  1. Last I checked, the Skanska project has 5 tunnel connections. Also I think we should all remember that Linebeck, Skanska, and Hines are all chasing the same group of potential tenants. I think we will see one of the three go in the next year maybe two if we are lucky. Now the good news is that there is a 50ish story tower that will beat all 3 of these out of the ground.
  2. Chevron Houston Marathon Activities to Bring Fun And Street Closures This weekend, the City of Houston will play host to our largest annual outdoor sporting event, the Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon, ABB 5K, and Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine EXPO. With all of this activity, some streets will be closed to ensure that spectators and participants are kept safe. Schedule of Activities Friday & Saturday - Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine EXPO (George R. Brown Convention Center) Join the Houston Marathon Committee for the annual Expo featuring some of the best products and information for Houston runners. This event will take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Downtown Houston and will run Friday and Saturday. Streets around the GRB will be closed in preparation for the weekend's events. Saturday - ABB 5K On Saturday, hundreds of runners will be downtown to take part in the annual ABB 5K. This will require some streets to be closed downtown, including Caroline and Austin streets between Francis and McKinney, as well as Lamar and McKinney streets between Caroline and Crawford. Visit the ABB5K Course page on the Marathon website for more information. Sunday - Aramco Houston Half Marathon and Chevron Houston Marathon On Sunday, thousands of runners as well as hundreds of thousands of spectators will take to the streets to participate in the Half Marathon and Marathon events. Streets will begin to close around 6:00am and progressively close along the routes. In the same way, streets will begin to reopen about 8:00am, with the final street reopening around 2:30pm. For detailed information on road closures on Sunday, visit the Closure page on the Marathon website. METRO Schedule Changes Due to Marathon Due to the Marathon, METRO will be modifying some service on Sunday, January 18th including suspending light rail in some parts of downtown to accommodate the runners. Visit ridemetro.org for more details.
  3. http://www.shell.com/global/environment-society/ecomarathon/events/americas/schedule.html almost here again, for some reason I look forward to this event as much as I do the art car parade. I guess I just geek out over anything with a motor and wheels.
  4. It always frustrates me when I see something cool just happened in the city, and I missed it cause I didn't find out till too late... http://www.shell.com/home/content/ecomarathon/americas/ It was pretty neat last year, worth popping by, if you don't otherwise have plans, or are close, but I wouldn't plan a day around it. It'll be at disco green again, same as last year.
  5. The thought crossed my mind when I read the chron.com article this morning about Chevron buying the second former Enron building and the YMCA land... Have there been any rumors that Chevron is moving more people here or consolidating somehow? Any chance they would move their HQ from California here?
  6. A thread exists for Houston Marathon in 2008, so please merge if desired. I am likely doing the half, but I paid for the full since the half was already sold out. I can switch down to the half marathon later on since I am in the full marathon for a small fee. So who else is doing it? Registration opened Friday and both the full and half marathons sold out.
  7. Never been to a marathon so I decided to check this one out. It started at 7:00 a.m. this morning. I got to the DT just before 6:00 a.m. and had time to walk about before the sun came out: Saw Mayor White with some dignitaries:
  8. My sisters and I walked in it again this year. I am surprised I haven't seen any media coverage of it. It was a beautiful day to walk, bright, sunny, mild, dry air. It was thousands of people walking and raising money for a good cause. Has the media just dropped the ball on this one -- or am I looking in the wrong place?
  9. Is it just me or does this building look just like a huge block of legos just clumped together? I look at it practically everyday on my way to school and think that this building has no architectural significance. It's shaped pretty awkwardly, it looks like the architect spent no longer than 5 min planning the design. This and the Exxon Mobil buildings do nothing for the Houston skyline in the architectural aspect in my opinion.
