I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated December 21, 1944. This newspaper add was for a dance studio called Emmamae Horn Dance Studio located at 6620 1/2 South Main St. Does anybody know about this place? How does it differ from the End O Main ball room located down the block at 9810 South Main?

I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated November 2, 1944. Looks like Mott's Store was a department store, or a general store for home goods. Anyone know the history to this company?

Rest-Up Inn Motel At 10015 South Main St. Noticed this old motel on S. Main for sale. The site is 1.98-acres. Would make for a good multifamily or medical office development. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/10015-S-Main-St-Houston-TX/25029789/ Photo taken by me today, June 16, 2023.

I noticed about two weeks ago that a crane had appeared behind the Texas Orthopedic Hospital in the Texas Medical Center at Greenbriar and S. Main. This past week, they began to add some steel beams to the top of the existing 3 story building - building some steel framework about 2 stories tall. Driving by today, I snapped a few pics. Doing a quick Google search, I managed to find a small bit of info, including some interior and an exterior renderings. http://www.behance.net/gallery/13794267/Texas-Orthopedic-Hospital Sounds like they are doing a 2 story vertical expansion onto their existing building. I really couldn't find any other details besides that. Anyone know any additional details?

Growing up in the Willow Bend area in the 1950s, we kids would expect to hear a noontime whistle from one of the industrial businesses off South Main. I never knew which business it was. I'm pretty sure it was not the Southern Pacific Railroad. Anyway, it was a signal to "warm up" our televisions for lunch-time cartoons.

It changed names a few times. I believe it was Dos Gringos at one time. I went there fairly often in college -- it was pretty good and not too expensive. Lee's Den, I believe.

South Main Windsor Village: Proposed Condominiums On South Main St.
Guest posted a topic in Texas Medical Center
A Realtor told me this today, which doesn't mean anything, but I thought I'd run it by the gang. She says that the pastor of Windsor Village church and President Bush are planning on tearing down some motels somewhere on S. Main and are going to "build a bunch of condos". It just seems odd that Bush would be involved in real estate development. I found this old HAIF topic and am wondering if she's possibly hearing someone's confused version of this project. Anyone know?
