Radio Bar owners planning Mid City beer garden that'll serve food, show sporting events The owners of the Radio Bar, a popular Mid City neighborhood cocktail lounge, have submitted plans for a beer garden that would be built at the intersection of Government Street and Steele Boulevard. The beer garden would be built at 3808 Government St., said Kelli Paxton, manager of the Radio Bar, who would be co-owner and general manger of the new property. Plans are to have a climate-controlled area surrounding an open space that would be about 1,200 to 1,400 square feet — about the same size as the interior of the Radio Bar, Paxton said.   8. The Knock Knock Children’s Museum will finally break ground next week after more than a decade of raising money and several false starts. BREC and the nonprofit Knock Knock board of directors have secured a contractor to build the museum, which was designed to sit on a sloped hill near City-Brooks Community Park on Dalrymple Drive. An official groundbreaking ceremony will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday for the building, which is designed to have three peaks and walls of windows. The agency had not yet disclosed the contractor. BREC spokeswoman Cheryl Michelet said the contractor will be introduced at the groundbreaking ceremony.   9. Baton Rouge is getting a new hotel. According to The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, local real estate developer Mike Wampold has broken ground on the redevelopment of the 12-story the old Louisiana National Bank Building. The property is located at 150 N. Third St. in the city’s downtown. He plans to turn the 88-year-old building into a 146-room hotel.   10. Drago’s Seafood Restaurant, the New Orleans eatery best known for its charbroiled oysters, is looking at opening locations in Baton Rouge and Lafayette. A location for the Lafayette restaurant should be announced “in the next couple of days,” said Ron St. Pierre, a spokesman for Drago’s. That restaurant should open later this year. Drago’s is also interested in opening a Baton Rouge restaurant, possibly as part of a mixed-use development that would be built off Highland Road in front of the Country Club of Louisiana. “We are interested in that piece of property, but we are strictly in the negotiation phase,” St. Pierre said. While Baton Rouge is a priority market, a Drago’s wouldn’t open in the city before 2016.   11. Plans for the Pointe-Marie Planned Unit Development have been submitted to the City-Parish Planning Commission. Pointe-Marie is a mixed-use development that would be built on a nearly 120-acre strip connecting Nicholson Drive and River Road, across from Innovation Park Drive. The development would have 565 single-family residential units, a village center with 285 multi-family units and 275,000 square feet of retail and commercial office space and a motor coach square with 236 lots. A 4.6-acre tract of land on Jefferson Highway has been sold to a builder/developer who plans to break ground on an office park within the next month. 6700 Jefferson LLC, which is named after the address of the property, bought the land for nearly $1.5 million in a deal that was filed last week with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s office.
