  1. https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/sports/2023/06/09/454105/houston-sports-festival-expo-pokatok-2024/ "Pokatok will be held next April 4-7 at the George R. Brown Convention Center and nearby Discovery Green, among other locations, according to an announcement this week by Gow Companies. Its vision is to create a world's fair in Houston that centers around sports, with activities such as live competitions in sports and electronic sports, watch parties, athlete meet-and-greets, panel discussions and vendor exhibitions, said company co-founder and CEO Lawson Gow."
  2. I finally figured out the third Plaza del Oro complex today. RNR had a recent real estate transaction regarding the property. Thanks RNR! HOUSTON — John Hornbuckle of Cypressbrook Company represented the tenant, Nuo Therapeutics, Inc., in the leasing of 4,865 SF at 8285 El Rio Plaza in the Plaza del Oro Research Park. Lane Travis with CBRE represented the landlord, El Rio, LLC. https://realtynewsreport.com/rnr-real-estate-briefs-hou-aus-dal-more-5/ CBRE has 3 separate property listings for the campus. The addresses are: Building 1 is located at 900 South Loop West Building 2 is located at 8275 El Rio St. Building 3 is located at 8285 El Rio St. https://www.cbre.com/offices/corporate/houston/houston-property-search/details/US-SMPL-47242/plaza-del-oro-900-s-loop-w-900-south-loop-west-houston-tx-77054?view=isLetting%2CisSale https://www.cbre.com/offices/corporate/houston/houston-property-search/details/US-SMPL-47244/plaza-del-oro-8275-el-rio-8275-el-rio-street-houston-tx-77054?view=isLetting%2CisSale https://www.cbre.com/offices/corporate/houston/houston-property-search/details/US-SMPL-47246/plaza-del-oro-8285-el-rio-8285-el-rio-street-houston-tx-77054?view=isLetting%2CisSale I stopped by all three Plaza del Oro complexes last weekend. I would list them as: MD Anderson BioHouston complex: 8000 - 8080 El Rio St. Transwestern Prologis complex: 1000 South Loop West, 8272 El Rio St. and 8282 El Rio St. CBRE Research Park complex: 900 South Loop West, 8275 El Rio St. and 8285 El Rio St. Here's some street signage for the CBRE PDO complex.
  3. Another BioTech campus just outside TMC proper is on El Rio street developed by Prologis. Transwestern has 3 separate property listings for the campus. The addresses are: Prologis Plaza del Oro 1 is located at 1000 South Loop West. Prologis Plaza del Oro 2 is located at 8272 El Rio Street. Prologis Plaza del Oro 3 is located at 8282 El Rio Street. https://transwestern.com/property/plaza-del-oro https://transwestern.com/property/plaza-del-oro-3 https://transwestern.com/property/plaza-del-oro-00 I stopped by this weekend to check the neighborhood out. I took pictures of the street signage.
  4. I was looking at an MD Anderson map and noticed they own this building. I drove by and surely enough there was an Anderson no trespassing sign. This building is down the street from TMC3. I can see MDA buying an adjoining parcel and building something tall here. In due time!
  5. Main Park is a three-building office/warehouse complex located near the Texas Medical Center at 3610-3620 Willowbend Blvd & 11205 South Main St. https://www.fullertx.com/properties/main-park/
  6. Noticed this on JLL's website. This is outside of UT's 307-acres on Willowbend Blvd. The executive summary mentions it's a premium infill location. Also mentions TMC3 and Levit Green since TMC is only 3-miles away. Maybe long-term redevelopment? https://www.us.jll.com/en/investorcenter/industrial-logistics/willowbend-business-park-houston-tx-unitedstates
  7. The Board of Regents of The University of Texas System has for sale, 68.666 acres out of 717.3 acres, adjacent to Buescher State Park in Smithville Texas. The sale of additional land may be considered. The land is improved with an approximately 150,000 square foot basic life science laboratory research park, including laboratories, vivarium, office, conference and other support spaces. The property may only be used for research purposes. https://www.utsystem.edu/offices/real-estate/property/68666-acres-improved-basic-life-sciences-research-park-smithville-texas
  8. Well that second quote is much more promising than the first (which I guess came from Alexandria Chairman Joel Marcus On Emerging Cities, Megacampuses And 'Hucksters' (bisnow.com)). If their market outlook did change between summer 2021 and now, well the TMC must be doing something right.
  9. A new retail building is going up on West Bellfort. Lots of biotechnology companies around Kirby, West Bellfort, Willowbend, and Stella Link. Edit: It looks like MD Anderson occupies a few suites here! MD Anderson has recently occupied 21,220 SF and 24,875 SF at 9220 and 9230 Kirby. The architect for the interior remodels was Powers Brown Architecutre.
  10. Do we know what's happening with TAMU's old Institute of Biosciences and Technology building? When Innovation Plaza was announced, I believe this was covered. Medistar grabbed it right?

  13. Saw this article in the chron this morning - http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/columnists/sarnoff/article/As-far-as-land-goes-large-tract-near-Medical-7252410.php Does anyone know where to find the marketing materials? I checked out the Cushman & Wakefield website but couldn't locate it. It's not quite as close to TMC3 as Nancy seems to think (I think she's looking at the wrong parking lot), but still relatively close
  14. Per Carroll Robinson's website at the link below, on November 5th, HCC closed on 9.177 acres of land on N. MacGregor at 288 for the new Coleman College of Health Sciences’ Medical Science & Technology Early College Charter High School (what a long name!). http://tinyurl.com/ld5l5md That parcel has been vacant for over 20 years. I think the last thing to be there was an old nightclub, and before that, there were apartments. Old N. MacGregor Way borders the property to the south and was closed and fenced off about 3-5 years ago. It's also one of the few places where you can see Brays Bayou's original path before it was straightened for the first time in the 1920s.
  15. I was reading through Tory Gattis's blog last week (houstonstrategies.blogspot.com), and I was really intrigued with his idea for a global energy technology conference in Houston. Here are a couple of entries he posted on this: http://houstonstrategies.blogspot.com/2007...technology.html http://houstonstrategies.blogspot.com/2007...or-houston.html A couple of excerpts: ...and then a Chronicle reply: http://blogs.chron.com/houstonpolitics/200...ur_brand_1.html My initial thoughts are that this would be extremely beneficial to the city. I think this is worthy of a discussion here.
  16. For years I have been wondering if Sears will ever do something with this eyesore located in midtown. It has so much potential, I guess at one point it was actually considered a beautiful building. Sears really needs to think about bringing it back to its original form. Something needs to be done. I would prefer to preserve the building, instead of razing it . What do you all think? Article found in the Chronicle today. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/life/main/5924010.html ''It's hideous!" fumes my friend V., warming up to one of his favorite rants: the unbearable ugliness of the Sears on Main Street. "It's right there on the light-rail line! At the entrance to the Museum District! At one of the few places where Houston can look good to visitors!" V., I have to admit, has a point. Sears' tan metal siding, blotched with graffiti cover-up, gives the building's upper floors the beaten-down air of an aging ministorage unit. But even that beats the urban battle fortifications at ground level. Someone, it appears, worked hard to make the department store defensible, able to repel invading hordes of shoppers intoxicated by Vanessa Hudgens' back-to-school ads. At the Wheeler side of the building, two sets of glass double doors, blacked out and locked during business hours, present an ominous face to the street. Opaque gray film makes the official entrance's glass doors, facing Main, only a little less scary. Bricks fill almost all the former display windows; burglar bars and more of that gray film cover the plate glass that survived. Only the most intrepid seekers of Kenmore appliances would dare breach such a bulwark. What's the deal, V. wonders. Does Sears think that the urban shoppers that store serves deserve less than, say, the suburbanites at the Memorial City Mall? And for that matter, hasn't someone at Sears noticed that Midtown has gentrified around the store? Isn't there a retail audience yearning to be better served? "Don't just return," exhorts the Hudgens back-to-school ad for Sears. "Arrive." V. would like that Sears to do just that. ...
  17. 4 buildings that were originally part of the wooded HP Campus in northwest Harris County on 249 are going to be redeveloped into corporate office buildings as part of a $100M, 44.5 acre project headed up by Macfarlan Capital Partners and Buchanan Street Partners. It is being marketed as the largest block of office space available for a corporate campus in Houston. The project, to be named the Centre at Cypress Creek will include: 3 interconnected 4-story office buildings and 1 computer manufacturing facility 630,000 sq ft of space 4 Parking Garages Complete in 2008 http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/5020331.html *This may have been the portion that UH was hoping to buy before having to postpone their plans for a NW Harris County campus.
