The MD Anderson Percy And Ruth Leggett Jones Research Building is scheduled to be demolished soon. Thought I would create a legacy thread, to remember the old building once it's been demolished. Today I took a photo of the cool, retro looking, building. I wonder the architect? Mackie and Kamrath Architects?

This week, I found a historical picture of the first building on the campus! You can see the dirt/gravel around the building. Forward 80 years, and the campus has a plethora of buildings. Really amazing the expansion that has occurred here. The organization started in 1945 by the Sisters of St. Dominic of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart.

Drove past a very unique, small, town home complex located at 7909 Knight Road in the Texas Medical Center. Photos I took today.

This residential house is pretty interesting. It's in the middle of a large 100-acre (ish) MD Anderson campus called MD Anderson East Campus. This is one instance where the home owners refuse to sell to the company. There's a thread on HAIF somewhere dedicated the "hold outs." Pictures I took today. All of MD Anderson's vacant land a long Almeda Road.

Noticed an older building on Bertner today. The building and parking lot was fenced with a tan screen. Is there something happening here? If you zoom in, it looks like the building has broken windows. Sits behind their many campus at 6720 Bertner.

I didn't know where to post my random thought about the Texas Medical Center. Thought I'd create a thread dedicated to random things related to the TMC. This afternoon, I thought to myself how many vacant parcels are there left in the TMC? What exactly is taking developers so long to buy and build on these high-profile lots? - 7200 Main - 7100 Fannin - 1500 Old Spanish Trail Does Hines or Hanover have a luxury residential tower in the TMC? Hanover TMC sounds so good! 7200 Main: 7100 Fannin: 1500 Old Spanish Trail, includes the parking garage:

Another BioTech campus just outside TMC proper is on El Rio street developed by Prologis. Transwestern has 3 separate property listings for the campus. The addresses are: Prologis Plaza del Oro 1 is located at 1000 South Loop West. Prologis Plaza del Oro 2 is located at 8272 El Rio Street. Prologis Plaza del Oro 3 is located at 8282 El Rio Street. https://transwestern.com/property/plaza-del-oro https://transwestern.com/property/plaza-del-oro-3 https://transwestern.com/property/plaza-del-oro-00 I stopped by this weekend to check the neighborhood out. I took pictures of the street signage.

Watched an online interview with Tushar Gupta & Sid Sanders regarding the Houston Methodist Walter Tower design. In the presentation Sid mentioned the life span of their buildings and future planning. In the future, Houston Methodist would like to demolish their old, 1950's hospital referred to as Main Building. Once Phase III of the North Campus is complete, this will be on the horizon. Planned to be a a Research Hospital, to pair with their other Research Institute. Shown in purple on the right side.

I was recently introduced to the Ronald McDonald House so I picked this forum to post this thread knowing the compassion of many of our memebers-even though it may be more appropriate in "off topic"-or perhaps elswhere on the internet. Any of you guys who think you know as a "flame throwing, anti-corporate liberal" I sometimes come off looking like, I have to tell you, this is where liberals and conservatives fall off the map. I have recently had the honor to visit some of these kids and if anyone is more deserving in our community of our support, it's these little guys. I would just urge you to look into what this place provides for these kids and their families and consider throwing a buck or two [or an hour or two] their way to make their lives a little easier for however long or short a time they may have left. https://www.ronaldmcdonaldhousehouston.org/AboutTheHouse.htm

Another unusual Transwestern listing. Transwestern is listing this as a 4-story office at 2151-2157 Holcombe Blvd. I couldn't locate that building on Google maps. I did notice 2151 Holcombe Blvd is the Texas Medical Center Parking Garage 8. https://transwestern.com/property/2151-2157-holcombe-blvd https://www.tmc.edu/parking/visitor-parking/ Wyatt C. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any plans to renovate/rebuild the Kroger at Cambridge/OST? I live right down the street from it and find it really convenient, but really outdated and the layout a bit cramped. I'm hoping something similar to the Montrose (near Westheimer) renovation could happen at this location. An expanded "prepared meals" section and dairy section would be really nice. Also, a bigger entrance would be good too...My far-fetched wish is that they would buy some of the land next to them and build a brand new store like the Studemont location, and convert the existing into more parking and a Kroger gas station...I went to the Kirby store the other day and it looks like they could handle a larger store in the area.

Texas Hearing Institute At 3100 Shenandoah St.
Highrise Tower posted a topic in Texas Medical Center
A new building planned for the Texas Medical Center will unite The Center for Hearing and Speech and Texas Children’s Hospital under one roof for more robust services to thousands more children with hearing loss. The center’s new 42,000-square-foot facility, slated to break ground this year and open in 2020 near State Highway 288 and South MacGregor Way, is expected to serve twice as many patients annually than the current campus on West Dallas. “A lot of our kids have other issues, so they end up going to Texas Children’s to get those issues addressed. It would be a lot easier on the families if we could locate closer or in the Texas Medical Center,” said Alan L. Smith, The Center for Hearing and Speech’s board chairman. Already, the center’s $22.5 million capital campaign has raised $7.5 million. Smith said the nonprofit plans to split the proceeds of the building sale with its co-occupant, The Harris Center. After vacating the structure this summer and factoring the cost of a temporary location, leaders estimate adding another $10 million to the fund. “By June, we will have at least $17.5 million, so we’ll have $5 million or less to go,” he said. Texas Children’s Hospital is a longtime member institution of the Texas Medical Center. The Center for Hearing and Speech joined the TMC in 2017. https://www.tmc.edu/news/2019/02/center-for-hearing-and-speech-and-texas-childrens-to-collaborate-on-pediatric-hearing-services-hub/ Map. Also not sure if the old building at 3636 W Dallas is apart of Hanover's Mixed Use project.- 57 replies

This week I discovered, what looks to be a Maurice Sullivan sketch of a proposed Houston Tuberculosis Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. This was in the year 1948 or 1949. Isn't that the Baylor College of Medicine Cullen building? I also see a small building in front of the larger building. Would the smaller building the proposed TB hospital? Or maybe that isn't the BCM Cullen Building. Very cool find.
