Hello everyone. Who rememberd when Ch. 13 used to do the Saturday Night Movie back in the old days ? Here's clips of several promos from Saturday, January 10, 1987: ABC 13 Elements-1987 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7zlq0_ktrk-houston-abc13-elements-1987_shortfilms Here's an Eyewitness News Update brief with Dave Ward on January 3, 1987 (subbed in for Van Hackett & Melanie Lawson) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbqipj_ktrk-houston-13-ewn-update-1987-bra_news
Ladies and gentlemen, here are some clips from some weekend newscasts of KTRK Ch. 13 Eyewitness News back in the day and one of them, covers the Rendezvous Houston concert during the week of March 31-April 5, 1986: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db6dRG0jgHQ Ch. 13 Eyewitness News opens/news reports at 1:32, 53:11-54:37 and again from 59:37-1:02:52 I've noticed in the 1:32 mark, they had Shara Fryer in the 6pm newscasts, I believe she joined the 6pm news in 1986 (besides already doing Live at 5). Here's some of the weekend news anchors of KTRK Ch. 13 and give input to tell where are and what they're doing now: Van Hackett (1980-1987): Reporter/Anchor: did Live at 5 for a brief time before moving to the weekends around 1983 and stayed there until leaving the station in the summer of 1987. Diana Fallis: the station's first African American female weekend anchor for several years. Jim Rosenfeld (1983-1989): Reporter/Anchor: replaced Hackett in the summer of 1987 in the weekend newscasts and co-anchored with Debbi Johnson between 1987 until the spring of 1989. Alan Hemberger (RIP): (1989-1998): Replaced Rosenfeld on the weekends during the spring of 1989 and was there until 1990, when he was moved to Live at 5 and anchored on the 5pm weekday newscasts until 1998. Then briefly worked in Austin before moving back to Houston to work for KIAH-TV CW 39. Debbi Johnson (1979 ?-1991): Reporter and later weekend anchor: replaced Melanie Lawson in the summer of 1987 (who moved to Live at 5) and co-anchored the weekend newscasts with Jim Rosenfeld (1987-1989), Alan Hemberger (1989-1990) and Bob Boudreaux (1990-1991). Minerva Perez (1991-2007): Co-anchored weekend newscasts with Bob Boudreaux (1991-2001) and later co-anchored Mid-Day newscasts until leaving in 2007. Tim Melton (1981-2013): Weekend sports anchor until his retirement due to health problems Ed Brandon (1972-2007): Did weekend weather reports alongside weekdays. Roland Galvan (1986-1988): Briefly did weekend weather reports for Ch. 13 before moving to KPRC-TV NBC 2 If I've left anyone out, let me know and you can post some old videos from the 70s-80s of KTRK Ch. 13 weekend newscasts.
Hello everyone. I've stumbled upon some news clips and noticed the famous music theme, "News Series 2000" that several news stations such as KTRK Ch. 13 had used during the 1980s. Here are several examples: KTRK-TV Ch. 13 Eyewitness News Tonight on Wednesday, October 8, 1986: September 11, 1988 10pm weekend newscast with Jim Rosenfield, Debbi Johnson, Tim Melton and Ed Brandon (Galvan left for KPRC sometime in the fall of that year). Opens start at 3:09 mark http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdby4f_ktrk-various-promos-newsbreaks-1988_shortfilms WABC-TV New York, NY State from 1985 11pm newscast open WLS-TV ABC 7 Chicago 1986 newscast open: WVUE-TV New Orleans, LA 1992 open WXYZ-TV Detroit, MI ABC 7 1993 open with Bill Bonds' classic talk: Here's another from 1990: KABC-TV ABC 7 Los Angeles, CA from 1992 (they used the News Series 2000 theme in 1990: previously used Cool Hand Luke from 1969-1990) *Anyone noticed that Laura Diaz looks like Eva Longoria in this clip LOL. Let me know if I forgot to add any other videos of news stations who used the News Series 2000:
First, Adela Uchida mysteriously left Ch. 13 from the weekend newscast, then Christi Meyers retires after 27 years with the station and now, Katie McCall has left Ch. 13 after 5 years with the station, during which she anchored the weekend mornings before being moved to reporter last year. McCall was at CW 39 KIAH-TV Houston for 6 years before leaving Houston for Chicago before returning to the Bayou City. This was McCall's second stint in Houston and what is y'all reaction to McCall's exit from KTRK Ch 13 ?
