The architect George Dickey designed the Jehu Johnson-James Ross mansion located at 710 Hadley Street in 1882. I really like George Dickey's work. This is an awesome house and estate.

In 1887, the architect George Dickey designed the house for Joseph Chappell Hutcheson. Located at 1417 McKinney Street in downtown, this could have been in the area of the residential neighborhood Quality Hill.

Found this amazing Downtown mansion that belonged to Alexander Root and designed by George Dickey in 1894. It looks like the Root family donated their land to the city. Now stands the Root Memorial Square Park.

Can't seem to find where the popular internet image of the George Dickey business advertisement originated from. There wasn't a dedicated thread for George Dickey so I thought I would create one. This architect was amazing! I really liked his 1890s syle. The TSHA has a good write up about him: https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/entries/dickey-george-e George E. Dickey, Architect and Superintendent. Office- Over Savings Bank, Cor. Main and Congress, Houston. Twenty years experience in architecture (Capitol Hotel..) The original Baker house on 1416 Main Street. Built in April 1919. A little confused. Wasn't Capt. Baker's home (or family estate) on San Jacinto? There was also the Baker estate which MD Anderson moved into to start their hospital system. I wonder if these are different people? If not, Capt. James Baker was very, very wealthy! Cool house! Anyone know the architect? George Dickey?

The Witch's Hat House, from the Houston Architectural Guide, second edition. I used to see this house all the time because I used to bank at Gibraltar, now Bank of America, on San Jacinto and it was right across the street. In the late 80's it looked pretty sharp and slowly deteriorated. Sad, but no one wanted to live there in those days. Interestingly, it won a Good Brick award in 1981!

On HAIF, there was a single blurb about this building from 15 years ago. Thought I would bring this topic to a fresh start and a dedicated thread. The armory and club was on top of Commercial National Bank building that is located on Franklin Street & Main Street. Here's a post card I found: Very cool! The original building is still standing. The building has been modified.

Yes, I spelled that right. Hou-storic. Get it?! Anyway, forgive me if this is already posted somewhere...I couldn't find it... Edit: Benjamin A. Shepherd founded one of the first independent banks in Texas in 1854- Houston Savings Bank. In 1886; F.A. Rice - President; B.A. Botts, Vice-President. A website I just discovered: http://houstoricproject.com/

Does anyone know where I might locate a photo of the now-demolished Dillingham residence that once stood at 1214 Rusk Street in Houston? Architect George Dickey claimed to be the designer of the home, but it was actually a slight variant of design #485 published by Robert W. Shoppell in "Shoppell's Modern Houses" (1887). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It didn't really dawn on me to look for a historical marker or anything on this building and the only thing I've found is this: http://www.panoramio.../photo/35794816 Here is the photo I took of it. It's a good looking building, but I need a better perspective on it. Those damned wires kept getting in the way.
