid for the old section of the new toll road where the signs have been posted for years stating "Future Toll Road" around 2920? Are we going to be charged to drive on a toll road that was built with TXDOT funds?
  10. Excited to see one of my all-time favorite Houston area restaurants opening up out here! Churrasco's will open a new restaurant next to P.F. Chang's on 249: http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2014/07/churrascos-to-open-fifth-houston-area-location.html
  11. Looks like there's a new Rudy's going on on the west side of 249 just north of Northpointe, across the highway from the Silverado theater. More barbecue is never a bad thing...
  12. Looks like there will be more offices built pretty soon. Check it out... www.beltwaylakes.com
  13. I drove by this location today and noticed a building going up. It's southeast of the intersection of the beltway and 249. I might be wrong, but it looked like 5 or 6 floors were built already. Anyone know what it is or how many more floors, if any are going be added?
  14. What is going up between Lubys and Los Cucos? Can't find info anywhere....
  15. The company is relocating this summer. I currently do the 610-I45-BW8 commute to the Gunspoint area. I45N is no problem in the mornings as I leave at 7am, but southbound in the afternoon is unpredictable. I can continue this route and get to the new location via 8W to 249N, or try 610-290-BW8 east and then 249N. Only a couple of miles difference between the I45 and 290 routes. How is 290 outbound in the morning and 290 inbound afternoon compared to I45?
  16. http://impactnews.com/articles/improvements-to-hwy.-249-and-beltway-8-interchange-slated-for-2013/ Final designs on an estimated $11.8 million direct connector between Hwy. 249 south and Beltway 8 west is on track to begin in late 2013 or early 2014. The project—part of the Harris County Toll Road Authority’s capital improvement plan—is scheduled to be completed in 2015 and is entirely funded by HCTRA, according to Patti Evans, communications manager. While only about $17,000 of the nearly $500,000 in engineering costs has been provided as of January, the Texas Department of Transportation expects the project to be fully funded by the end of October. “Currently, southbound Hwy. 249 [traffic] wishing to enter the westbound tollway must exit to the Hwy. 249 frontage road, turn at the signaled intersection and enter [beltway 8] via a tolled entrance ramp,” Evans said. “We are in the final design stage of the project, and expect design to be complete this summer.” The direct connector will be tolled to provide direct access between southbound Hwy. 249 and westbound Beltway 8, allowing motorists to bypass tolled entrance ramps, Evans said. Since the project will tie in with the state highway system, TxDOT will be involved with specific design and environmental documentation reviews, according to Raquelle Lewis, TxDOT public information officer.
  17. Northwest Harris County residents have been screwed for years by inattentive/ineffective leaders including judges and congressmen who's inside dealings have ensured we get nothing unless it contains a toll-road element routed through land they or their buddies own an interest in. They've held things up for years to the point where residents are begging for anything to ease congestion (including a tollroad...funny how that works). Anyhow...it looks like they're finally going to get to work on this project. Hopefully, the greedy bastards at HCTA and the people at TXDoT will be smart enough to expand the freeway connector options DOWNSTREAM where 249 connects to the Beltway and finally turn 249 South of the Beltway into a freeway that merges into I-45 (though that would make too much sense for commuters). Here's the article: http://impactnews.co...ugh-partnership
  18. According to HBJ, the Lone Star College system plans to implode two former Compaq buildings in their University Park campus. The implosion will be on September 18th and will take up to six weeks of cleanup. Lone Star cites the need for more green space as the reason for the demolition. Does anyone know which buildings in particular are being imploded? HBJ doesn't really specify. HBJ link
  19. I noticed off of Highway 249 North between 1960 and Gessner that the Willowbrook Commons has been demolished. Has anyone heard or seen what will be going in place of the Willowbrook Commons????
  20. I noticed that construction has started at the old Circuit City off of 249 and 1960, has anyone heard what is going in that space?????
  21. Looks like Ruby Tequila's Mexican Kitchen is opening several locations in the Houston area, beginning with locations on FM 1960 near 249 (across from Willowbrook Mall) and another in Midtown. Ruby Tequila's is a popular chain of Tex-Mex restaurants based out of West Texas. Ruby Tequilas
  22. Saw the sign for Wolfie's today. It will be in the same strip center as Spec's and Valley Ranch on the Southeast corner of the 249/Spring Cypress intersection. It wouldn't be my first choice for a bar/grill, but the more restaurants the better. It's opening in October according to the website http://www.wolfiesusa.com/
  23. I noticed that they have cleared the land across from the intersection of SH249 and Holdrieth, has any heard or seen what they are planning on building?????
