Harry James also played at the Paladium Club on South Main @ OST in about 1954. It was owned by local musician, Johnny Martinez. Everybody played there, even Elvis what's-his-name. It could seat 2,000 people.

I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated December 21, 1944. This newspaper add was for a dance studio called Emmamae Horn Dance Studio located at 6620 1/2 South Main St. Does anybody know about this place? How does it differ from the End O Main ball room located down the block at 9810 South Main?

I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated November 2, 1944. Looks like Mott's Store was a department store, or a general store for home goods. Anyone know the history to this company?

Noticed a chiller replacement and remodel permit. We don't have a thread for this prime space in the TMC so I thought I'd create a topic.

I noticed about two weeks ago that a crane had appeared behind the Texas Orthopedic Hospital in the Texas Medical Center at Greenbriar and S. Main. This past week, they began to add some steel beams to the top of the existing 3 story building - building some steel framework about 2 stories tall. Driving by today, I snapped a few pics. Doing a quick Google search, I managed to find a small bit of info, including some interior and an exterior renderings. http://www.behance.net/gallery/13794267/Texas-Orthopedic-Hospital Sounds like they are doing a 2 story vertical expansion onto their existing building. I really couldn't find any other details besides that. Anyone know any additional details?

I've just taken an interest in Rice University. Has there ever been any year(s) that it won any championship? The only pro football player who comes to my mind who attended Rice was Tommy Kramer. When I attended the University of Arkansas from 1984-86, I remember that Rice University was in the same conference.

In the early 60's my mom and dad would load up by brother and I and drive thru downtown to their favorite place to eat shrimp. It was a "drive-in" restaurant and I remember it had huge wooden indians sitting cross legged on the roof. My mom told me many years ago that at first they would pack by brother and I PB&J sandwiches to eat while they had "Fried Shrimp". Money was tight! Then it got to where my brother and I wanted hamburgers and would be able to talk my mom out of 1 shrimp for each of us. When it got to when we both wanted shrimp, that was the time we stop going there. Anyone know the name of this place?
