  1. It's time for another microfilm scan! This one comes from an opening ad of Children's Palace in 1989 when it did its Grand Opening at The Commons at Greenspoint, a shopping center across from the mall. The shopping center never lasted too long...Children's Palace and other major tenants (like Phar-Mor) would go bankrupt just a few years afterward, not to mention the decline of the neighborhood. By the mid to late 1990s, the Commons was converted to offices. But for a brief, fleeting time, there was a real shopping center there and Children's Palace (a competitor to Toys R Us) was right there, with a Grand Opening, featuring appearances by its mascot, Peter Panda, and a guy in a RoboCop costume. Enjoy!
  2. Do y'all notice that WLWT-TV used a similar studio set compared to Ch. 13's back in the 1980s ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P11zYaOgqx0
  3. Where were you when Ch. 13 used the updated studio set during their Eyewitness News Briefs from February 24th, 1986 ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35eAEPT9L2c Because I noticed they didn't update the Circle 13 logo until sometime around March or April of 1986!
  4. Hello again! Recently I was browsing through some old Houston Post microfilms at Evans Library on campus (I did graduate) and found some cool ads and articles, which I'll be posting as time permits. I don't think this is *complete* (I'm pretty sure there was one at I-45 and Beltway 8 at some point), but here's the Phar-Mor locations in town as of June 1989, transcribed from an advertisement verbatim complete with wording idiosyncrasies (yes, "I-59"). Please don't actually call the numbers. ------------ THE COMMONS AT PRESIDIO SQUARE Bellaire Blvd. at Highway 6 Across from Fiesta Mart Store Ph.: 568-6591 Pharmacy Ph.: 568-5269 THE COMMONS AT WILLOWBROOK Tx. 249 & F/M 1960 Store Ph.: 890-3266 Pharmacy Ph.: 890-0488 SOUTH GESSNER SQUARE I-59 & South Gessner Store Ph.: 995-5681 Pharmacy Ph.: 995-4068 ALMEDA SQUARE Gulf Freeway & Kingspoint St. Store Ph.: 943-9918 Pharmacy Ph.: 943-9963 MEMORIAL CITY SHOPPING CENTER 980 Gessner Next to Montgomery Ward Store Ph.: 467-2400 Pharmacy Ph.: 467-8561 MEYER PARK SHOPPING CENTER South Post Oak Road at Route 610 Store Ph.: 729-6600 Pharmacy Ph.: 729-6661 OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK ----------------

  6. I found some clips from Fox 26 and their news package called, "Fox O&O News Package", I believed they used a different version of this music theme during their 7pm newscast back in 1986. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ4wELLM8ww Here's another from Dailymotion: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x82q8o_kriv-houston-25-yrs-of-news-on-fox_news In the early seconds of this clip, you'll see the first newscasts from 1983 and I believe 1986 or 1987. Does anyone have the full newscast of Fox 26 from November 1992 ?
