The first in a series of new posts I hope to do after visiting the downtown archives, I didn't get a chance to do as much as I wanted but I did find this interesting. This article describes a 15,000 square foot grocery store located at Mason and 290, with the space being mentioned as Fairfield Village. With all this residential development going on downtown, it leaves me wondering if the retail will follow shortly after? Particularly grocery stores. To my knowledge, the closest thing to a full sized grocery store in downtown is Phoenicia. Randalls midtown is more or less close as well. When do you think a major grocer will consider moving into downtown? Who do you think will be the first one to make a move? Will it be as part of a mixed use development? I heard a "rumor" from a builder in the area that a new HEB was coming in or possible a remodel of the existing HEB of TC Jester. Anyone know anything about this?

Wulfe & Co. is trying to make the bottom floor of the Stowers building into a grocery store. Do you think it will make downtown a greater neighborhood or do we still need one of those urban design big box grocery stores to make the full effect happen such as Target or Whole Foods? Here are some pics I took of the newly renovated building last weekend. The building looks brand new again with new light fixtures, new canopy for the entry way and everything.
