  1. Howard Hughes bags $14M in medical office sale to Houston Methodist February 28, 2024 https://therealdeal.com/texas/houston/2024/02/28/howard-hughes-sells-medical-office-to-houston-methodist-for-14m/ Howard Hughes Holdings offloaded Creekside Park’s first medical office, which it delivered last year. According to The Woodlands-based developer’s quarterly SEC report, it sold the Creekside Park Medical Plaza, at 26424 Strake Drive, for $14 million. Houston Methodist hospital system bought the two-story, 32,600-square-foot Class A medical office this month, property records show. Houston Methodist plans to open a multi-specialty clinic akin to its Comprehensive Care Center in Pearland.
  2. So its official, the Houston Area will be getting it's first Ritz-Carlton Residences. It's going to be in The Woodlands off Lake Woodlands. I would have preferred it to be in Houston, but maybe this will catalyze a possible future Ritz Carlton hotel for Houston. Either way, great news! https://communityimpact.com/houston/the-woodlands/development/2023/10/12/the-ritz-carlton-residences-announced-for-lake-woodlands-area/
  3. New 208 acre park planned for the Creekside Park neighborhood. It may eventually connect to the Spring Creek Greenway https://www.houstonchronicle.com/neighborhood/woodlands/article/woodlands-south-gosling-park-phase-i-18395268.php "The park will also be the largest Woodlands park completed in Harris County once completed, with opportunity for passive and active recreation. The county requires Phase I to include initial engineering, wetland and flood plain analysis, cultural surveys and archaeological surveys, analyzing endangered species and measuring water currents in the area."

  5. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/howard-hughes-holding-parent-company-new-houston-18204344.php "Howard Hughes Corp., the real estate development firm behind Bridgeland and The Woodlands, announced it is forming a new parent company that could help it fund future investment opportunities. The company, which is based in The Woodlands, said it plans to create the Howard Hughes Holding Corp., a new parent company that will take its place on the New York Stock Exchange. The ticker symbol, HHC, will remain the same. "
  6. Thought there may have been a thread for this but I guess one wasn't created before. Around this time in 2021 there was a mention that three locations would be opening in the area - in Humble, Conroe & The Woodlands by the following year. https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/06-16-21-bojangles-fried-chicken-fast-food-restaurant-houston-locations-humble-conroe-the-woodlands/ Not sure what happened to those three locations, but the twitter account for the Bojangles Houston group mentions a location opening on August 15th. A tweet indicates it will be the location in "Richmond" at 19310 W. Belfort - Just west of the intersection of the Grand Parkway and Harlem Road. This piece from the Dallas Morning News on the store that opened in Euless indicates at least 10 more are coming to the Houston area, per the company's CEO https://www.dallasnews.com/food/restaurant-news/2023/06/27/as-bojangles-fried-chicken-opens-in-texas-ceo-says-20-stores-are-in-d-fws-future/ "We just signed a franchisee in Houston for a 10-store commitment. But we also have a company location in Houston. So we’ll have a company base in Dallas [with the four D-FW restaurants already announced] and a company base in Houston."
  7. https://communityimpact.com/houston/the-woodlands/development/2023/05/02/proposed-spring-creek-dam-costs-reduced-to-179m/ "In the revised calculations, the height of the Birch Creek dam will reduced by 10 feet, the spillway will be reduced by 5 feet, and the inundation area will be reduced by almost 300 acres from original estimates. Walnut Creek's height will be reduced by 12 feet, the spillway by 6 feet, and the inundation area by 500 acres, he said. These changes will raise the BCR for Birch Creek from 0.45 to 2.03 and Walnut Creek from 0.29 to 1.88, according to Barrett. "By reducing the size of the dams, we saved costs there," Barrett said. "We also reduced the land we inundated, which means less land that we need to acquire." Barrett said the more difficult problem to solve will include working with developers currently building on dam sites. A proposed residential development is slated to build on 300 acres within the inundation area on Birch Creek. At Walnut Creek, a solar farm has already begun construction on 100 acres of panels in the inundation area."

As the LPGA was looking to take the Chevron Championship to the next level, the association took a lot of suggestions into consideration, including moving the tournament to a new location, said Ricki Lasky, LPGA chief tour business and operations officer. Once the LPGA and Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) looked at potential new venues, Lasky said Houston felt like home for the tournament.

  14. One of the things I've been kind of curious about is the history of The Woodlands, Texas, which doesn't seem to be very well-documented since it was only built in the 1970s. Some tidbits I've gleaned include the Wharf, which was actually built (something I doubted initially) and contained an ice rink and boutique shops. It was eventually renovated into a conference/resort center, but I have seen no pictures of the inside as it was. An article I read on George Mitchell mentioned how The Woodlands didn't have a lot of grocery stores (if any) at first, but the Chron refers to (through article searches) that an upscale local grocery chain called Jamail's sold out two stores to Randalls in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Apparently the shopping center at Sawdust and Interstate 45 had both a Wal-Mart and a Kmart in there at some point (the Kmart being one of the extra-small late 1970s prototypes). Is there a place where I could find out more of the history of these types of things?
  15. This would pretty sweet if built, and it's design is different from the usual Woodlands building. Designed by Pickard Chilton http://www.bizjourna...allery&img_no=1 http://www.bizjourna...-woodlands.html
  16. swamplot reports: Anadarko Petroleum announced to its employees last week that the company is ready to begin constructing a second office tower just west of its existing headquarters building in The Woodlands Town Center, a source tells Swamplot. The new building will fit on the corner of Lake Robbins Dr. and Woodloch Forest Dr., just south of The Woodlands Mall, and like the current tower will be visible from miles south on I-45. At the announced 31 stories, the new structure would be one floor "shorter taller." http://swamplot.com/...rst/2012-01-17/ works for me!
