What's the story with the old Twelve Oaks Hospital located at 4200 Portsmouth Street? The original hospital with the huge columns was demolished for the expansion of the glass facade "River Oaks Hospital"? What years was the original hospital active? Any demolishing pictures? Anyone have any memories here? I guess being a hospital, it might be bad memories. Found this postcard on Ebay. The idea of this hospital sitting near Greenway Plaza is wild. It would definitely not fit in today's commercial/hospital realty climate. Tweleve Oaks Hospital 4200 Portsmouth, Houston, Texas 77027 Beautiful 112-bed general hospital, conveniently located between the Southwest Freeway and Richmond Avenue. Complete, modern facilities for all surgical and medical patients. Spacious, cheerful rooms with a home-like atmosphere.

I was browsing the newspaper The Rice Thresher dated November 14, 1986 and came across an advertisement for Bissonnet Plaza Apartments located at 5104 Buffalo Speedway. There were two different apartment complexes on each side of the street. Looks to be have built in the 1950s and demolished in the late 1980s or 1990s. The two shopping centers were built in replace of these apartments? Plaza In The Park Shopping Center and Terrace Shops Shopping Center. Any pictures of the apartment complex? Did anyone happen to live here? These prices listed! $260 for a studio apartment in Greenway Plaza/West University? 37 years later and I'm sure that $260 apartment would be $1,260. So crazy! Noticed this on Loopnet. 2828 Southwest Fwy - Four Points by Sheraton Greenway Plaza https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2828-Southwest-Fwy-Houston-TX/23923870/ The Property is situated on 2.38 acres (103,569 square feet) of land, presenting a rare opportunity for a developer with flexibility to reposition or redevelop the Property into a different asset type. Alternatively, a new hotel investor will have the opportunity to realize the significant upside of acquiring and renovating an asset in a highly desirable submarket, substantially below replacement cost.

Very cool find! Apparently 60 years ago, Buffalo Speedway in River Oaks/Greenway Plaza was an industrial area filled with oil and gas and technology companies. One company is still there, Texas Crude Energy located at 2803 Buffalo Speedway. This building was across the street from the Exxon Upstream Research Company Campus at 3102 Buffalo Speedway. I'm not exactly sure which building it is on old aerials. From the magazine Geophysics dated October 1956: Houston Technical Laboratories (HTL) A subsidiary of Texas Instruments Incorporated 3609 Buffalo Speedway * Houston 6, Texas * Cable: Houlab

I was browsing the magazine Offshore dated November 1955 and came across an awesome office building located at 3815 Buffalo Speedway. Anyone know the architect? It's so simple, but so cool! New home of United Core, Inc. of Houston, is this building at 3815 Buffalo Speedway. Facilities for the company, a petroleum well logging and engineering firm, include offices, an accounting department, a production laboratory, a research laboratory, and printing and drafting rooms.

Mission Constructors is one of Houston's famed construction companies founded in 1978. They have done a lot of projects in the Houston area, but one of the projects that stands out is the Museo Plaza on Fannin Street. I wonder when the 60 year old building at 3818 Buffalo Speedway will be demolished? The current tenant is Mission Constructors. They actually might own the building? I often drive by and think of it as being out of place and surrounded by high rises. Website: https://missionconstructors.com/

Looking for a bit of history on the Chase bank in the Greenway area off of US 59 and Buffalo Speedway. It has the gold dome and I remember back when the Rockets were winning championships they covered the dome with a Basketball tarp. Anyway, I am looking for the origins of this building just for my own curious reasons.

When I was a kid, late 70s, early 80s, I had heard stories of a planned airport for short-takeoff craft that was planned to be on the south side of 59 at Greenway Plaza, between 59 and Westpark. I think the plan originated in the 60s, but never came to, probably due to obvious safety and noise issues. Had anyone else heard of this? I did a cursory google search and came up empty handed.

Driving by I noticed the Chase Bank branch at 3403 Richmond Ave is now closed. This is across the street from 3737 Buffalo Speedway. This is prime real estate! That stretch of Buffalo Speedway could really kick off. The RO, Senterra Richmond, and now this 2-acres. The Loopnet listing has been pulled. Can't find it on CBRE's website either. This has been sold? https://www.loopnet.com/listing/3403-richmond-ave-houston-tx/7729788/

So I pass by Summit Place or Plaza, right next to Lakewood Church/Compaq Cente/Summit, and that project look totally idiotic. First I noticed that the pyramid shaped caps on the towers were way out of proportion to the rest of the building (all the had to do was copy the cap on the Mercedes dealership next door) then they are building a garage behind it that you can see is towering over it from the freeway. Doesn't look like the architects did any mass models! To top it off, the garage look like it will be unfinished concrete while the store fronts are brick! Talk about another uninspired project for Houston. I was hoping that something good would be built there. I also hate the Spanish Colonial strip malls they built on the other side of the freeway, replete with the fake tile roofs. Why can't the city embrace some modern architecture for once?
