  2. Looks like this place has either been sold or is being remodeled....there appears to be an outdoor seating area going in and the building is being painted
  3. it seems like someone really decided we needed more BBQ in the East End. there's the one that's been perpetually under construction since pre-pandemic at Leeland near Emancipation. there's the one on Sampson for which @ljchou just started a topic. and near Dismuke and Lawndale, which used to be Stephanie's Ice House, there's another BBQ place opening up. Harris County General Store BBQ Company is what Google maps says, and it also says they're open now. not that I'm complaining, I love BBQ, just seems that someone hosted a seminar for how to open a BBQ restaurant and everyone decided to go for it.
  4. New business permit for "That's It BBQ" at 105 Sampson St. Its a small brick building surrounded by fences that I always assumed was used for residential purposes. Curious to see if this actually ends in a restaurant. Currently they are only support catering/food truck. https://www.facebook.com/THATSITBBQ/
  5. BBQ - what was your favorite Lenox in Houston, Holcombe's near Pasadena Mall.

  7. I have always been fascinated by the cool limestone building on Montrose near Westheimer....and now Brookstreet Bar-B-Que is adding a drive thru and patio to make it there 5th location in Houston! From the looks of it, they are now planning a May or June opening! http://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/11-30-15-popular-barbecue-restaurant-coming-to-gorgeous-stone-house-in-montrose/#slide=0
  8. Where Pete's was on Telephone. Someone new has been renovating for a few months and apparently did a soft opening this last weekend.

  13. maorlando God kept us 2012 leaning on Him 2013 has added a photo to the pool: Recently a nationally televised sporting event in Houston did some night pans of the Houston skyline and in one of the first shots you saw this cross... that was the last time you saw it... It was and is a beautiful sight at night and really stood out if only for one view... And if you want good Texas BBQ then Pappas is a great place to get some... this was taken on a misty rainy night with the lights of night reflecting off the mist in the air and the wet streets... the photo ops were a complete surprise and awesome fun solo shooting when I took some mail to the downtown post office that I wanted to get out that day... they have a last pick up at 8 pm. 14. I remember when I was a little girl during the 1970s and the 1980s I used to go to a barbecue place on the end of the shopping strip on Boardway going toward Hobby Airport and going away from I-45. It was on the end where the Glenbrook Valley Area is. Does anyone remember the name of the restaurant? This place bring back GREAT memories! ~Juliet Shohreh Nour~
  15. Phil's BBQ will be changing over to J. Black's. Saw the sign today and googled it tonight....here are the stories on it. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/print-edition/2011/09/02/hip-austin-lounge-has-recipe-for.html?ana=twt http://www.facebook.com/JBlacksHouston ""A popular Austin-based hot spot is set to take over the former Phil’s BBQ location on Washington Avenue. J. Black’s Feel Good Lounge is slated to open in the 7,000-square-foot space at the southern corner of Heights Boulevard later this year. The lounge, which also has a location in Dallas, features signature cocktails, salads and artisan pizzas. The upscale lounge also features a brunch menu and an extensive wine list. The menu includes items such as Australian Lamb Chop Lollipops; Texas Kobe Beef Sliders; and Shiner, TX Pizza. In addition, the Houston location will feature The Cork Room, a special event area. J. Black’s will also feature two all-season covered patios to provide shade for drinking and eating in the hot Texas weather. Phil’s BBQ closed in May, after just over a year in business. Martin Pike, an owner of Phil’s BBQ, said at the time the economics just didn’t work out (read more at http://bizj.us/b3j67). Phil’s had a long-term lease but was able to sublease the space to J. Black’s. Alan Chodrow of Houston-based Chodrow Realty Advisors represented the owner of the building in the transaction, while J. Black’s was represented by Carter Butler and Jon Smallingof Houston-based UCR Moody Rambin. David Littwitz, of Chodrow Realty Advisors, confirmed the deal was finalized and said there was quite a bit of interest in the high-traffic location. “I can tell you now that the deal is completed, that we had many, many legitimate inquiries on the space and received a dozen letters of intent,” he said. The J. Black’s concept was created by Judson Sutherland, a real estate attorney; Brian Franzman, former manager of Eddie V’s steak house in Austin; and Sean Fric, a lead bartender at Eddie V’s.
  16. Construction on the Rudy's BBQ has begun and is scheduled to open by Memorial Day. Anybody know of any other new reasturants opening in the Katy area?
  17. Just saw this on their Facebook fan page: https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10150279335707968&set=a.138391642967.108976.91927582967&type=1&theater Looks like it will be on the South side of I-10 Just East of Mason Road. Right next to the Dodge dealership. This should give Spring Creek BBQ some competition (and Red River BBQ on South Mason). Exciting Stuff!!
  18. Otto's BBQ is closing for good on Jan 20, 2010...The burger side is staying open (for now)
  19. Saw this on Chron. In March, when the fires at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo cookoff scent the air for miles around Reliant Park, our thoughts naturally turn to barbecue. Indeed, if we had an official civic perfume, it would consist of charry beef mixed with melting fat, plus a twist of red-peppery pork as a kicker. There are spots in this city where, after all my years here, I still love to stand and breathe. One's at my Jeep dealership on Kirby, where the mesquite smoke from nearby Goode Company ebbs and flows in intoxicating fashion. Another's in the parking lot of my neighborhood H-E-B, where the hickory-singed meat scents from the Gulfgate Pappas Bar-B-Q make me linger. It smells like home. 20. I read where we are getting a new Spring Creek BBQ house near the Katy Freeway and Westgreen soon. But where can I find really good BBQ in Katy before then? Seems everytime we crave BBQ, we head into Houston....
  21. Mr. Burns died on Thanksgiving at 72 years old. I may need to make a trek out to Burns BBQ today in his honor. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/houstonchronicle/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=136855245
  22. http://www.khou.com/news/Poll-results-H-Towns-11-Best-barbecue-joints-69966092.html HOUSTON -- After tallying the results for the latest 11 Best poll, one thing became crystal clear: Houstonians are serious about barbecue. (In the name of journalism, 11 News This Morning anchor Vicente Arenas checked out the top spots for himself, and he said he liked them so much, he was still full the next morning.)
  23. Anyone have any comments about this place? I have heard it's a place we need to try.

  25. A new Spring Creek Barbecue is scheduled to go in on 2920, west of kuykendahl. Just wondering how good the food is there. We need more restaurants in this area and I'm hoping it's a good one. There's also a future Taco Cabana sign next to it, but on NewQuest's website they show the TC going in front of the new Lowe's in the same strip Little Caeser's is in.
