While driving down South Wynden Drive I came across this fancy brick office building. Here's some photos I took of the building. -
Williams Tower - formerly known as Transco Tower Height: 901 feet 64 stories Circa: 1983 Architects: Johnson Burgee and Morris Aubry Facts - Then Transco Tower became Williams Tower when Transco Energy was bought out by Williams Energy Corp. in 1999 - Tallest building outside of any CBD - Rotating beacon at night on roof every 15 seconds - Williams Tower functions as two 32-floor towers stacked on top of each other, complete with separate lobbies, elevators, and garages. - South of the building is a 3-acre park with a large fountain called the "Waterwall" (aka Transco Fountain), designed by the building's architects with Richard Fitzgerald & Partners. Really good news for downtown. KBR has decided NOT to consolidate into a new campus in West Houston, but will instead expand downtown. They expect to ultimately need 1.2 million square feet of office space downtown. That appears to be about 300,000 square feet more than they currently occupy downtown. HBJ KBR story

The thought crossed my mind when I read the chron.com article this morning about Chevron buying the second former Enron building and the YMCA land... Have there been any rumors that Chevron is moving more people here or consolidating somehow? Any chance they would move their HQ from California here?

CenterPoint Energy's Hiram Clarke Generating Station at 12045 South Main Street. Weeks ago I noticed a demolition permit at this address. Looks like a part of the site will be turned into Powerfuels' Houston Clean Energy Park. Center Point Energy will still occupy some of the parcel?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any plans to renovate/rebuild the Kroger at Cambridge/OST? I live right down the street from it and find it really convenient, but really outdated and the layout a bit cramped. I'm hoping something similar to the Montrose (near Westheimer) renovation could happen at this location. An expanded "prepared meals" section and dairy section would be really nice. Also, a bigger entrance would be good too...My far-fetched wish is that they would buy some of the land next to them and build a brand new store like the Studemont location, and convert the existing into more parking and a Kroger gas station...I went to the Kirby store the other day and it looks like they could handle a larger store in the area.- 58 replies

Just happened to be driving by and I spotted a huge crane behind (I think) the Men's clubor the Marriott garden inn. I couldn't quite tell what it was doing there aside from just quietly sitting there.

I was wondering what the new CenterPoint Energy Texas Medical Center Substation will look like. I thought I would stop at the CenterPoint property off Westpark Drive that's located on Newcastle Drive in Bellaire. I believe there are different uses for both sides of the street? On one side you have the actual power plant, and the other is used for communication/power towers? What are these weird objects?

I just finished reading the latest posts on the apparant fate of the Shamrock and it got me to thinking. Where are the business people with great vision in this town? Why aren't those like Jim Macinvale investing in huge projects? Why do they seem to invest only enough to get by? The little I do know about Houstons history shows extreme vision on the part of men like Hoffeinz etc. These were men that loved this city and wanted to see it leep over other cities with one fell swoop. Houston has so much potential and I just can't understand why no local has taken the reigns to push it to the next level.

I checked out the Cushman & Wakefield website but couldn't locate it. Found this in the publication Gulf Coast Oil News 1917-01-13: Iss 14 and wanted to share with HAIF. A cool, viewpoint, from the old days! In a few hours, I'll post the history to the site. Apparently the Westheimer family owned it prior to G.H. Hermann? Crazy! View On Hermann Tract Recently Sold For a Million When George Hermann, late philanthropist of Houston, bought the land on which the wells shown above are located, paying 25 cents to $1.00 per acres for it, he little thought it would ever be worth more than a million dollars. The tract was recently sold for $1,200,000 he money to be used to erect and endow a hospital in Houston, in conformity with Mr. Hermann's will. Humble Oil Field Humble, Texas FJ. I searched HAIF and couldn't find any mention of this historic company founded by John Kirby. I found a cool brochure from 1921 of the Kirby Petroleum Company and thought I would share. The field was located in Breckenridge, Texas.

Last I checked, the Skanska project has 5 tunnel connections. Also I think we should all remember that Linebeck, Skanska, and Hines are all chasing the same group of potential tenants. I think we will see one of the three go in the next year maybe two if we are lucky. Now the good news is that there is a 50ish story tower that will beat all 3 of these out of the ground.

Cool! I wonder where exactly was this office building? Found the article in the newspaper The Southwest Citizen dated August 31, 1950. Well, I wonder if the building is still there? Depending on the money of the land, it was probably demolished and a new building took it's place? Does anyone remember this company, or business? Oil Co. To Build Office Grounds for the new $250,000 Triangle Refineries modern covered office building at Kirby and Nottingham were broken Monday by J.B. Saunders, President, West University Place official and other company officers. The building contract calls for completion in six months, when the company ill move from its present offices in the Neils Esperson Building. From 75 to 100 employees will work in the two-story building, which will cover 16,500 square feet. The structure will be reinforced with concrete and masonry. Salmon colored bricks trimmed in natural stone will set off an all grass front. There will be 50 offices in the new Triangle Building. Mahogany and walnut panel with deep carpets will decorate executive rooms, which open onto a landscaped patio. The building also will have a kitchen, employee lunchroom, dining terrace and covered parking area. Musak will provide music in all the offices. The building was designed by Lenard Gabert and contra ted by Fretz Construction Company. J.B. Saunders, President of Triangle Refineries, Inc. takes the first dirt from the site of Triangle's new office building. Watching are K. Schroter, Whitt F. Johnson, WUP Secretary, W.C. Buschardt, Jr., WUP Councilman, H.H. Raborn, Vice-President, and C.D. Tinsley.

Looks like George Hermann acquired this local electric company called Woods Electric Company. As the name states, the founder of the business was named ____ Woods. (Forgot his name, I'll need to look into this!) A little confusing. This was not the Baker-Meyer building in Market Square? I wonder if this was next door then. A Meyer business was, eventually, located in this same building. Maybe Joseph Meyer had two locations next door to each other? From the newspaper The Houston Post. dated April 21, 1907. In Bankruptcy. Two petitions, one involuntary and the other voluntary filed. In the Federal Court. The proceedings involve the Woods Electric Company of Houston and the Emanual Schwartz of Hallettsville. The petitioning credits in the involuntary case against the Woods Electric Company and the amounts due each are: George Hermann, $500; F.W. Heitmann Company, $26.66, and Fuller-Cook Hardware Company, $10.20. In the petition it is alleged that he directors of the company met on April 12 and adopted a resolution admitting the company's insolvency and its inability to pit its debts. This admission is alleged as an act of bankruptcy and upon it the petition as filed. The company, of which George H. Hermann is President and J.J. Settegast is Secretary, is engaged in trading and mercantile pursuits in Houston--

Noticed this small building in the 1950 Sanborn map and researched the address this week. Good times. From the publication The Oil & Gas Journal dated 1952-08-11: Vol 51 Iss 14 Oklahoma Contracting Company, 6512 Hines Boulevard, Dallas, Texas as a joint venture with Houston Contracting Company, is laying 68 miles of 24-in between Houston and the Brazos River for the Rancho Pipe Line Company.
