I'm trying to find information about an old hospital on Houston's west side. Is there any information about it? Looks like it was located near Bellaire and Wilcrest. After researching more, the hospital was originally called Alief General Hospital? The Alief General Hospital had an address of 11101 Bellaire Blvd. which is at the corner of Bellaire and Wilcrest. Here's an advertisement inquiring employment wanted found in the newspaper The Bellaire & Southwestern Texan dated October 6, 1976. An image of the hospital that I cropped from a photograph of a FINA Gas Station located at 11024 Bellaire Blvd.

The other day I discovered that Google Earth had a historic view, but only a few dates were available. 1944 was one of them (and in my area, basically there was nothing here), so I shuffled between the interesting ones (1978, 1989 and 1995) and today. What I noticed was that between those three dates, Boone Elementary, the first school that I went to, went through some pretty big cosmetic changes (I started there in 1999). Anyone here know when exactly these changes happened? Between '78 to '89, the indoor gym was built and whole entrance part of the building was re-built (the 1989 map in fact shows it still being built), and the track near Olle Middle School right in front of Boone was still being dug, and between '89 and '95 the section where the school busses currently pick up and drop off the students just to the upper right of the school was newly constructed. Anybody here go to Boone, and can say when these changes happened? Thanks! Top left - 2016 Top right - 1978 Bottom left - 1989 Bottom left - 1995

Does anyone know what this was? It looks like the world's biggest golf tee to me.

I have occasionally passed a building right at the intersection of Alief Clodine Road and South Kirkwood that has always intrigued me. It has obviously been there many years, and is a log cabin, though it looks like it was modernized at one point, with commericial-grade doors and windows put in (probably sometime between the late 60s and early 80s). A number is peeling off the street numbers, so I can't tell what number it actually is. I looked at it on Google Street view, and the number that is given for it there is not to be found on HCAD.org. I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to the story of this place?

I had no idea this place still existed! Had a b-day party there in the 80s at Fame City Waterworks!

I grew up in the Spring area, but now live in SW Houston (Meyerland). I was on Beechnut today and drove by Adventure Bay, which is now defunct. I got out and walked around - looks like they are clearing it out. I also noticed the "Fun Plex", which I think used to be Fame City. What is the story on Adventure Bay and Fun Plex/Fame City? I had never heard of either. Fun Plex is a MASSIVE complex. Any history on these? When they opened, etc? What is in Fun Plex now?

This time of year with school almost out, I remember the 6th grade @Bonham Elementary back inthe 60's & early 70's would spend a day @the Quilian Center near Alief. Would anyone know if it's still there?
-
Well it is used for some things, and it would probably cost even more to maintain a roller coaster/skating rink place. Also there is now a plan to use the stadium that looks somewhat promising.

I noticed that the Alief ISD elementary school boundaries were altered between 04-05 and 05-06. A new school, "Horn", appeared on the map. Is this a new Alief ISD elementary school?

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/m...politan/3283749 Gotta send props to my home sweet home. Da place that brought you Tila Nguyen, Rashard Lewis, and some of da most open people I've ever met. Though Alief has a lot of work to do, it's work so far deserves to be mentioned right up there with Fort Bend and Katy.

I stumbled upon an Asian forum where they were talking about Alief, that how nice it used to be and it has now become a ghetto whose ghetto effect is growing. Someone blamed Alief for the decline in Sharpstown. Another guy wondered how it would affect other nicer areas around it such as Westchase and Ashford Park. It is frustrating to see how the city lets a decent area go down the toilet and after it has suffered years of neglect we hear that it is being gentrified. Why not keep the area gentrified and stop the decline as soon as it becomes apparent!
