  1. I saw it boarded up so I asked the lady hanging the signs if they were closing. She said no, someone threw rocks thru the windows and they have to order the replacements.
  2. I find this proposed plat intriguing. It 38.178 acres and Acme Brick has a sales offices here. I could see it being either single family homes, multifamily or townhomes using Acme Bricks. It was presented once before the Planning Commission but can't remember if it was withdrawn by the developer.
  3. Anyone know whats going on with Galaxy? The site has been substantially cleaned up and was as of last night repainted completely (graffiti-ish logos gone). It's not completely abandoned but a large majority of stuff has been removed from the site (all Uhauls, old cars etc) and it looks like the next step is to fence it in temporarily. This sits right next to Birds Barbershop and Steel City Pops.
  4. This thread was originally created April 6, 2016. I'm reposting / reupping this because this post and other content from me are no longer available on the forum due to a mod removing my account and its content in "error" (supposedly). An archive link of the thread before its deletion is coming soon. Mods, please don't move this to the Heights forum where all of my Washington Corridor posts were moved to. Mods, also don't sneak and move this thread and all the others for Washington Corridor, Oak Forest, Garden Oaks, and Independence Heights to the Heights forum once all the previous content is reposted as y'all have done and continue to do. This is NOT in the Heights and it's not part of the Greater Heights area in any way. This is in the Washington Corridor area, an area that as suggested and advocated for previously needs its own forum because there is lots of development happening here, much spurred by the Sawyer Yards and Buffalo Heights developments. That in itself usually merits the creation for a new neighborhood forum. Until then, posts for those neighborhoods should remain in the forum for "Other Neighbohoods" has is done with other threads that don't have a dedicated neighborhood or area of town forum.Thanks. 4105 Washington Avenue in Houston.

  6. This property has been cleared. Entire block on corner or Robbie and Airline. Anyone know the plans? https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/1915-Airline-Dr-Houston-TX/14608593/
  7. https://www.trulia.com/p/tx/houston/3505-n-main-st-houston-tx-77009--2109748400 Recently came on the market. With this being so close to the new Holiday Inn hotel and White Oak Music Hall, seems like quite a bit of potential here.
  8. https://images2.loopnet.com/d2/44-lIq3zELy5HRd_Kex4e1MN6FQCa7HJyFlP65OIOrs/document.pdf Braun is on the move again. Lots of retail sq ft coming to N. Shep.
  9. Based on @Paco Jones hint, this will be going up. Developer - https://livelmc.com/expertise/development
  10. Proposed new plat. The plat is owned by WGS Retail Investments,Llc. I went by here last weekend and all the shops on 26th were closed and vacant and looked like prime property for redevelopment.
  11. Silver Star Properties, a Houston real estate investment trust, is in the process of selling the 106,000-square-foot Garden Oaks Shopping Center at Shepherd and Garden Oaks Boulevard that also is home to Planet Fitness and Dollar Tree, a JLL spokesperson said. A closing date on the property, which hit the market in April 2023, hasn't been established. Built in 1956, the shopping center is 96% occupied, according to JLL’s website, with Aldi signed for about another 16 years. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/aldi-retail-center-garden-oaks-sells-houston-18626365.php
  12. http://www.theleadernews.com/?p=9283 Same guys who are doing Harolds. But, they are not going to try to save any part of the church. I just hope the do not put in a strip center type development and make the new development an extension of 19th st shops.

The property at 5701 Washington Avenue along the Washington Corridor in Rice Military, last occupied by Wabash Feed & Garden Store has been scooped up according to a recent report. The antique and garden store is relocating to 4537 North Shepherd Drive (4537 N Shepherd Dr). In the past, it's housed Edward's Plumbing Company and Crestwood Cleaners.
  14. My Table has this to say: "We hear that Sonoma Retail Wine Bar and Restaurant will be opening a second location in The Heights at 801 Studewood. The new location will have a casual neighborhood vibe, much like Sonoma’s Richmond location. Owners Farrah Fatouretchi and Dr. Kevin Lisman have some unique design features planned for the new project and report that it will have a larger kitchen and an increased focus on food. The planned opening is April 2012." I've been there once and it was OK, but I have to admit that 13 Celsius has set the standard really high for wine bars (just as Catalina has for coffee). Still, i have no complaints about a local wine bar if they use proper stemware (see, i am spoiled).

  17. There is going to be a Trash Bash to clean up Little Thicket Park on Saturday March 29, 2008. It is located just west of Ella at the end of W 23rd St. I went hiking around the park this past weekend and it has a ton of potential, but has a lot of trash scattered throughout it right now. With a little cleanup, the park could be a really great natural area to go hike around, etc. It is also an official nature sanctuary for migratory birds (if that is something you are into). I've seen plans for the park to have a complete "hike & bike" overhaul, but don't know if that is still in the works or not. The cleanup effort has the support of the Shady Acres Civic Club, but will need help from anyone who is willing to pitch in. More information can be found at the following links: http://www.trashbash.org/site_little_thicket.html http://www.shadyacres.org/index.php?topic=34.0
  18. Looks like it sold recently. A crew was doing a pretty thorough interior demo this morning. No idea what is going in, but would assume they are keeping the structure in place to take advantage of the setbacks (or lack thereof). https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/3400-White-Oak-Dr-Houston-TX/26494761/

Likely a new restaurant/bar? Was the former re:HAB bar. @swamplot https://twitter.com/chrisandrewsCDA/status/818506862299643906
  21. Does anyone know what is going on with the demolition of a Washington Ave. lumber and hardware store between Detering and Lester? With the completion of the demo, it looks like the entire block will be clear for new contruction. Will this be more residential (right on Washington), strip center, or mixed use?
  22. Not technically the Heights....but couldn't find another area to put this. Houston restaurant co. to open ZZ Top-themed Tex-Mex joint By Laura Gillespie – Reporter, Houston Business Journal 4 hours ago Tres Amigos Café y Cantina will replace Shepherd Park Draught House at 3402 N. Shepherd Drive April 22. Ken Bridge, CEO of Delicious Concepts Restaurant Group, which owns both concepts, is turning the draught house into a ZZ Top-themed Tex-Mex restaurant, showcasing Bridge’s extensive collection of ZZ Top memorabilia. Stewart Skloss, founder of Pura Vida Tequila, as well as ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons, both helped come up with the idea for the restaurant, but they have no ownership in it. Tres Amigos will serve classic Tex-Mex, with combo plates, tacos, burritos, weekend tamales, queso and more. On the drinks side, it will have margaritas with Pura Vida tequila and Mexican beer. The 1,500-square-foot space will be redecorated to show off Bridge’s ZZ Top memorabilia from floor to ceiling, but otherwise will be relatively unchanged. The inside seats 40 to 45, with another handful of tables on the patio. The current concept features punk, pop and rock memorabilia pieces from Bridge's collection. Bridge, who just announced the transition of his concept Ritual into Mapojeong Galbijib, a Korean barbecue restaurant, said he likes to change up concepts as he comes up with new, progressive directions. “We’re all ready for a new frontier; I think we’re all ready for a change. For us as a company, and for me personally, I’m ready to change things up and push forward,” Bridge said. “I’ve always wanted to do Korean barbecue, people who know me know that.” Bridge says he's ZZ Top’s No. 1 fan. He began collecting memorabilia for the bearded Houston-born rock band when he was a child; his first piece was a poster he won at a carnival game while living in Arizona. “I call it collecting, my wife calls it hoarding,” Bridge said. “I just became obsessed, not just with ZZ Top.” In honor of Skloss, Gibbons and Bridge’s friendship, the company says, 75% of restaurant proceeds will go to the St. Jude Foundation, with which Gibbons has worked closely over the years. “(My wife) Christina and I are absolutely thrilled to be supporting such an amazing organization and to continue to give back to those in our company who have contributed so much to our success over the years,” Bridge said in a statement. by HBJ.
