In the latest development in Friendswood’s downtown district, local company Tannos Development Group celebrated the topping out of a four-story, 106,000-square-foot medical office building, 1715 Friendswood, on Dec. 5. The $23 million building at the corner of FM 518 and FM 528, at 1715 S. Friendswood Drive, is nestled behind the Virgata Commons shopping center, which was completed earlier this year. Tannos purchased the 3.7 acres from Virgata Property Co. this past spring and started construction in late May. Before 1715 Friendswood, the firm built the 64,000-square-foot 505 South Friendswood Drive and moved its own offices into it. Tannos is also in the permitting phase for The Albritton, a 102,000-square-foot, four-story mixed-use building with apartments, office and retail at 408 S. Friendswood Drive. https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2022/12/07/tannos-development-group-friendswood-office-topout.html

I was browsing the newspaper The South Belt Press dated June 28, 1978 and came across a business ad for Kings Hall Stables located at 9655 Hall Road (behind Kirkmont.) Instruction under Capt. Harry E. Whittaker. The current site looks to be a vacant field for water retention? There is also a Private Mini Storage near the area. Are there several types of horse riding? As I am researching the numerous Houston stables I am seeing "English Riding" and "Western Riding." Does anyone remember this place? Share your memories!!

Does anybody (besides me) have any recollection of Shellwood? It was on the corner of 518 and 528 in Friendswood, and was bascially a park for Shell employees. They always had their company picnics there. It was very wooded and had a pool, tennis and basketball courts, picnic tables, etc.... I always knew where it was, but my Mom's friend told me there was a subdivision where it once was (I never knew that it was bounded by 528). The "lake" is still there, and is located right off of the creek (Clear Creek perhaps?). I was wondering if anybody could share some memories of it.

If you travel on the southbound frontage road near the Baybrook mall, you can see all sorts of land being cleared and concrete padding being poured. This appears to be different from the mall expansion that just finished. I'm just wondering what else could be going up...

Hey, just noticed on Google Earth there seems to be ground-clearing and dirt work at the old Southbend subdivision, condemned and abandoned in the early 1990s. I can't find any news on further cleanup (or possible development), anyone have more info?

I searched the topic and didn't see any previous posts. Anyone go to summercamp at Camp Manison? If I recall, it was near Manvel Tx. I remember the ground-level trampolines, horses and farm. Later I went to some company picnic's on the campgrounds. I moved away, not sure whatever became of it.

A project being financed by a local trial lawyer was canceled after a year of endless hassle by the City of Friendswood staffers. Local lawyer and developer of the project, Tony Buzbee, wrote a scathing letter to the mayor and council telling them why he pulled the plug. After a year of purchasing $20 million dollars worth of properties along Main St. (FM 518) for his development, the city staff kept jerking him around, causing him to change his plans several times and make major concessions to various department planners. He finnally gave up and removed all of his signs and equipment. It seems the last straw was the city's denial to let his sales staff use a temporary job trailer for offices while work progressed. It must be nice to be wealthy enough to make a decision like that.

More infill outside the belt. The developers are hoping to partner with someone to build a mixed use "town center", which seems to be what turn of the 21st century suburbs will be remembered for, along with the "themes". Sounds great and all that, with hike and bike trails and rec areas, but this will turn the already bad traffic around there (at least the few times I've been through) vile in a short while. bizjournal article.
