I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated November 2, 1944. Looks like Mott's Store was a department store, or a general store for home goods. Anyone know the history to this company?

Noticed a chiller replacement and remodel permit. We don't have a thread for this prime space in the TMC so I thought I'd create a topic.

Rest-Up Inn Motel At 10015 South Main St. Noticed this old motel on S. Main for sale. The site is 1.98-acres. Would make for a good multifamily or medical office development. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/10015-S-Main-St-Houston-TX/25029789/ Photo taken by me today, June 16, 2023.

I noticed about two weeks ago that a crane had appeared behind the Texas Orthopedic Hospital in the Texas Medical Center at Greenbriar and S. Main. This past week, they began to add some steel beams to the top of the existing 3 story building - building some steel framework about 2 stories tall. Driving by today, I snapped a few pics. Doing a quick Google search, I managed to find a small bit of info, including some interior and an exterior renderings. http://www.behance.net/gallery/13794267/Texas-Orthopedic-Hospital Sounds like they are doing a 2 story vertical expansion onto their existing building. I really couldn't find any other details besides that. Anyone know any additional details?

Fresh on Loopnet. Listing created yesterday. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/9430-Main-St-Houston-TX/20912191/ The property flyer misidentifies Alta Med Main. Thought about sending them an email giving them a heads up.

This is branded as a Diamond Inn. Motel is now open. Might be related to the Tweety's Diamond Inn down the street?

Noticed this healthcare center during my run a few days ago. Was this place ever filled with activity back in the day? Located 5 miles from the TMC. The current building was built in 1983.

From Belt International Realty Company. Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/10999-S-Main-St-Houston-TX/3881099/ Adjacent to the east of this property the University of Texas has just recently acquired over 400 acres for their Houston Campus. Adjacent to the south there are newer residential developments catering to the Medical Center market. City Utilities. 895' on S Main, 681 on Old Main ROW running right behind the property, at the other side of which is the property that was acquired by the University of Texas. Will consider dividing the property. This 6.86 acres property is located on booming South Main near Willowbend, adjacent to the new UT Campus and new residential developments. It is in a gateway location to the Medical Center, Reliant Stadium and Rice University. It offers also great connections to Loop 610, Beltway 8 and the Ft Bend Toll way. Willowbend and Buffalo Speedway have recently been extended.

What's the story about The Playhouse Theatre at 4816 Main Street? It is a Houston Landmark Designation. According to the city, it was built in 1950 and was the first permanent structure in the United States built specifically for professional “theatre-in-the-round.” Did this supersede the Playhouse Theatre in the Texas Medical Center on South Main near the Houston Medical Towers designed by SOM? The Playhouse Theater was on South Main St. at Southgate Blvd. I believe the Playhouse Theatre at 4816 Main Street is now a museum? Who recalls the history?

"Louisiana-based Origin Bank (Nasdaq: OBNK) is relocating one of its nine Houston branches to a site near Hermann Park. The bank is moving its Museum District banking center from the current location at 5115 South Main St. to a site at 1511 Binz St., just a few blocks away from Hermann Park..." “We have recently received regulatory approval to relocate our Museum Banking Center to 1511 Binz Street at the corner of La Branch and Binz in the first quarter of 2019," "In 2016, Excelsior Land Co. Inc., a Houston-based company that is linked to eye surgeon Paul Michael Mann, submitted a plat record to the city of Houston for a mixed-use project with a high-rise component. The 2.4-acre plat included the Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center’s main office at 5115 South Main St. However, it is unclear if the bank's site relocation is related to the proposed mixed-use project."

Announced in the Houston Business Journal Today: http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2014/11/texas-childrens-hospital-to-expand-tower-in-the.html This should nicely add to the Medical Center skyline. I hope they keep with the practice of having lighting features as many of the taller structures in the TMC do.
