Found the 2nd build of Travis Elementary School. The photograph was taken in 1909, so I can imagine it was built around the same time frame/decade. I wonder the architect? Didn't Harry D. Payne do a lot of work for HISD around the same time? Also Jones & Tabor. I do wonder if the school was located at the same location as the current Travis Elementary School. The address to the current school is 3311 Beauchamp Street. I see there is additional park space at the site, called Travis Spark Park. I would assume the land was donated by the Travis estate, so it must be the same location?

I saw it boarded up so I asked the lady hanging the signs if they were closing. She said no, someone threw rocks thru the windows and they have to order the replacements.

Silver Star Properties, a Houston real estate investment trust, is in the process of selling the 106,000-square-foot Garden Oaks Shopping Center at Shepherd and Garden Oaks Boulevard that also is home to Planet Fitness and Dollar Tree, a JLL spokesperson said. A closing date on the property, which hit the market in April 2023, hasn't been established. Built in 1956, the shopping center is 96% occupied, according to JLL’s website, with Aldi signed for about another 16 years. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/aldi-retail-center-garden-oaks-sells-houston-18626365.php

I find this proposed plat intriguing. It 38.178 acres and Acme Brick has a sales offices here. I could see it being either single family homes, multifamily or townhomes using Acme Bricks. It was presented once before the Planning Commission but can't remember if it was withdrawn by the developer.

Strudel Auto Lease located at 700 W 11th St has a for lease sign. It may have been up for some time however Google street view from January 2023 shows the Great Down Payments! sign that had been in that spot for several years. The lot looks mostly cleared out. HCAD not showing a change in ownership since 2005.

I see a crane I have to stop and ask questions. Talked with one of the crew members about what they were building. He said it will be a battery substation that will supplement the other substation during power outages and stabilize it at other times.

Posted October 18, 2021 (edited) Baso will be moving in to the building at 629 W. 19th St. Building is owned by Braun Enterprises. https://www.braunenterprises.com/629-w-19th https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/08-30-21-baso-new-restaurant-basque-spanish-the-heights-jacque-varon-fernando-recio-braun-enterprises/#slide=0 https://www.instagram.com/basohtx/?hl=en This was originally posted in the maliciously renamed thread f/k/a Lack of Restaurant Diversity in the Heights, but I couldn't quote it and post in that thread for some reason. This restaurant is finally getting close to opening. The build out is almost complete and they have started hiring.
