City of Houston Cohosts NeighboodhoodLIFTSM a Homebuyer EventMay 11 - 12, 2012 To help Houston overcome the effects of the housing crisis, the City of Houston is partnering with Wells Fargo banks and NeighborhoodWorks America to present NeighborhoodLIFTSM, a program designed to help communities attract qualified, prospective homebuyers to neighborhoods struggling with high inventories of unsold homes. The NeighborhoodLIFTSM program will take place on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center, Hall B, 1001 Avenida De Las Americas, Houston 77010. At the event, prospective homebuyers can participate in tours of affordable residential properties for sale in the city and will be able to apply for down payment assistance grants of up to $15,000 provided by the Wells Fargo Foundation and administered by NeighborWorks America Houston affiliate, Avenue Community Development Corporation. To qualify for the NeighborhoodLIFTSM program down payment assistance grants applicant income shall not exceed 120 percent of the local median income. There are additional requirements of completion of an eight-hour homebuyer education session with the approved NeighborWorks America affiliate and a commitment to stay in the home for five years. Representatives from Wells Fargo, Avenue Community Development Corporation and the City of Houston will be on site to help with the processing of applications for grants and other services. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is strongly recommended in order to guarantee the ability to meet one-on-one with a representative.
