  1. While browsing the The Bellaire Texan magazine dated April 3, 1957 I found a business ad for Whitehill Stables at 5418 Dashwood Dr. "One block off Chimney Rock Road Behind Chimney Rock Nursery" Recently under new management, Whitehill Stables & School of Riding (formally the Bellaire Stables.) Sandy Whitehall proprietor and instructor. J. Jones resident farrier. Horace Alley trainer & instructor.

  3. This is the shopping center with the Randall’s at Bellaire & Bissonnet. https://s25.q4cdn.com/658894972/files/doc_presentations/2020/11/3Q20-Roadshow-(Nareit).pdf A planned multi-story mixed-use redevelopment is in the works. Wonder if they’re signaling that the Randall’s will be closing, making the shopping center obsolete.
  4. This shopping center located at 5400 - 6810 Bellaire Blvd. has some history. First opened in February 1956. I've been visiting this center a lot lately. Bernie's Burger Bus is addicting! Figured I'd make a thread to keep track of the comings & goings. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/5400-6810-Bellaire-Blvd-Bellaire-TX/11995514/

  6. Does anyone re member when the POS opened and closed (years)? They were located @ the SEC of today's 610 and 59, just north of Bellaire. When they were demolished, I retrieved a metal post from a railing surrounding the horse ring. Also, in the late 1970's, Ranch 74 Beef had an outlet there (the stables were already gone). Thanks for responding!
  7. Noticed a Fidelis Realty Expansion on TDLR this week.
  8. Don't forget Randall's & Whole Foods on Bellaire Blvd, plus the Randall's on Weslayen. The grocery market in the West U area is already saturated; when the "super Kroger" opened, it took a lot of business away from the Weslayen Randall's. The new HEB will probably put the nail in the coffin for the Weslayan Randall's, as it is the oldest grocery store in the area, and was designed to 1980s standards.

  10. Located at 5612 S. Rice near Glenmont. https://thebrownstonegroup.net/developments/ Developments listed below are either complete or under construction. They are listed based on their completion date (or placed in service date) or the date that they are planned for completion.
  11. After years and years of back and forth between HISD, the architects, the school, and the community, this one finally broke ground in late March early April. This is a reconstruction of Bellaire's existing school. Originally part of the 2012 Bond referendum, this is anticipated to finally bring this massive bond to a close. Personally, I'm amazed this one ever got built. Lets just say this wasn't an easy project for those involved to develop, and there was a lot of chaos, but all of that aside the important thing is that its happening. Developer: HISD Architect: PBK Estimated Completion: 2021 (students will move back in), 2022 (final completion) Budget: $106,724,000 Article about groundbreaking (March 28th): https://blogs.houstonisd.org/news/2019/03/28/bellaire-hs-gathers-to-celebrate-start-of-construction-on-new-building/ Site Plan: Render (for some reason the only publicly avaiable render...is of the parking garage portion...oh well)
  12. Edge Realty Partners have been doing some great stuff lately. Found this while browsing their website. http://edge-re.com/Property/BellaireChimneyRock-Lease
  13. I was driving on the West Loop last week and noticed construction at the Episcopal High School campus. I was going too fast to actually look closely, however after checking their website, it appears a new building is being erected on the northwest corner of the property. Does anyone know what the fate of the original 1955 Marian High School building is? Looks like the 1930's convent and chapel are safe......for now.
  14. John Teas died recently and now the family is selling off the centenarian property for single home developments. Bah. From Nancy Sarnoff via Swamplot: http://blogs.chron.com/primeproperty/2009/11/teas_nursery_to_be_redeveloped.html http://swamplot.com/first-theyll-need-to-clear-out-all-that-vegetation-thats-in-the-way
  15. Always liked this building from the freeway. Wish the 610 canyon would extended into Bellaire more. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/6330-West-Loop-S-Bellaire-TX/5837502/
  16. Noticed this on Loopnet. 1.64-acre surface lot is for sale. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/5420-Dashwood-Drive-Excess-Land-Dr-Houston-TX/23095816/
  17. Noticed the property fenced off with a SWPPP sign.
  18. Strake Jesuit's campus is getting bigger and more dense with a new large addition to the campus. They really like to adhere to their core architectural theme, and I guess it makes for a cohesive looking campus. Loyola Hall will be their biggest academic building. Its going to be where the soccer field is between building 8 and 20. Little known fact, originally the entrance is where Fiesta is now, but financial troubles forced Strake Jesuit to sell that land, as well as the land behind where apartment buildings are now. They recently reacquired the lot, number 21, which were also apartments. If you've ever visited Strake Jesuit, you know it doesn't have a proper entrance, per se, and that's the reason. Its like entering a shopping mall. If you're wondering why there are so many individual buildings, Strake Jesuit wanted to give the campus a college like setting with individual buildings for different departments. https://strakejesuit.myschoolapp.com/app/detail/video/5602611
  19. I lived in Bellaire from 1950 to 1960 (ages 2 to 12) and went to Horn Elementary on Pine Street. One of my fondest memories was going to the Bellaire Theater on Saturday mornings. They had a kiddie matinee every Saturday. It cost a quarter to get in and popcorn was a nickel. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, they would have an all-cartoon show. My friends and I would go almost every weekend. Our mothers would take turns driving and would leave us there and pick us up later. I'm sure it was like a zoo. I remember kids running up and down the aisles. Is anyone else from Bellaire? I'd love to hear your stories.
