Trying to find more information about the historic Walter Fondren ranch that was located, in present day, Fondren Southwest, now known as Brays Oaks and Westbury. How come this was never mentioned on any of the old Houston maps? I'll assume the area was located off of South Main Street and Fondren Road? 1944 aerial of South Main & Fondren. I outlined what I think was the ranch. 1978 aerial of the same area but with homes, and race track!

Caught these historic matches on Ebay recently. The company on the matches is Texas Iron Works located at 12300 South Main Street. A little confusing. The area, today, is still light-industrial. There currently is a warehouse on site of the old TIW. However, the old warehouse could have been demolished and a new one could have been (easily) built in replacement. One thing, and I believe this is common on postcards, is all the grass surrounding the site. In present day, it's all development! Well, other than the Willow Waterhole Greenway near by. This would be next door to the Waukesha Pearce Industries parcel. WPI has been at that located for nearly a century I believe? Old school! Cool history here! I wonder what happened with the company?

This was located on the corner of West Bellfort and Chimney Rock, with an address of 5312 West Bellfort Blvd. Anyone have any memories of this place? How did it compare to, let's say, Spec's Liquors? How was the craft beer scene back in the late 1980s? I can imagine it was probably mainly Busch, Budweiser, or Coors. Although, Saint Arnold's Brewery was around! Pretty cool find!! I was reading the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated September 19, 1956 and came across an article about a proposed/forthcoming Southwestern Bell Telephone Company building located on South Rice Avenue near South Willow Drive. Not exactly sure where this is located. South Rice is in Bellaire/Uptown but South Willow is in Westbury. Article mentions down S. Post Oak so maybe it is near Gasmer/South Willow? I'm not sure where "Parkview" is located. Must have been a residential subdivision in Westbury? New Telephone Building Going Up In Area Southwestern Bell Telephone Company has awarded the general contract for the construction of the new Parkview Dial Telephone Building to the W.S. Bellows Construction Company of Houston. Henry H. Mudd, division manager for the telephone company, side the total cost of the Parkview project will be in excess of $2 million. The new dial system will serve about 4,300 customers initially in the fast-growing area South of Bellaire in the South Post Oak Road area. The one-story and basement building will be constructed on property located on South Rice Avenue just south of South Willow Drive in the old Willow Creek Estate addition, the division manager said. “We are happy to announce the work will begins on the Parkview building which will be the biggest single telephone project here in the past few years,” Mudd said. “On completion the new dial system will make possible thousands of new customers in this rapidly expanding section of Houston.” “Construction of the building is expected to be completed by the middle of 1957, and the new dial system will be but into service in the spring of 1958,” Mudd said. “We’ll have groundbreaking ceremonies to mark the start of construction of the modern Parkview dial building,” the division manager said. Does anyone recall this residential? community located on South Main Street near Hillcroft Avenue? The subdivision was built in the 1950s. When typing in South Main Gardens into Google in present day, you get a residential neighborhood in Missouri City, TX. The present day neighborhood is located off Sam Houston Tollway. I believe that is a whole different development. Does anyone recall what school Helen Eisentower was speaking of? Maybe Westbury High School? Westbury is a few miles away from Hillcroft & South Main. I just learned about this massive apartment complex at Hillcroft Street at South Main Street. Across from Meyer's Speedway! The apartment complex has since changed hands, multiple times, and is now called Heights at Post Oak. Hillcroft Square was originally developed by Wallace E. Johnson Enterprises, Inc. and was built in between 1969 to 1973. Here's an advertisement from the 1970s for Hillcroft Square.

Does anyone ever take their car here for service or a car wash? Looking on Google Maps, there is a car repair shop at the current location. I was reading the newspaper The Bellaire & Southwestern Texan dated December 11, 1968 and came across a business advertisement for The Egg House located at 11216 South Post Oak Road. What's the story with this company? It would be hard to believe, in 2023, there would be a retail store that only sold eggs. Did the sell dairy as well? Milk, cheese, or yogurt? Looks like the eggs came from Lindsey Farms. The farm, and retail headquarters was located at 11216 S. Post Oak. I know they had a smaller retail store down the block at Willowbend and South Post Oak. I believe they had a total of 7 or 8 locations across the city. I would love to hear more about this company. Information about the farms and the Lindsey family. I was looking at old aerial photography and noticed a gun range formation near the intersection of South Post Oak Road and South Main Street. Closer towards Gasmer and S. Post Oak I guess. The gun club was located across the street from a supposed race track. I assume these two places were operated as a singe sports club. Anyone know the name of either the gun club or race track? 1944: 1953 includes an oval race track on the opposite side of S. Post Oak.

I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated in 1967 that featured an advertisement for the restaurant Topper's Steakhouse located at 8600 Hillcroft Street. Does anyone recall this place? Does the Meyerland Martial Arts Center that stands here occupies the same building at the former restaurant? Hard to tell. The new Topper's Steak House is now open for business at 8600 Hillcroft. There's a brand new CVS at 4930 West Bellfort Avenue!! Wasn't there a church here? What ever happened with the Salem Lutheran Church? Did the COVID-19 pandemic take them out? Was there a small theater group called The Company OnStage located here? I believe the original The Company OnStage was located in Westbury Square. This may have been there 2nd location? Where are they now? Any pictures of the demolishing of the former church?

Does anyone know if this restaurant was from the same owners of Chancellors Family Center? They have to be! The Chancellors sports club is located at 6535 Dumfries Drive. Was there a restaurant located inside the club? Maybe the decades do not match up? This might have been the family's first business! When did Chancellors Family Center open?

Does anyone remember the old Westbury post office that was located at 5505 Belrose Drive? It has since been demolished to make way for the new Dr. Shannon Walker Neighborhood Library. Who was the architect? What year was it built? I'd imagine it was built in the 1950s/1960s when Westbury was forming.

I was looking around the landscape of the of South Main coordinator in the 1950s and found a zig-zag race track (which would either be motorcycle dirt bike racing - motocross, or go-kart racing) next to the old Sam Houston Airport located on South Main Street. This race track was located at the present-day Hillcroft Street off of South Main Street. With addresses, around, 12417 Hillcroft Ave. near 13755 South Main St. The race track existed before that section of Hillcroft street was built. Anyone know about this track? Would love to know a name, or address, so I can research it further. With oval tracks, it's always a hit or miss if they are actual race tracks as they could be horse riding rings instead. With a track orientation like this, this can only be a race track of sorts? It's next to the airport, but I doubt planes would make all those loopy zig-zag turns. What else could it be?
